  1. Just returned from the dealer. FoMoCo says the phone, a Verizon Motorola Droid Razr model XT912 with firmware level (6.11.748), is listed as SYNC compatible and Text messaging is listed as a supported feature. (my phone has a higher number Firmware edition..I think?)

The Dealer SYNCED my phone to other known vehicles that have text capibility and still only could send a text from the car but could not receive a text to the car. The test text's only go to the phone but not though SYNC and not available as text-to-speech. Now Ford is saying it must be a setting in the phone...ANY HELP OUT THERE? I have Verizons tech service number and will call them and ask for Tier 2 assistance. This thing has got to work...doesn't it? :banghead:

Anyone have better luck with their phones and SYNC and incoming text's? If so is it the same phone and which cellular carrier are you using?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. 2008Bullitt- I have had the car into Ford today and they can't get the phone to work either. They think it's a Verizon issue and now I'm between Ford vs Verizon. As you can guess Verizon is NO HELP either as their staff knows absolutely ZERO.

Since your Mororola Razer can you tell me what cellular carrier you are using? e still have not gotten the new 4G service here in Central Oregon, do you have access to 4G service? Thanks.....

  3. Today we got a pair of new Verizon Droid Razer 4G phones. Tried to send a text to the car and...NOTHING, NADA, ZIP. I cannot believe that these phones are incapable of receiving a text in my 2011 Edge. Is there a setting that needs to be turned on? Either on the phone or on the SYNC system? According to Verizon these are the latest "hot-rod phones" and certainly will work on the text function of the car. Any help out there???

    Thanks in advance...stymed here.

  4. I'm reading all of the great replies and posts about owners who have received their updates (MFT and Nav.). I'm still sitting by the mail box waitng for that "Big Blue Envelope" and NOTHING... :waiting:

I'm wondering if there's a contact at Ford I can check with to be sure I'm on the list for sure or if they can tell me to continute to wait. It's getting kind of frustrating waiting and looking at an empty mailbox. I know I could go to the dealer but I'd rather do the MFT update and nav update myself.

How long should I wait and what is the next step???

  5. Thanks to you all. I knew that the dealer, Verizon and SYNC had to be wrong or not up to date. I asked the guy at the dealer if "the phone doesn't exist at this time that will do text messaging" then why does Ford have a video on it's website that shows it being done? His reply, "well that's just for future use"?

Does anyone think that the "new update" will have any effect on the phones that are FULLY compatible to SYNC? As I said before, my USB and SD haven't shown up in the mailbox yet, guess I might be at the end of the shipping list. I might wait till I get the update installed (if it ever shows up) and then go to the phone store and have them do a trial run before I buy.

  6. The wife and I are qualified for new upgraded cell phones now and I have been asking around to see which one will handle incoming text messaging. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. I went to Verizon and they don't know and have no idea. I went to the dealer and they say "the phone that does that hasn't been made yet". I contacted Ford via SyncMyRide.com and they show a list of 50+ phones that are "compatible" and I know that this is not accurate. The Sync email replied that the "DROID X" will do this. Now who do I believe. Ford has videos showing how the system will receive incoming texts and will read them in voice to you and the dealer says it can't be done??? Who's full of you know what?

Is there ANYONE out there who can give me a truthful and accurate answer?

We haven't received our FMT/Sync/Nav System updates yet...Maybe because my name starts with a "T" and they're sending the updates alphabetically.

Can ANYONE help me figure out this phone thing. Will the update make any difference?

    Thanks to all in advance.

  7. Hell, if they were looking for Beta Testers, all they had to do was come here. We've been unwitting beta testers since day 1!!

Anybody have any idea on dates yet beyond the "First Quarter of 2012"??? I was on the SYNC site yesterday and downloaded what was described as the "new program" and apparently it's the same version I have in my 2011 Edge. Sent an email to SYNC and I got a reply from Ford that states the same basic info as written in the above post. I do have the Navigation system too so as far as I can figure out I'll get both the update for the FMT/SYNC plus the Nav upgrade. It sure would be nice of Ford to keep the owners updated on progress of this project. They sure can make things confusing by offering an update on the SYNC site which is NOT the one they have been working on.

Guess we'll jsut sit and watch our mailboxes.

  8. I'd guess you're right but I'm still wondering what the colors mean. On maps and cartography, colors and symbols mean a specific thing and there is a Legend that explains these things. Too bad we can't get a precise answer.

The blocks of color to the roadsides do refer to public lands (Forest Circus, BLM, etc.) and private property. This I've figured out.

  9. While using the Nav System I have noted that some streets/roads are different colors, and some even "pulsate". Can anyone guide me to a resource that will tell me what the colors mean? Some roads are gray, some are violet, some green, and then some are yellow. It's not like driving on a divided highway and having the opposing lanes show in red, that I understand...but all of those colors have me wondering. I doesn't seem to make a difference if the Nav is guiding me to a destination or I just have the Map Screen on.

  10. I couldn't agree more that from a product delivery standpoint, they should be ashamed of what they've foisted on the public. Every time I see a Ford ad on TV that's highlighting how great MFT is, I want to scream (actually, I usually do scream) "THAT"S NOT WHAT IT"S LIKE AT ALL!"

I've spent 35 years in IT infrastructure and have purchased lots of bleeding edge and beta software, but at least I knew what the risks were when I deployed it. With MFT, I haven't had the number of issues that some people have experienced, and I've learned to live with its idiosyncrasies in my 2011 Sport, but I really feel sorry for the people that may not have the technical insight into what's happening behind the scenes and are even more frustrated with it than I am.

Best thing I ever did was install an On/Off switch inline with fuse 29 so I could reboot the system when I wanted to (even driving down the road).

  12. These projectors use a flap to switch from high to low beam so the cutoff is pretty abrupt. That said, the factory aims them way to low. I brought mine up a little and it makes a huge difference and does not blind other drivers if you get them at the perfect level. It's very easy to adjust them since they have an, easy to get to, adjustment screw.

Thanks fish... I did read about adjusting so I'll give that a try. I've never had a vehicle with these "new-fangled" lights. I was hoping that changing to an aftermarket bulb would do the trick but apparently not.

  13. I am guessing that this has been around as a discussion item and it's not just me who has this question. Forgive me if I'm re-asking a question. I looked at the posts but couldn't find too much.

At night with the low beams on (halogen lights not HID) it seems that the top of the beam is cut off completely. This is most pronounced when I go down a hill, the distance that's lit is cut by about 60% or more...kinda scary when you're looking for deer in the road. Is this just a problem in adjustment? Also, is this problem reduced when aftermarket bulbs are installed? I know it's the auto manufacturers, and probably our government who's there to HELP US, who is mandating this in an attemp to not blind oncoming drivers but it's really bad when you can't see ahead of your own car. Lights are good when you're in-town and on level road but going down a hill is pretty nerve wracking.

  14. One way to track the assembly is to use your VIN and sign up on SyncMyRide. It will show you the date that Sync software is installed.

My car shipped the day after sync was installed.

Wilsons- Can you describe exactly where you can enter a VIN on SyncMyRide??? I've registered on that site but missed where a VIN could be entered. As of yet I don't have a VIN but hope to have it soon. Thanks for any guidance.

  15. Blankster- Thanks so much for your reply. I guess a 2012 would be better...hope the dealer doesn't expect more $$$. I guess we'll just wait to see what happens. I haven't called the dealer but will soon to tell them what I've heard.

    Thanks again.

I discussed this "supply shortage" with the dealer and was told that a dealers orders might be held up and shifted to the next model year but a customers individual order was placed as a priority and would be filled ahead of other orders. That's what I've heard. Still hoping for a car by late June... :shift:

  16. Its realated to supply shortage not quality. Your order may be pushed to a 2012.

  17. I just bought a new edge sport black in color ,, the dealership has to pick the veh up in another state. I have owned about 20 new cars in my life, everything from saabs to corvettes and cadillacs and there is always something that needs to be corrected.. I know there are lemons out there but the company usually is trying hard to fix problems... As far as this voice activated stuff ,, my experience is it does not work in any of the vehs I have owned,, about the best was a 2006 Sts and that still had a lot of glitches..

    Jerry in Minnesota.

I am REAL NEW to this site and no one has replied to my first question. I ordered a 2011 Edge SEL AWD last week and reade a post here or some place that Ford discontinued making the AWD vehicles due to production problems...is this true or a line of BS? Hoping it's BS so we will get our car...can't wait.

    Thanks,

    Lee
