Went on a long trip with my new 2011 Edge SEL nav. system and ended up with a MAJOR glitch that kept reloading the nav. system which would then eventually reset the whole SYNC system (performing scheduled maintenance screen). My husband insisted there were corrupted files on the SD card. Once we traveled away from that certain area, the nav came back and worked fine the rest of the trip. After arriving home, he zoomed the nav map to that same road/area we encountered problems and, damn if the nav didn't crash again.
Called the main Ford 800 # for SYNC problems and found I was on 2.8 when the latest is 2.11. They believed that scheduling service to update that would solve the problem I described, but did say maybe my husband was right, we might need a new SD card. Scheduled the appt. for the upgrade, which the tech said was a success. Maybe it was for something but not for my problem: my husband could recreate the problem by zooming the nav map to that same area and it would crash the system. He insisted on a new SD card. After MUCH argument, he got the service manager to agree to try a new SD card. They zoomed to that area that crashes my current card and it DID NOT crash the system. They put my existing card into a different vehicle and zoomed to the problem area and crashed that car's nav. system. Needless to say, I got my new SD card.
If you are having similar problems, try insisting on a new SD card. All the upgrades in the world to the system itself won't correct corrupted files on the SD card. And it only takes 2 minutes to try this solution as opposed to the 3 hours to upgrade the software.
This is the 2nd problem I've had with my Edge that I actually walked into the dealer for service, told them what I thought was wrong and they insist that my solution is impossible, and then I'm right. Frustrating!
