Just happened to me this morning at the gas station. When I got back in the car and tried to start, got the key not found message and then the alarm went off which I was able to silence with the key fob. I remembered that there was an alternate way to start the car and looked in the manual which describes sliding the fob into the slot in the consol. But does not tell you where the slot is and if you read the description you can't tell which way you are supposed to insert it. But didn't matter because when I found the slot, it didn't work. I called my dealer. They were pretty useless as they kept telling me to look for a space under the steering wheel as it sounds like they have changed where to insert the fob in the 2013 models. Finally, I called my wife who brought the other key fob from home and that started immediately. I was guessing that the key fob battery was bad until I found this thread. Now, I'm not so sure. If it happens again, I will remember the lock, wait suggestion. Maybe good old keys weren't such a bad idea after all.

Sure - they work fine. Most aren't quite as accurate - may be off a few hundred feet but they do work. The difference is the size of the screen and audio through the car speakers, plus a few other sync/Nav only features.
thanks

For the $795 by it at a minimum for the resale. It's def worth it. If it were $2795 or even $1795 I'd say pass.
That's a good point, thanks.
But has anyone actually tried using the GPS on a Smartphone as opposed to the factory option? Does it work? Is it an ok alternative?

Hi
I'm about to buy a 2011 Edge and am trying to decide if I should go for the Nav option. I have a Sprint Evo 4G phone (android 2.3). Do I need the nav or can I get what I need thru the Sync with my phone?
Thanks

I had the exact same experience this morning at the gas station and I too have a 2011 Edge and the manual says buttons facing out. Didn't matter, slot didn't work. My wife brought the second fob from home and that got it started. And yes, I too called the dealership and they had no clue on where the slot was. The manual should have a picture or diagram, which it doesn't and I'm glad to hear that they have fixed the wording. But, now I have no idea why it did it or when it will happen again. Ugh.
