  1. Hi,

I have a 2008 Edge Limited FWD that is leaking transmission fluid. It seems to be coming from in behind the black plastic cover on the transmission. The vehicle has only 12,000 kilometres on it but has no warranty as it was a rebuilder. Does this sound like the seal is gone or something worse? I took it to a shop and they quoted me $800 for the repair. I'd just like to get as much information about this as possible before considering my options. Does this need to be repaired immediately? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    What is a rebuilder?

  2. I think this has been mentioned before. Three times since owning a 2007 Edge when starting of from a standstill after starting the engine the tranny is in a higher gear (maybe 3,4,or5). I stop and restart engine and shift into DR the tranny clunks into gear and then everything is ok. This has nappenned 3 times in 32000 miles. Of course the dealer states everthing is ok. My warranty is up next month.

  3. I will be replacing the original tires (Hankook P235/65TR17.0) on my 08 Edge shortly and wonder if you have any suggestions on what to get or what not to get. I live in upstate NY so it will need to be an all season tire to handle the endless winter months.

I don't mind spending more for a better tire than the OE. Thanks for the help!

I have Conti's on my 2007 Edge with 30,000 miles. The tires have plenty of tread left but they are very noisy and getting worse day by day. I would never buy these tires. Only way to go is Michlin LT's

  4. Hi,

I have about 24,000 miles on my 2007 Edge tires that have been rotated on schedule. The tires are P245/60R 18 Continental Cross Contact LX.

I have noticed that the road noise from the tires seem to get louder with age. Is this because of the type tire or is it because the Edge is an AWD?

What would the best solution to reduce road noise be?

Thank for any help or guidance that you can give me.

I have 23000 on my 2007 Edge. The Continental tires are getting noisy (road noise).

Plenty of tread left but will probably replace with Michilin Latitudes soon.

  5. What is the mileage on your edge?

A fluid change is good preventive maintenance and it will be interesting to hear if you notice a change.

As far as it being "normal" thats crap. Based on your description it doesn't sound like the delay happens if you jump on the gas so it might have something to do with the "learned" behaviour of the tranny. I would think the shift point is based on rpm or fluid pressure so I don't really understand how that one set of conditions is impacting your performance.

    keep us updated !

My Edge has just under 11,000 miles and to early for transmission oilchange.

The problem appears to be tempurature related. It is more noticeable when temp is 90 or more.

The dealer tried to set the tranny "learn" feature back to default but it had no luck.

  6. My 2007 Edge FWD will not shift into 6th gear until speed reaches around 60 MPH. (under slow Acceleration).

This occurs after vehicle has been driven for 20 minutes or so in hot weather and then parked for a while and then back onto highway again. (always hot in SW Florida).

The dealers diagnostic test showed no error codes, therefor no problem even tho tech witnessed problem.

The tech called the Ford hotline and they claimed this was normal.

Anyone in the forum having this problem?

  7. I have been buying my gas at Costco here in Naples, FL. A few months ago there gas pumps started advetising 10% ethanol. My gas mileage dropped form 19 to 17 around town with some highway mixed in.

Ethanol is for the birds but the tree huggers love it.

I am going to try Shell or Mobile and check the difference. Also the on board gas computer is not accurate and tends to inflate the mileage. The only accurate method is to divide actual gas usage into actual mileage.

  8. I am new to the forum...and thinking of trading in a 03 Z71 Tahoe. for an edge. I get about 17 mpg HIGHWAY with the TAHOE.....and with gas prices...well you know the deal.

Reading all the posts regarding gas mileage......I wish people would (some do) point out the options on the car and whether is AWD or FWD, as this makes a HUGE difference in what you will get in terms of mileage.

I know that two major causes of poor fuel economy is WEIGHT and FRICTION. So if you have an AWD model with the ROOF option, your car is the HEAVIEST..EDGE made, and therefore will fall into the LOWEST category for fuel mileage.

So, if you wouldnt mind, when responding to the GAS mileage posts...please include the following: :stats:

    1) AWD or FWD

    2) Roof or no roof

    3) RIM/Tire size

    4) City or Hwy or Combo

    5) Use the AC or windows

    6) Hot climate or cold climate

    7) Hills or flat.

This will help out greatly when comparing mileage.

    thanks

I have a 2007 Edge, 2 wheel, 18 inch tires and no sunroof.

Here in FL most driving is done with a/c on.

Have been gettin 18-19 mixed driving and on a 3400 mile trip (Boston & back)

I averaged 23-24. Speed up to 80 at times but mostly 70-75

This was in December so no a/c. Lately the mileage has dropped 1-2 miles per gallon.

It could be a change in "summer blended" gas. I buy most gas at Costco.

Also have noticd the transmission shift points have changed and does not always shift into 6th gear.

Ford states this is temperature related which I think is bull. Will be going back to dealer again soon.

Costco and Sams have signs on there pump that read 10% Ethanol added to gas.

I know this also lowers mileage.

  9. I have had similar issues with my 2007 Edge (5200 miles).

I have heard a couple different things.

    1. The six speed trans is computer controlled and "learns". My neighbor works for Ford and told me that I could request the transmission be "re-flashed"... re-programmed.

    2. I am also told that Ford knows of this issue. (Thus, the re-flash as a recomendation)

    3. I have also been told that the "engagement" part of the electronic control system controls the torque converter and clutches sometimes creating this issue. Again, this might go back to re-programming the trans.

First thing I would do is request your dealer re-program the transmission and see what happens.

If this does not improve the complaint, I would get Ford involved.

From what I understand, these transmissions are in other vehicles as well and are considered reliable.

On my Edge... I noticed the issue (banging into gear at low speeds) early on, but haven't noticed it recently.

    I am watching and listening.

My 2007 edge has banged into 2nd gear when accelerating away from traffic light after easing up on the pedal and then hitting the gas pedal again. This has only happened once. Also have tranny slipping when shifting from 5th to 6th gear. The rpm increases 500 rpm and then drops back to mormal after a second or two. This started at 6000 miles and now have 9000 miles on the Edge. Will be taking to dealer in a week or so.

  10. 2007 Edge Sel+ FWD with 7000 miles.

Transmission slips when shifting from 5th to 6th gear. The RPM's increase 500 RPM and then drop back to normal. The slippage lasts 1-2 seconds. This problem appears to be getting worse as time goes on.

Anyone else had or having this problem.

After a few more weeks I will be taking Edge back to dealer.

  11. There appears to be some more people on the other forums who are experiencing poor mpg as I am. Like I stated. I have driven the Edge hard for a tank and followed all speed limits (actually slower most of the time) and I still have not had impressive numbers at all.

I have yet to go out and do a whole tank of gas highway trip. and I just turned 1500 miles or so on the odomoter, so the engine does need to break in...

IF I could just get 16-17 mpg on a regular basis I would not be upset at all. Thats all I was getting on my Jeep Liberty. And gas prices just started climbing back up since I purchased this Gas HOG, go figure!

Dont get me wrong, I wasnt being Mr. Green buying a 6cyl 265 hp 4000lb vehicle. But I would NOT have bought it, if the sticker said avg mpg 13/18 You can bet on that! :censored:

2007 Edge SEL+ FWD 7000 miles. Average for city driving is 18 MPG.

Highway average is 23 MPG. The computer mileage is about 1 1/2 MPG higher which is of course erronious.

This mileage is much better than my previous 2004 Durango.

  12. I'm considering a similar dual-band antenna, mounted on the rear side glass, but was concerned that the tinting is a metalic type, and may prevent a "thru the glass" antenna from working properly. What's been your experience? Which make/model antenna did you install? Any advice is appreciated.

    Pete - N4PJL

    Virginia

My last two vehicles had tinted glass and the MFJ Dual Band antenna worked fine.

I don't believe the tinted windows in the newer vehicles contain any metal compounds.

I mounted the antenna on the drivers side rear (small) window. The transceiver is under the rear seat and the control head is mounted in the cubby hole behind the shift lever.

The radio is wired back to the power module (cigar lighter plug) in the rear of vehicle.

It would be better to run the wires direct to battery which I will do some day.

    Good luck with your installation

  13. have about just over 2000 miles and i have not seen 16mpg. i baby this car. slow takes off. i dont gun it at all. i do mostly city driving and have not seen 16mpg. usually around 14. 14.5. i did take one road trip and got around 22.5. and that was around 1000 miles on it.

i took it to the dealer concerning the terrible gas mileage. (sticker says 18.) they put in on the reader and says there is nothing showing. says there is a break in period. well, i am still waiting! i dont look at the dash read out. i calculate it by hand. they both never match.

i absolutely love the car but the fuel consumption is killing me. about 140 miles per half tank.(14.0 per gallon)

    any one else have this!

usually when i find another edge driver, i ask them how is there gas mileage and they really dont know, they dont check it!

CAN ANYONE HELP ME AND SAY IT IS GOING TO GET BETTER! AT LEAST UP TO 16-17 MPG

    2007 Edge SEL+ FWD with 5500 miles.

Just got back fro 1560 mile trip, mostly highway and averaged 24 MPG on the computer.

Average sdeed was 64 but pushed 80 occassionally. Around town aveage is about 15-17

Still not sure where to put the antenna....currently using HT for commute on simplex.

Let me know where you decide to place the antenna. Thought about a trunk type mount on the hatch.

BAMR - no holes in my roof! regardless

    2007 Edge SEL+ FWD

I am a ham (NN1NN) but have US ARMY vanity plate. I have "thru the glass antenna" mounted on drivers side far rear window. Of coarse it is only 1/2 wave but is sufficient for VHF and UHF

  15. I have a 2007 MKX and was initially very concerned that the seats were very firm. But I liked the CUV very much and bought it (with heated/cooled seats).... Have since realized that the firm seats work to your benefit on longer trips. I realized this after driving for two hours on a parkway. At the end of the trip I stepped out of the CUV without pain and I didn't feel stiff... I have a bad back so it's not like I'm in the best of shape and I am very far from being young ....

    2007 Edge sel+ FWD

Just drove from Boston, MA to Naples, FL 1560 miles

I am 71 yrs young, 6'2", 180 lbs and found the leather heated seats very comfortable.

I made the trip in 2 days (14 hours each day).

  16. Has this pulling to the right problem stopped?

The vehicle still pulls slightly to the right. Most noticeable at high speed.

I wonder if it is caused by transaxle torque. This vehicle follows the crown of the road more than my AWD Durango did. I have a 3500 mile trip coming up in November and I want this beast in top shape!

  17. My Edge with 300 miles on it went in for engine oil leak a few days ago.

They gave a rental car to use (Ford Fusion). Not a bad car but it is a 2006 and the interior is dirty and stained. If the vehicle is not fixed in a couple of days I will return the rental for somethig better.

It appears from what I have found on the various forums Ford Edges have quality problem.

Florida has a good Lemon Law which I will be looking into.

Picked up my Edge at the dealer today. The oil leak was caused by a faulty oil filter adapter o-ring.

There was a metal shaving in the o-ring. They also performed TSB-07-7-6 on front end due to pulling to the right. Wonder what is next!

  18. When I had mine in for work, they gave me a Focus also. Actually, I was really surprised how well it drove for such a basic car. The A/C worked great. By the time I got the seat adjusted & was out of the parking lot, I already had to turn it down because it was so cold. The temp was in the upper 90's that day.

  19. I took my EDGE into the Dealership early this week for the noise. They told me everything was with in normal limits......however if I wanted to meet with the service manager to point out the noise I could. I met with the service manager and pointed out the noise. He told me that he would have a Ford Engineer (I think he said engineer) listen to the noise. I was told the Ford Engineer wants the motor to be sent back for further inspection. It is pure spectulation on what is "wrong". They are shiping a replacement new motor from the factory line on Monday. I should get my EDGE back in 4-5 working days.

I took my 2 week old Edge in to dealer for engine oil leak.

They gave me a rental car and said they would find out where the leak was.

This should not happen with a new car and I am concerned about poor quality control.

They have already performed the TSB for the "pulling to right" problem but as I have not driven it yet I am not sure whether that problem has been fixed.

  20. I thought the "pulling to the right problem" was fixed but have noticed that at high speed there is still pull to right. Also engine has developed slight oil leak around the oil pan or oil filter.

It is going back to dealer in a few days. I am not a happy camper. Second trip back to dealer in two weeks.

Hope I did not get a LEMON.

Picked my Edge last week. NN1NN is the call here and will be installing "through the

the glass" dual band antenna. As it is a half wave antenna, no ground plane is needed. Not as effective as 5/8 wave but is better than nothing.

  22. My 2007 FWD just purchased is pulling to the right! I called the dealer and they stated they never heard of TSB to fix the problem. Am taking it Monday for repair. Other than this problem I am pleased with the EDge SEL+ with everything put NAV system.

Took Edge into dealer today for front end alignment. The tech stated the toe in was out of adjustment.

It appears the "pulling" problem has been corrected. I have noticed that the vehicle has more tendency to wander in direction of crown slope than my previous Durango which had AWD. This appears to be normal for this Ford vehicle which is FWD.
