  1. So I've searched the forums and found posts on the PTU issue, which seem to describe my issue pretty well. The problem is that my 2011 Limited is not AWD, and so I assume it has no PTU.

After warming it up, or driving up a hill or something, it smells like hot or burning rubber. Sometimes it is more putrid. One time my uncle thought his neighbors were burning garbage again, but it was just my car.

Will be taking it into the dealership in a month or so for its first maintenance and probably the SYNC update (on 2.4 currently). Just thought it would be nice to be prepared with some info when I go in.

    Thanks!

When we were at the dealer buying our 2011 edge limited they brought up a white limited for us to try. Smelled just as you describe, hot rubber. salesman brushed it off as new car hot smells.Did not buy that one. Doug-j

  2. I have a ingot silver 2010 MKX that I had the dealer throw in pin striping. He ask me what I wanted and I told him just make it look good. So when I

picked it up it was a two tone, black over a shade darker metallic silver with a Lincoln logo. It looks quite nice.

Thanks for the reply and information. That color combo sounds good and my wife will probbly fo that route, her car. Doug-J

  3. Hi Doug,

I've seen one or two pinstriped edges around my home here, I'll see if I can catch a few pictures of them. I think it looks pretty sharp if you get someone that can do it well. Also, it really depends on the color of the edge.

We have a silver limited so I was thinking blue or black striping. What do you think? Doug-J

  4. Almost every car will exhibit the same behavior to some degree. By opening up a single window you create a sealed, resonant cavity that creates the pressure pulses that can cause real discomfort (as you found out). If you crack open a window on the other side, the resonant cavity is eliminated and the sound goes away.

Dropping the other back window, at the same time does not make any difference, tried that. Went to Ford dealer this morning and their answer is that it is a "FORD" and the all do this including the trucks. I had a 2004 Ford Lariat that did not do this with the back window open. We love the vehicle so we won't open the back window underway and live with it. Doug-J

  5. My wife has a 2011 Edge limited 2WD loaded. Yesterday she called me saying there was a terrible noise in the car and her ears hurt over 45 mph. This was a new one on me as I have been driving for 60 years and never heard of this before.I told her to pull into a parking lot and wait till I got there. When I arrive I noticed the driver side rear window was about halfway down. I took her car and put the window up as it was 95 degrees. Drove about 1 mile, no noise. Put the rear window down half way, #### noise you wouldn"t beleive, the car actually seemed to shake. Window up gone. Same with passenger side. Anyone else with this situation? Try yours and see. I think Ford has a air turbulance probem with the rear interior design. Doug-J
