  1. glad to hear....please confirm that all Sync SMS (text messaging) functions are fully operational with this phone...I've been hearing that some folks are having trouble with certain cell phones.

     

    Like me, the first thing I thought was that SYNC was indeed faulty.

     

    While SYNC paired my LG VX8300 immediately, the 'download phonebook' failed each time. I was very frustrated and took my new car down to the dealership. Even the 'techies' there were stumped after 1/2 hour of trying and suggested that I may have a faulty system.

     

    And for anybody who has gone to Synchmyride.com will quickly learn that the FAQ and troubleshooting is pretty barren and unhelfpul. There isn't even a phone number to call MS on this, just an email address.

     

    Well....I decided to check my Verizon's firmware. Come to find out my phone was 3 software versions behind...something most people overlook. I took my phone to Verizon, and they were able to flash the internal chip to version 4, and voila!!!! SYNC downloaded my phonebook flawlessy in 10 seconds, and works fine.

     

    So make sure you update to the latest firmware via your wireless carrier. It was overlooked at first and caused a lot of frustration the 1st 24 hours for me. :finger:

  2. I tracked the production of my 2008 Ford Edge Limited from when it was ordered on October 26 until it was produced on December 3. Now one of the Railway fellows is tracking it's progress while it travels by rail across Canada to Calgary.

     

    Just post your VIN as the topic and ask one of the Ford Employees who monitors the forum to help you out. Unfortunately "ViperPilot" who has been doing a lot of the tracking is on holidays until January. However I note that some of the other fellows are now picking up the slack

    Yeah, I posted my VIn number yesterday and noted that ViperPilot was on vacation.

     

    So far there seems to be a few people ahead of me requesting order status and so far... unanswered. I'll just cross my fingers, but no one has posted since I did yesterday.

     

    The way I figure I am hopefully still on track for the next 10 days or so.

  3. The issue that I'm having is not a signal loss. That has happened in the past in heavy tree cover or under overpasses. This issue states "Sat Fault" on the display.

    It really seems to be when the car is cold. This morning it took 10 minutes to kick in. I stopped for a few minutes and when I got back in the car it worked fine.

    When I went to lunch and when I left work for home, it faulted again.

    Since my commute is only 10-15 minutes, it defeats the purpose of having Sirius.

    Hopefully the dealer can fix it.

  4. Well, today is Friday and I called my dealership....

     

    Asked for my VIN number or any information to track order....After being apssed around to a few people on the phone, I had the sense no one there knew they could do this. I even spoke with the 'manager'. All he did was take my name and number and said he'd have my sales associate call me when he was available.

    Update: Well, I was finally able to speak with my salesperson today. He said he'd call me back later with my VIN number (not yet), but the best update he could now give me is that my Edge is currently in Texas, and could be possibly here next week, but he thinks before the 20th at the latsest now.

  5. Thanks... I went to my dealer at lunchtime yesterday and made an appointment. I was hoping they could look at it then since it was happening but they made me an appointment for next week. I have to leave the car overnight since it started happening when the car is cold.

    I honestly don't think it is the installation, but I am curious to hear the results of the dealers findings.

     

    Satellite is very fickle despite it's progressive technology. Climate change, elevation, cloud cover, time of day, and car location can all affect transmission pickup.

     

    I have XM in my car now, and I kid you not, I notice issues when it's foggy outside, or early in the morning when it's cold. At certain times of the day, as the earth rotates especially with the recent time changes, your overall 'angle of sight-line' to the satelite overhead changes. My reception is always better in summer months, or in the middle of the day.

     

    Despite what Sirius and XM say regarding weather conditions should have no affect, I say phooey. Everybody I know who has either XM or Sirius say that weather does indeed affect signal, the biggest culprit is fog or marine layers.

     

    But i do recall recently hearing about Sirius haveing some broadcasting issues a few weeks back during a mainetance/upgrade window. I assume it may have been fixed by now.

  6. Follow up on Fridays - Ford updates scheduling and reporting each Thru. evening.

     

    Order to delivery timing has a lot of variables -

    Does the dealer have allocation for the next months production?

    Are you ordering high risk options (BAMR)?

    Did the dealer order as a retail or stock unit?

    What priority did the dealer put on the order (10-99)?

    Did the dealer convert a stock order (already in the system) to your retail order?

    Did the dealer hold the order before putting it in? (Order manager out ?)

    Is the plant down for changeover/vacation?

    and many more.

     

    All things the dealership would know about if they checked their bulletins, and/or control themselves.

     

    Wow, I really didn't know I could ask these type of questions, so sadly, I have no idea.

     

    While I am so jonesing to get my hands on my order, in a way, another 2-3 weeks from now isn't gonna kill me. I figure with all the Christmas shopping going on right now, I am not necessarily eager to start car payments that I haven't had in over 6 years now. :shades:

     

    Is there a place where Rodeo's go to die? Mine is 11+ years now.

  7. FYI - It came in today - Like the other poster - at about 5 weeks on the nose!

     

    Will be picking up on Friday!

     

    Well, I am envious of you all. My dealership told me 6-8 weeks.

     

    After 4 weeks, I decided to give them a call and see if I could get status. First guy I spoke to said around Dec 17. Then I was called the next day and told the 'week of' Dec 21st!!

     

    That puts me right about 8 weeks, closer to 9 :wacko:

    You should expect the second generation Zune device to work with your SYNC much like the first generation. You may notice some performance improvements on SYNC like shorter times between track changes, but the SYNC functionality will be quite similar.

    Well Marcus, not to sound ungrateful (sounds promising), however, anyone who doesn't work for Microsoft have a report on the second gen Zune?

     

    We all know how Microsoft also praises Vista and what the user community thinks of it...... :wacko:

    I had nearly 1500 songs on the USB flash drive yet the Sync system on displays 766. This is when I tell it to Play All and/or have it on shuffle mode. I think the very first time I insert it I may have only had 766 songs but now I have 1500. It's seems to shows all the artists and songs if I do a manually search and play by Genre but the Play All doesn’t seem to register all the songs. Very odd.

     

    We need a place to report these bugs to Ford/Microsoft so they can get it correct in the next system update. I don't see any feedback links on the syncmyride.com website.

     

    I wonder if any of the songs are DRM protected? I could be wrong, but I understand that some songs that are DRM protected will not play on devices it was not 'originally' downloaded too. The file may show up, but some quirky bit flips and says 'No play'.

     

    Are you saying that manually searched songs will play?

  10. Yeah, make sure about the Tow package, maybe check the -un/obvious things like AWD vs FWD. Maybe it has Audiphile Stereo. 2007 model vs 2008? You can have dealership take out Tow package.

     

    I ordered my own edge 2.5 weeks ago, and they told me I'd have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery. :(

  11. I'm pretty sure if you install a new stereo sync will no longer work, it's all integrated in to the factory stereo so if you remove it then it will no longer work.

     

    Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right. I actually placed my Edge order yesterday and I had a conversation with my sales assoicate and fleet manager. They both 'believe' that SYNC won't work with aftermarket stereo's because of the intergration. Sad thing was no one was 100% positive even at the dealership. They seemed to be a little under informed about SYNC in general, and to be honest I'm a little disapointed with the SYNC website FAQ's. Not too much 'techie' info there either.

     

    Needless to say, I went ahead and got the Audiophile/Sync package anyway. Looks like I'll have to live with a few limitations for a while, or until I can afford to retro-fit the whole stereo system at a later date.

     

    While a step up in many ways from my current 11 year old custom car stereo, its also a step backwards due to too much tech dependant integration in newer models these days.

     

    The reason I went with SYNC right off the bat, it will work with my Zune player and LG VX cell phone from day one. But I really like my XM service right now and my 2x 10" Kenwood subs and my Sony Xplode headunit :cry:

  12. Have a second question regarding the Audiophile system.

     

    My current XM display is very crisp with Channel Number, Song Title, and finally Artist info. I don't know how many times when I drive, I hear a song I like and I get both the song name and artist.

     

    On the stock picture in the 2008 brochure, the Audiophile stock head unit shows a single line of text. Do you get both Song and Artist name to scroll by on this? What exactly do you see?

  13. I will be custom ordering a new 2008 Edge this week and have a question regarding the stereo/sync setup.

     

    While I am interested in the upgraded 9 speaker audiophile system (w/ Sirius) in conjunction with SYNC...Will SYNC (w/ Bluetooth) work with another stereo if I decide to change stereos down the line?

     

    Currently I already have an XM pre-paid account in my current car. If I decide to go to Circuit City or Best Buy and get say a SONY or Panasonic stereo with XM (or Sirius), will this affect my factory installed SYNC?

     

    I was thinking of going third party stereo so I can add my own amp and sub after the fact, but wondered if this rendered SYNC or its steering media controls useless.

     

    Anyoen have ideas? :banghead:
