  1. +1 on the Battery Tenders. Been using them for years on bikes, lawn tractors, etc. Friend of mine had the same battery in his bike for 7 years. It was still working when he changed it out (we were getting ready to go to the Grand Canyon and he changed it out "just because").

  2. They could satisfy me by making a navigation system that knows how to navigate -and that means recognizing coordinates! If everything is aimed at the "average" user, is that why MFT gets no better than average reviews? There is a lot of good in MFT but it has a ways to go before anyone could call it "very good" or "excellent" and that's what I'd like to call it for my sake and that of Ford in selling more cars.

    Just curious...

Who offers a nav system you like?

  3. We bought our '11 SEL based upon ride and (lack of) road noise. We've had ZERO issues with MFT. Consumer Reports stated that they based their reliability rating on the MFT issues, not mechanical issues. From what I'm hearing, the MFT issues are quickly being resolved. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

  4. Waldo is right. In the "old days" the first change was important, and was noted in the owner's manuals. Some manufacturers shipped the vehicles with break-in oil in them. Machining of parts is light-years beyond what it was a generation ago. I had a Super Coupe that I couldn't wait to change the oil in. At about 5k miles it started burning oil. The dealer told me that the rings were not seating properly for some reason. :shades: They put in break-in oil for 1000 miles. Problem solved. Trust them, they know.

  5. I had a problem with one of our openers (an older one), called the help number listed in the owners manual, and they walked me through the procedure. Seeing it was an older one, I had to hold a button down for a longer period of time, don't remember when, or which button. Give them a call, They were very helpful.I had a problem with one of our openers (an older one), called the help number listed in the owners manual, and they walked me through the procedure. Thanx. You got me to thinking. After researching both the Chamberlain and HomeLink websites I found my problem. If your unit has been "married" to another opener (in my case a Genie), you must hold down the two outside buttons on the HomeLink for about 20 seconds ('til it stops blinking) to clear the memory. After doing this I was able to program the Chamberlain per the instructions. :hyper:

From what I read, a non-rolling code opener will work just fine (fewer steps to programming).

  6. Our '11 SEL celebrated it's 2nd birthday with us on Nov 4th (V-6 FWD, MFT). I guess we're lucky to be in the seemingly vast majority of folks who've had none of the problems I've read about here.

We just got back from a 1700mi round-trip to Florida & averaged 26.5mpg (could have done better if I'd kept it below 75). My wife usually drives 8mi round-trip to work and back & averages 21mpg (no hwy). When I drive it around town, I get the same (usually better) results. We've had zero issues with MFT, original or upgrade. We've found the vehicle smooth, extremely quiet and comfortable.

It would appear that our Edge is on the same path as our '02 Escape XLT AWD. It has been so reliable that I just had it repainted rather than trade it in for a new one. I REALLY like the new ones, but this one has gotten us around through two blizzards and ten years without a hiccup. I think I've become emotionally attached to it.
