  1. Ok. Thanks for the info. I did a bit of research while waiting, and yeah, pretty common. I had noticed a very slight stutter at idle, which is now gone....might be my imagination, but I think throttle response is slightly better too. So I'm happy.

I see that replacing it myself would have cost less than my 100 deductible for ESP. Lol. Oops. Oh well, an hour sitting in waiting room playing on phone is rare so no biggie.

    Thanks again for responses

  2. Hello.

Brought 2012 limited to ford for regular oil change. Upon re entry of vehicle, notice check engine light on (never on before). They scan and determine needs purge regulation valve. Opinions? Facts?

    74,500 miles. Very regularly maintained.

  3. As a recent supply chain major, the more I learned about Toyotas obsession with CRM (cust relation mgmt), lean manufacturing, and TQM (total quality management), the more i leaned their way. In my opinion, ford is the most advanced here in the states, but none of our firms are as far along.

I can literally "feel" the difference in the entire car buying/maintaining process with ford vs Toyota.

  4. Hello jacksprat,

First of all, to be upfront, I am no where near as knowledgable in regards to the edge as a lot of the contributors on this forum. I do very little actual work on the vehicle. I pretty much just have Ford house maintain it as per the manual (2012 edge limited).

    But, my two cents:

The edge Limited interior and ride feels of higher quality than other manufacturers similar offerings. Have nothing but love for the vehicle itself. But, the service department at two different ford houses in this area both have bad attitudes. Probably not the standard, but in my experience, ford house service sucks.

We also have a 2014 crew max tundra....The service we receive at the Toyota house is like no other. Total pleasure to deal with them. Loaner cars for just about anything that takes longer than an hour.

Probably not significant to all, but my wife and I both work very hard during the week, and I simply do not enjoy working on cars. Luckily, we can afford to pay someone to do it correctly.

I could give more examples in regards to my perceived differences between ford and Toyotas business practices, but put simply, our next car to replace the edge will be greatly influenced by Toyotas superior service (on sales and service dept side).

  5. Hello

    Apologies for delayed response.

    Thanks for input!

I watched the video, and while the process doesn't look too difficult, I simply don't have the time, so I think I will just take the edge to ford house on Wednesday to have the process done.

In regard to driving style; no towing and no hard city driving....but we do have a half mile dirt road driveway (live on a farm). I suppose this may be dumb question, but will that dust find its way into the AT fluid?

As of now, I am leaning towards getting it done just to be safe.

Even the manual says I am not even halfway to it being due, and that color change is normal and doesn't necessarily mean the fluid needs to be changed, but better safe than sorry I supposse.

Hey, I am sure I could search around online, but dies anybody know the exact ATFluid type, and capacity of the 2012 transmission? Curious how much materials would cost me if I did the process myself. IE exactly what kind of margin is the ford house gaining in the deal? Lol.

  6. Hello

    Looking for opinions/advice

    2012 fwd edge limited

    63,500 miles

Dealer says ATF should be changed....manual states fluid change should be done at 150,000

Fluid isn't perfect, but not bad....just less pink than new.

Normal driving....no towing and no long stop and go driving.

What do you guys think? They just trying to make a sale or go ahead and get it done? It's $170.00

Maybe worth it for peace of mind?

    Thanx!!!!

  7. I have the printout at home but won't be there until Thursday. Just dig around in this site. I haven't had a slip since the work was done.

Kinda funny; they acted like surely I was just dumb customer while I explained. Then I pulled out the TSB printout and they all the sudden they were like , "oh THAT transmission slip". Lol.

I am not impressed with fords service guys. They all act like they are doing you a favor to fix the 30,000 dollar car that's under warranty and messing up. We have a toyota tundra also; in my experience, toyota service shops are 100 times better than ford. Like the edge but probably done with ford because of their after sale service.
