  1. I went the SEL loaded way.. Special Ordered with X plan. I remember running the pricing with the dealer....the limited is "cheaper" or very close with all the options...I just couldn't live with the chrome (plastic) wheels.

Dealer didn't offer the limited with 18" painted swap ..luck you. I probably would have gone that way...

Limited badging means nothing to me and in a way is a negative for me...("the car make the name..not the name makes the car"...)

We have had the vehicle for almost a month now. My wife's car...she absolutely loves it..and speeks highly of it to others....

I drive it the weekend sometimes...

    Configuration:

    SEL

    AWD

    NAV

    18" painted wheels

    Dark Ink Blue/Black leather Interior

    Sync.

    Audiophile

Premium Interior Package (leather seats, dual climate, homelink, etc)

    BAMR

only bad thing about this configuration is front passenger seat does have same features as dealer side..

pictures of this car are in the gallery for those interested.

  2. I concur ...BUT...the fact still remains that, I would love for a passenger to be able to work the Navi system while on a long trip if we need gas, or something like that...(as articulated in my previous post)

To me..that is a fault that needs to be corrected...

I, personally, don't think watching a DVD while driving would be very wise either....

This is a big big negative...I agree!!! Ford Marketing missed the boat here...looks like the "legals" have taken over....

Maybe it could be considered "safer" to require the user to stop the vehicle....but then why not require the user to stop the vehicle to change the radio station or adjust the heat..come on...give us more credit.

This is a feature we have paid dearly for...my Garmin Nuvi360 doesn't have this kind of restriction...I love that device...

Ford follow Garmin....they are the maket leader in gps navigation..they allow these features during movement...and yes, you have to acknowledge the same BS at start up that you agree to the "safety concerns"

I remember using the Hertz "never Lost" system (total seat time 2+ weeks) ...they don't do this locking out of features...they just require you to agree to the risks involved..at "startup"..just like the Ford & Garmin Nuvi360 units have.

Ford please provide us a service update to give us back the features we paid for.

Who do I write to at Ford to resolve this?

We are the customers here...don't we have some say in what we want ....

So far this is the only negative I see in our 2008 Edge...

  3. email I rec'd from VZ today, I removed the Vz employees name....(finally got a straight answer)

  4. Ours can be quite poor in the city. We have catback exhaust and the desire to lean on the gas harder is there. It is quite peppy and fun to drive hard. Its like a go cart. 14mpg in LA traffic is common. freeway is quite good though 24-26mpg.

Over Thanksgiving, we traveled about 100 miles into a brisk headwind that kept us in 5th gear. It only shifted to 6th a couple of times. Averaged only 17mpg for that stretch

Had ours for 2 weeks now...Mileage is increasing...last tank of gas (regular nothing special) 21-22 80-90% highway(some flat , but mostly hilly (upsate NY) driving)...10-30F degree outside temperature. This is an AWD SEL loaded with 18's. Based on this latest mileage....feeling that we should avg. 24+ during warmer weather. No special driving style to get improved mileage...at times speed spiked up to 85mph on the highway...most of the time on the interstate 72ish.....just at the threshhold to keep the Police content.

  5. Mine does the same...Not sure what the deal is with that! It cannot find certain streets around here...

Nav signal is great on ours!!!Ford Nav is dead on ...no loss of signal...locks in quick (vehicle 2 weeks old now)

    (upstate new york)

But as far as the user interface....I have a Garmin Nuvi360 that I compare this to...

    + & - on both units...

the big - on the Ford Nav is: Not sure why some of the Nav commands are disabled during motion???? how did they pick the commands to disable

POIs? + others (only get access to local POIs when in route...) ????? Maybe it's an operator thing...LOL

  6. *chuckles* Yes, as You know, I am slammed with work today...as usual

But no, I actually have not called them....I just know they put a lock down on their phones bluetooth capabilities....that is just like, I cannot send songs via bluetooth to other bluetooth phones because of Verizon...BUT...from what I have been reading...Verizon is going to be working with Googles new "Android" system, and they will be letting us do a lot more with out bluetooth..(and a lot more period). I hope so, because I really like a lot of things about Verizon....their only fault from what I can tell,is the blocking of some bluetooth functions...

Called verizonwireless tech support this evening...they have NO IDEA...reading from a script card..LOL

They told me that any phone should work...typical salesman approach..I'm an engineer..I know better.

They suggested I try phonescoop.com...didn't see anything there...guess I will just take a chance or patiently hold off a bit...

Oh, by the way Ford needs to get their "syncmyride" site fully functional so that other owners can share tricks, problem solutions, list products that don't play well with Sync. I am more that willing to be part of any testing Ford would like me to do..just ask guys...

My specific need is to have full text messaging functional.....I assume If this works, so will the rest of the basic phone interface.

    Good dialog...thanks

  7. Per DORA sent to me by my local dealer last Wednesday: only partial Vin # assisgned

Update from Monday morning discussion with local dealer:

As of 11/9 update from FORD:

    unscheduled

No material issues based on vehicle with options

Just thought to give you an update.

Per Tracking done @ Blue Oval Forum...which was great experience I might add!!! details were dead on....

So the Edge arrived on Monday of this week and we picked it up last night...

So far very pleased. ...came in just like we expected..very pleasurable purchase.

We haven't tested all the features yet...to cold the last few days to be outside fooling around...single digits @night.

If anyone is interested in any photos of an SEL in Dark Ink with painted 18's let me know.

I'll provide an update in a couple days comparing the this vehicle to our 2004 Explorer EB V8 which we still have.

  8. Just picked up '08 Edge with nav & sync last evening.. I've been waiting for the edge to come in before I upgrading the cell phone ....

need some advise with selecting a verizon plan phone...I've read the info @sync my ride.. There must be more information than what is available there..are there so few phones offered by verizon at this moment that support the feature rich sync capabilities...Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Seems like the other carriers are offering phones with more features that allow the "enhanced Sync experience" ...text message based stuff.

Before I pull the trigger on a new phone...thought I'd consult the masses ...

    thanks in advance....

By the way Sync is very impressive..

  9. Many thanks to this forum for assisting in the decision to purchase an '08 Edge.

So here is what we purchased..

    SEL AWD

    Dark Ink Blue/Black Leather Interior

    Premium Package

    Pana Roof (BAMR)

    Audiophile Radio with Navigation

    Sync (of course!!)

18" painted wheels (because both my wife a I hated the "chrome" 18s & 20s...looks a little sportier w/o the "chrome" wheels.

Not sure on delivery time...dealer suggested the Limited model based on the pricing...but just couldn't go with the chrome accents on the Limited Version...my suggestion to Ford is in '09...get thinking about making this a little more "sporty". Go Jim Farley!!!!!

I'll provide feedback as I get it...

Dealer will confirm options by sending me the DORA...then it's just the waiting came.

My wife did test drive an '08 Edge on the lot before purchase...she really likes this much better than the Explorer... We still have our 2004 Explorer EB V8 purchase new.. thought that may be of interest to the potential edge buyers out there...

  10. I've used mobil 1 5w-20 in my '04 Explorer. About the second oil change with mobil 1 I noticed a gas mileage improvement. Currently I avg 18-19 miles/gal. 4.6 V8 airconditioning on...mostly highway & I don't baby it. So as far as synthetic oils...I'm sold on them. But I do advise to chnage them regularly...the contaminants that get in the crank case are still there regardless of the quality of the oil. my 2 cents

previous to full synthetic motor oil, I used a blend. I've even switched my vintage performance Fords over to all synthetic fluids. I agree with another poster....oil is cheap as compared to a mechanical failure/repair. Regular service is very important!!!

  11. Thanks for the link, appropriate, yes, I had also read it and noted it was a little dated, but at least it was some info worth reading. I wish their was something newer.

I'm in a mild winter climate, we just don't get snow like 20 years ago, anymore. But I keep thinking we will LOL. It's also garaged andwill never see a temp below 50F. I think everyone knows, the Jiffy-Lubes are in business to make money. I even read a thread where a guy, bought his own AMS oil, but found a place to put it in for him, for just $10. Oil's... we learn about them, by word of mouth, advertising, and info past on to us from others. Then we take a chance when we stand in an aisle and look at the different brands, I know I do. Then I decide "Oh Hell, I'll just go with the damn MotorCraft, now what was the weight of that oil I was suppose to use?" I believe it's the start-up cycles, and the cycling of the gears in a transmission that dictate the 'wearing' of oil. IE, driving all day in a big city, vs. 600 miles a day on the Interstate. Pure Interstate driving you could go 10K+ miles on petrol-lube (Group 2 & 3 oil) before an oil change would be needed. The oil will not mildew sitting unused in a crankcase for years. But since the engines are not vacuum-sealed, condensation 'might' be likely to form. Causing oxidation and that will end up in the oil. Filters come into play. Right now, I don't see putting 2K miles on this, so I'm likely to just be throwing away good money, yes. Maybe 5 years from now I might be up to 8K+/yr driving.

Go to the oil-drop server and start reading some of those oil reports people are getting on their mileage of synthetic oil's. It will impress you, but mind you, most of those vehicles are out of their warranty periods also. I didn't look at the threads on the diesel oils.

You learn something everyday. Here in the Midwest, I don't think I've heard of RedLine, quite like a lot of people haven't heard of AMSoil. Picking the 'best' oil's then I would try to gather others opinions as this thread is doing and go with feeling's of other people's. Buying oil is a pocketbook decision. If your happy to go with what the manufacturer recommends, that is all you have to do. That in and of itself, will be fine. Engines now will get you to 150K miles with no problem provided you do the recommended oil changes. If your Like Jeffery and I and don't mind paying a lot more for better engineered oil. you have an added piece of assurance your oil is capable of meeting grueling demands out there in that cold harsh world.

Grey, good question, I feel the same way. I can use it in my Explorer, or I could mix it with the 0W-20, say 4 qts 0-20 + 1 qt 5-30. I could use it in my lawn tractor and tiller, where it will really make me feel I'm doing the best I can on those piece's of machinery. The Warranty paperwork from AMS and on their web site still wants you to go by the recommended manufacturers change intervals. But to be denied a claim based upon using a different oil, would not hold up. No Manufacturer says to ONLY use 'this' oil, it's use an API rated SM oil meeting.........spec's. I do know that newer ring pressures are in use and it's actually better to have a thinner oil on the cylinder walls than a thicker oil, for wipe-down. Gas mileage would also go down slightly. What I don't know at this point is how the oil change interval in the vehicles is computed, if it's just mile based or if their is some type of sensor that can detect how badly the oil is contaminated.

    -------------

Since we all have the same identical engine, what everyone of us is left with: is our choice of oil. Again, today's oil's are not like your father's oil's. That is the major reason this 3.5L change interval has been raised to 7.5K miles. There is now a Group IV oil that can do a 25K or 35K mile cycle. Taking a 25K oil and changing at 15K is cost wise the same as any dino oil @7K miles. And soon every other oil producer will be re-engineering and claiming high mileage for their oil also. Ford has a 10K on the hybrid, Honda has 10K on their engines. Exciting times we live in eh? I have goosebumpen's just thinking about all of this.

    I got carried away

  12. This occurred earlier this month...

I too had a similar experience with a Ford dealer....I stopped into a local dealer (I had considered them my 2nd choice based on the location from my home).... I asked the sales manager about purchasing a 2008 Edge...he asked me why not just purchase a 2007, they are the same....I told him about wanting the sync feature....and he said oh yes relunctantly....I asked if he could order an '08 edge for me...he said that he didn't think the ordering was open on this vehicle yet...something about 1st model year runs going longer...but guess what...my wife and I were traveling by this dealer about 1.5 weeks later and yes he had a 2008 Edge on his lot. Man that really validated my opinion of this guy, after he gave me the business on ordering an '08. I know he wanted to clear out the '07s on his lot...but why not just be straight with me, I would respect him for that...but not now....I will do my best to tell all of my friends about how he conducted himself...for lords safe, he's the new car sales manager at the largest Ford dealer in my area.

Guess I had it right in the first place, I'm staying with the Ford dealer that I used on my last new car purchase/service...they are good people.

  13. I am very interested in understanding what the sport suspension feature provides. I've seen this in included when choosing the 20 inch wheel option on the Limited Model.

    1. Can anyone out there provide the details...

    2. Is this feature available on any other wheel packages from Ford. And if so, what models ie; SE, SEL, Limited.

I'm a car guy...engineer by trade so details are important to me. This Edge is primarily for my wife to drive....but we do like performance Ford vehicles, even though this is a daily driver (not a performance car for sure). But we currently drive an 4.6 EB Explorer...previously Windstars...so we do know what body lean is all about. Previous to children, we drove Mustang GTs...and have a couple old Ford play toys...

Any input is appreciated. Dealer information on this model year is difficult to obtain at this level... I haven't discussed with my favorite dealer yet...plan to do this tomorrow..

Our purchase plans are soon...just trying to make an informed decision.

PS. my wife doesn't care for the chrome wheels...wev'e seen them...hoping the sports suspension is available in the AWD, SEL with 18s...otherwise might have to convince her that 20's look good...LOL

    ================================================================================

Just spoke with local Ford dealer...no details available to this dealer on "sport suspension" just list this as it is part of 20" wheel option that is only on Limited model.

Did some searching on the internet at lunch today...I read that the new '08 Fusion has a sport tuned suspension package..includes; wheels, rear bar, shock adjustment, spring adjustment. maybe this is part of the Edge package as well when the 20" wheel option is selected...your guess is good as mine. wouldn't you think Ford would want to make this information readily available to their dealer network???

come on guys help me out here.
