  1. I am another with this problem. I brought my 2007 Edge, 15600 miles, AWD to Midas for an oil change and the mechanic there told me about a "transmission leak" that he had found, but couldn't trace where it came from. He told me that the transmission fluid level was fine though.

I dropped it off this morning to the Ford dealer (Ford of Hyannis) and was told that the leak is caused by a bad axle seal. The part is on order and hopefully will be in tomorrow.

After reading the many posts on this problem, I do recall smelling the burning smell after stopping. It only happened a couple of times and I wasn't sure if it was coming from my vehicle or not. I guess it was.

Thanks to all who have posted here about the leak problem in the Edge. Hopefully, the replacement seal will work and I'll be all set. We love the car otherwise.

  2. Love this car! Got that awsome Copper color SEL NAV, leather, kitchen sink etc. Only thing couldn't find was with AWD but no big deal, it's not really for "off road" is it? It's more for bad weather right? I'm in So Cal so there's not much of that here anyway!

Can't wait to drive some more...

Congrats on your new Edge. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

  3. Hi msp0789. :D Well, while the answer is relatively simple, it is harder to explain in writing. The sensors are usually located up front in the bumper/radiator area, off to one side. The reason that the reading is higher when the vehicle is sitting still is because the heat from your vehicle, and the heat from the ground (asphalt, concrete, etc.) will give an artificially high reading.

The sensor is meant to read ambient air temperature. If your vehicle is parked, the ambient air temperature in the area of the vehicle is higher than the ambient air temperature away from a vehicle. This is due to the rays of the sun heating up the metal of the vehicle, the asphalt, concrete, etc, etc.

When your vehicle is moving, the sensor can then get an accurate reading of the ambient air temperature, since the heat from surrounding objects is mostly nullified by te fresh air rushing through the sensor area.

And just to anticipate the next possible question: No if the vehicle is moving, the reading does not get affected by the "wind chill factor". "Wind Chill" does not affect inanimate objects.

Hope this helps and is not too confusing.

    Good luck! :beerchug:

Many thanks to akirby and especially bbf2530 for their input on this question. It all makes sense now.

    Cheers!

  4. Thanks I retired at 53 with 85% of my pay. I was passed over for promotion

even though my super implied that wouldn't happen. He wanted me to stay. I

basically said "bye". Being retired is like dying and going to heaven, I hope.

With every day that passes this car grows on me. I've been a GM guy all

my life till now. I know the Edge is not for everyone, but it sure fits me like

a glove. Didn't want a car and was tired of SUV's. Plus I think it is a very

sharp looking CUV. Hope I feel this way a long time.

We bought our '07 Edge in October and love it. I'm 54 and retiring in the 2d week of January. I'm only getting 75% of my pay though....LOL. Who says the edge is for the younger crowd? Good luck with your new ride.

  5. So we ordered out X-plan Edge yesterday. :shift:

We got a White Sand Limited FWD with Charcoal Interior, BAMR, and 20" wheels with the sport suspension, and all weather mats. We already have a portable sirus radio we can plug into the Sync system, Thankfully we're able to open and close a rear liftgate by ourselves, and we just bought a Tomtom GPS so there was nothing else for us to consider.

Pretty simple really, So I was really surprised that the dealer could not locate one close enough to North NJ to trade with another dealer???

Do you think there's any incentive for a dealer to order a vehicle rather then trade a dealer for one? Maybe they didnt even really check?

Now the wait has started....

Good luck with your new Edge. I hope it comes in for you on the low end of of the "6-8 weeks". You're going to love your new vehicle. I promise.

  6. Hey guys! Newbie here. I'm from NJ and I am in loveeeeeeeee with the Edge! The Edge will be my very first car and I am soooo excited. I just have to wait and get some cash-ola haha. I plan to order before January though. Currently I want:

Copper Metallic w/ either black leather or camel leather (i can't make up my mind)

    SEL

vista roof or (BAMR as I see you call it) lol

    rear sensing system

    18" chrome wheels

My choices change day to day though. I still don't know if I want copper exterior or black. I'm glad I found this forum and it will be fun to chat about the edgyyyyyy!

Lisa....go with the black leather. I looked at both camel and black and the camel colored dash reflected badly onto the winshield. I got the black and it's fine. Just a little glare from the chrome in the middle of the dash.
