  1. Just an Update!!!

I called my dealer, and we got the one on the lot. The only thing it did not have in it was the all weather mats, which are being ordered...

SO, as of TODAY, I am an EDGE OWNER!!!!!

Oh, and talk about SYNC....Spoiled!!! I am SPOILED!

I never want to pick up my phone to dial a number again! I have not had a lot of time to play with everything, but so far, I love it all!

    WIll post pics soon!!!

    :happy feet:

Congrats....I believe we have twins...anyway, you now have to order your rear bumper guard to protect that bumper... www.aslauto.com $29.95 + s/h....

  2. BAMR = Big A$$ Moon Roof

Holdback is the same for stocked unit or special ordered. The stock unit may have experienced some floor plan expense (interest on the note) that they would like to recover.

    Buy it before it's gone.

    DUH...thanks...I have one of those!!!

My advice to npggirl would be to tell the dealer that they have the one that she wants...so to let her have it or she should order from another dealer. I just got my EDGE-loaded last week....the dealer did a swap with another dealer 250 miles away so they could provide to me...I would be very upset if they had the one on the lot that I ordered, if they would not sell it to me....GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. Ahoy Maties...

Okay, so I ordered my 08 Edge about a week or so ago...

My question is, is there something special about ordering? I mean....well kinda hard to explain...

I ordered my edge because I wanted to make sure I got an Edge with everything I want on it....Which meant loaded!

BUT, since ordering, my dealership that I ordered from has gotten an Edge in Identical to what I ordered...

08, white sand, camel int, fully loaded....everything...

So, should I go talk to them about getting that one?

Should I wait for my personalized order?

Is there any special things we get for actually "ordering" one?

    I am just curious....

I assumed the reason everyone actually places an order for these is to get them exactly like they want them, but hey, they have one at the lot now...

    :stats:

Tell the dealer you want the one they have on the lot...they may resisit because you already have one purchased, even tho' on order. What is BAMR?

  4. You don't have to listen to all the options every time. Here are a few options for you:
    1. Use "Advanced Interaction" mode
    2. Simply barge-in when SYNC is speaking

Let me explain these options in a little more detail.

Advanced Interaction mode cuts down on the "explanatory" prompts that SYNC utters and speeds up voice interaction considerably without you having to do anything. To enable this mode, press the Voice button and, after SYNC is listening to you, say "Interaction mode advanced". Once enabled this mode will persist until you change it back again. To revert to the standard voice mode, press Voice and say "Interaction mode standard"

The other option, barge-in does not require any changes. It simply means that you can interrupt SYNC at any time by pressing the Voice key and SYNC will immediately start listening. So if you know what to say you can interrupt it right away and speak your command.

Note, that you can use barge-in at any time, even with advanced interaction mode.

Hope this makes your SYNC user experience less clunky. Let me know if you have any questions,

Thanks for the tip....how do you activate the "barge-in" mode?

  5. Ahhhhhh, thanks for explaining about clunky. I get what you are saying...

Hmmm, very interesting...I have seen on videos of SYNC where they said command, and could just activate what they wanted...like USB, or phone...

would love to find out more about that...

Fabulous about the white color...i cannot wait...i love the metallic look...

    Thanks!!!

I'll be able to dig into the SYNC this weekend when I have more time...good to hear of shortcuts...

I'll take a few pics and post...it's pretty sweet lookin'

FYI...I also ordered the rear bumper guard that has been discussed on this Board, it should arrive Monday 11/5...

  6. Awesome and congrats!!!!

Great to hear all the great comments....

As for SYNC...even though you need a bit more time to check it out...what do you mean by "clunky"?

How do ya like that white sand color???

Mine is on order...so i cannot wait!

When using SYNC, you need to tell it what device you'd like to hear (AM, FM, CD, USB, etc)...so what I mean by "clunky" is that you must activate SYNC, then the "voice" recites all of the options before you are permitted to make a selection. This is great the first time you use it, however I don't need to hear the entire list everytime I wish to use my ipod. Since your ipod plugs into the USB connection, which is at the end of the list, you must wait for all of the recitation before it will accept your selection. It would seem that you should just be able to hit the button and say "USB", then whatever artist you wish to hear.

Remember that this is new, so there be a shortcut or two that we have not yet discovered...however there is a readout on the Nav screen that says "listening" when it is time for you to talk. This does not display until after all of the options are read.

The White Sand is fantastic...very deep, metallic-looking and slightly off-white.

  7. We picked up our Limited Edge yesterday...got most everything on it:

    White Sand/Camel (beautiful)

    Navigation

    SYNC

    Power Lift Gate

    Panoramic Sun Roof

    Tow pkg

    Floor Mats

    Organizer

..did not get DVD as the dog doesn't watch movies, only News...

Dealer did a great job...I submitted internet requests to 6 local dealers, only got a follow-up from one dealer (amazing!!!), so they got my business at the X-Plan price. They did not have in-stock, but found what we wanted 250 miles away, so they did a dealer swap and went and got it for me for delivery yesterday, a one-day turnaround...very good service plus the last day of the month, while 5 other dealers did not respond...I can't get over that one...I guess that is one of the problems they face...

First impressions are that the brakes (normal driving) are somewhat mushy, but our Honda's seem a little too grabby...I guess we have both ends of the spectrum...we'll get used to them I'm sure. Good pickup, but less than the Mazda CX-7, which we drove....different vehicles I know...the Edge is much more in a luxury class in feel, quietness, and amenities. A couple of things we did not expect...Homelink was on the drivers visor, even though not noted anywhere as an option or standard equipment. Also the keyless entry pad on the driver's door, which was noted as a dealer option...included with this one. Power lift gate works very well with an auto shutoff if it hits something on the way down. My wife loves this feature when shopping...I guess now she can have both arms full!! Interior leather appointments are very calssy and comnfortable. The Sync seems a little clunky to me, but I will reserve judgement after using for awhile. Bluetooth syncing was very smooth and works great. The dealer assisted in setting up our phones, and said it can handle up to 12 phones at once. Another nice feature is the rear seat fold-down. This can be done manually at the rear doors or by push-button from the rear hatch, very nice if you come out of Home Depot with alot more than you expected, and have your hands full...just hit the button (one for each side) and down goes the seat for more room...very cool.

We will be traveling on vacation in 3 weeks, so we will put about 2,000 on it, so I will have some real-life feedback upon our return...A full report then.

Thanks to all of you for your input on this Board while I was doing my research, you were all VERY helpful!!!

  8. For those of you that have the 2008, this does have the USB connection, correct?

Not the audio connector, but the USB, right?

I was just noticing in pics of the 2008 (from the FORD site) that the only connector it shows is the round (audio) one like you use with headphones...

But I keep reading that you are able to charge your ipod and connect ipod via USB port in 2008...

    Hope I am correct!

    Thanks for any help...

Both USB + mini plug ...accepts an I-Pod just fine and SYNCs well....

  9. A real X-Plan pin is usually good to the end of the year or until the sponsor cancels it. If canceled, it does not count against the sponsors allowable pins. Pin eligibility starts over every January.

When BON was promoting the wholesale bastardazation of the plan, they would tell you to use it in 30 days or it would be cancelled.

Now that Ford has slapped their hands and are watching the requests, the activity has slowed down.

I've given out over 100 pins through the years - mostly to neighbors to get them out of a competitive vehicle and some to family members who can't use A/Z plan pins (nephews, etc.) Several dealers told my sponsored customers that they would sell them a vehicle at X-Plan price without the pin. They bought the deal only to find out later that if they had used the pin, there were other incentives they would have been eligible for. The dealer pocketed the incentives and the customer paid more than they should have (at least in my mind.)

But, it raises the age old question - "What is a fair profit on a high ticket item?" If you promise a salesperson a comission that is greater than the profit you make on a vehicle then you have multiple problems.

"If you want to make a small fortune, take a big fortune and invest in a car dealership." :banghead:

So...I would need to request a "PIN" from someone, and then present to a dealer for a better price?

  10. Did you give them your name, address, social security number (last 4)?

    Could be a come-on.

When there are incentives, almoct any dealer would sell at X-Plan and keep the incentives.

I'm thinking it was a come-on...as they sent an "KI PIN", whatever that is.....could someone fully explain the X-PLan?

  11. So finally I've gotten around to taking a few pictures.

    Here's the gallery: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?automodule=gallery&req=user&user=1027

Even though I've tried, the pictures don't do the vehicle justice. So a few more observations:

    1) A HOOT to drive. Plenty of power; very zippy.

    2) Brakes work just fine.

    3) No problems with door seams.

    4) Dash lights just right at night. (I've posted a picture)

    5) No problems with filling it up.

    6) No problems with right-hand drift.

    7) Once you get the hang of it, Sync works great. Just a note - only phones that have in-band ringing will actually play the assigned ring tones through the system. My doesn't but the default ring is just fine.

    8) How did we ever survive without satellite radio?

    9) X-plan works great.

    More will follow, as necessary.

Sorry for some reason I get an error message trying to look at the pics...this is the color I am going to order, so I would like to seem them. How long from time of order until delivery?

  12. I have the CX-7 and let me tell you, the EDGE's brakes are just terrible in comparison(because I can hear ABS in the EDGE when braking hard), but nothing that can't be fixed with new pads, brake lines and rotors, I also believe that Ford changed over to Vented rotors in the back after it got around about the long braking distances. But in reality they're not that long. The CX-7 is Sport Sedan, the EDGE is like, sunset cruiser, so its not all that fair to compare.

Are you pleased with your decision to have hte CX-7 vs. the Edge?

  13. That was the 2007 models - the 2008 models have Michelin tires and are supposed to have improved braking. The CX-7 is a lot smaller than the Edge so keep that in mind, too.

That's a negative...about 10 cu ft less luggage capacity...but it handles like a sports car and is very quick...this is for my wife, so the braking issue is a concern...I have read the other threads but no one has definitively stated how the issue has been resolved in 2008.

  14. I'm looking to buy an Edge Limited...we like it very much, and are comparing to the Mazda CX-7. Edmunds reports that the brakes on the Edge takes 153 ft. to stop from 60mph...while the CX-7 takes 113 ft. This is a BIG difference in a panic situation. So, I'm looking for feedback from other owners on this issue....
