  1. I HAVE A 2010 EDGE AWD WHEN ITS COLD I DRIVE TO A LIGHT AND STOP SUDDENLY YOU GET A THUMP IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN STOPPED IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE TAP YOUR REAR BUMPER ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS COLD ANY BODY HAVE THAT PROBLEM ONLY 6500 MILES.

It may not be your transmission. It may be your rear axle, as mine was. It first started out feeling as if it were the transmission, but after putting about 10,000 more miles and the rear end began roaring. Come to find out it was the rear wheel bearings.

  2. It specifically states in the glove box warranty manual that front and rear bearings are covered under the 5 year 60,000 warranty. I don't know the page number as the car is actually at ford as I type this.

GOSH! Thank you so much! Taking my 2009 Edge in tomorrow and they are saying the rear bearings are NOT covered. I will look for this tonight. Thanks again for your post!

  3. The cost for replacing both rear axle bearings was $964 and change!!!! By the way the entire rear brake system has been replaced on this vehicle as well ($690.00). Don't think I mentioned that this is a lease vehicle - Considering the new set of tires that I had to put on this vehicle at around 30,000 miles, I have about $2300.00 into it. No way I can afford to roll this over into a new lease in June - I've already spent my down payment for the new lease on repairs to this one!!! I have been leasing Ford products since 1983 - this is the first time this has happened - maybe I should have stuck with the Explorer!!!

The most miles I have ever put on a vehicle is 105,000 miles. They have always been Fords..... I have NEVER had to replace rear axle bearings either!

I get a new vehicle every 3 years. I have always had the Explorers. I too went with an Edge in 2009. I was experiencing the roaring noise in the rear end too about 30,000 miles. Ford dealership told me it was my tires. My guess is if it were my tires, the sound would vary from different types of asphalt/pavements. However, the noise remains the same. I am now at 55,000 miles and the noise is getting louder and louder. Also, at times I feel a jerking sensation coming from the rear. I did purchase the extended warranty and hopefully it's covered. It's just a hassle to take it in and arrange a rental. I will keep you all posted!
