  1. How about MLFT - My Lazy Friggin Touch

I have to admit, my has been almost flawless, a couple of hiccups, basically ok.

    Me too, knock on wood.

I'm reluctant to upgrade to the latest MFT version... ever since I bricked a laptop by installing the most recent BIOS update (as recommended by the manufacturer!) I have subscribed to the maxim of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  2. If you top it off very slowly in an effort to put in as much fuel as possible you run the risk of adding fuel to your vapor removal system and not into your tank. This can result in an expensive repair down the road. I do not have personal experience with this but I have read that this may be a real risk.

    Whaaaa?

    Is this for real?

I was in North Dakota over the weekend and when I got to Fargo I had roughly 45 mi to empty. I was a bit surprised when the tank clicked off after a short time, so I kept adding more and more blessedly cheap US gas... it must have clicked a good 10 times or so and I was able to keep adding more each time without spilling a drop.

This extra fuel was going in my vapor removal system?!?

  3. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/9321-new-grill-and-license-plate-bracket/

This is what I did. $150 and 2-3 hours taking my time. Enjoy.

That looks fantastic... I bought my Edge in a province without front plates (therefore no front plate holder). When I brought it home I had to get it done in a hurry without really giving any thought as to how to do it, so I took it to a dealership where they mounted the standard holder to the front end for $50. The cost and the look are OK, but I really wish the plate was a little more out of the way like how you did it. Not having the clunky plastic holder makes for a cleaner look.

Oh well, now I'll be better prepared for the next time.

  4. Seeing that I haven't noticed a thread on this topic I thought I'd start one. (If it isn't kosher to start threads about rumours, then please accept my apologies mods!)

An image of the redesigned 2015 Ford Edge has apparently been leaked in a corporate presentation. You can see photos of it here: http://autoya.info/perhaps_new_ford_edge_2014_2015/

The redesign is probably not that far off from what anyone was expecting... in much the same way that the Escape resembles the Fusion, the Edge looks like it's being brought closer to the Taurus in appearance. It's not a bad look but IMO the Edge will no longer be quite as distinctive in the Ford lineup... only the Flex will really stand apart after this redesign.

What is especially interesting is that a number of websites discussing the 2015 Edge have mentioned the strong likelihood that the new Edge will not have a V6. Just a 4 and a 4-Ecoboost. Apparently (and again, this is purely rumour at this point), if you want a 6 you will have to step up to the MKX.

I have to admit that I like the V6 Edge and if I could only get a 4 then it would have made me that much more inclined to just go with an Escape. I find it an interesting move by Ford if that is in fact the direction they go.

  5. I rented an Explorer for my next vacation to see how it stacks up against the Edge.

Explorer looks not bad but frankly I'm not sure there is really any compelling reason to buy one unless you need that third row of seating. If you need a very powerful vehicle for pulling big trailers, it would probably make more sense to step up to the Expedition... but then looking at pictures, the Expedition remind me of the pre-makeover Ford Escapes... kind of blah and outdated.

I will keep an open mind when driving the Explorer through Arizona but to my mind Edge hits the sweet spot for size, style and price.

  6. My last vehicle was a Nissan Murano and the manual recommended premium (91), although it would accept lower octane fuel. You could really notice a difference in performance between premium vs. regular... unquestionably a difference in acceleration.

By contrast, just out of curiosity my last fillup for my Edge was premium. I could not notice any kind of difference in performance whatsoever. Needless to say I'll be going back to regular unleaded, which should make my wallet happier.

  7. Probably a program car.

That's how I landed mine. There were a few 2013 Edge SELs with 10 to 20 thousand KMs (roughly 6 to 13 thousand MI) on sale at various dealerships in Western Canada at very appealing prices, roughly $26,000 per. After talking to the dealers, the one thing they all had in common was being former Mary Kay cars. Needless to say I scooped one up.

What I didn't understand is why Mary Kay would get rid of them so soon??

  8. Sorry... Poor proof reading on my part. I went to the dealership to take the car for a test drive on my own and it had something like 25 km on it. It was just off the truck - I had to take the plastic off the steering wheel. When I brought it back to the dealership it had around 75 on it but when I picked it up two days later it had over 100 additional kilometres on it. I didn't quiz them on it... I just wanted to get out of there.

I certainly don't like the idea of someone joyriding around in my brand new car.

That seems very excessive IMO. It almost sounds like one of the dealership employees decided to take it home to run some weekend errands.

I rented a Mustang last summer that had 2.3 mi on it when I drove out of the rental agency parking lot. That's closer to what I would expect when buying a new car.

  9. I recently bought a 2013 Edge from a Chrysler dealership, and the six-month trial expired a couple of weeks into my ownership.

I had a chance to fiddle around with SiriusXM while on the 12-hour drive home from the dealer, but because I went on vacation right after buying the Edge I didn't really get a chance to see if I actually wanted to become a long-term subscriber.

Does anyone know if there are any promos where a used car buyer can get a Sirius and/or XM trial for a month or two? Or failing that, at least a discounted introductory price? I saw the free six months for used car buyers in another thread, but that seemed to be just for buyers in the USA. Do any Canadian buyers have experience with this?

I suppose I could just pony up for the regular monthly fee, but with all the promos and offers floating around out there I thought I'd at least ask to see if anyone knows of one that might be relevant to my situation.

  10. I looked high and low in Canada and the US for my Edge (searching autotrader.ca and cars.com) and I was unable to find a better deal in the US than I could at home. I ended up buying in Alberta, where I was able to get an excellent price on a 2013 SEL FWD with 15,000 kms.

In my experience, the higher upmarket you go, the more savings there are to be realized by going to the US. It would probably be worth it for a MKX, but apparently not for an Edge.

  11. Funny that CR recommends the Murano as an alternative. After spending over $5K to replace the AWD transmission in my old Murano (the latest in a line of repairs), don't tell me about Nissan reliability.

Early indications of my new Edge are very positive. I have no trouble whatsoever with MFT. I think it's awesome and I don't get why CR has such a hate-on for it.

  12. I think crossovers are always going to be seen to some extent as a "wife car" because quite often they are used as family haulers. But that said the Edge is one of the more masculine looking crossovers out there.

The only cars that are girlier than what I would consider driving are Volkswagens (especially the cars as compared to SUVs). Beetle, Jetta, Passat, etc. - very girly! Audis are a bit like that too... some of the older TTs out there look like really souped-up VW Beetles!

  13. A minor one for me would be to have some soft vinyl or leather on the driver/passenger door windowsills. Quite often when I drive I put my left elbow on the sill, and my last couple vehicles had a soft surface as compared to my Edge SEL where it's hard plastic (appears that way in the Limited and Sport too?). Not a huge deal but the soft surface keeps my elbow from getting sore!

  14. Thanks, guys!

Very nice looking, enjoy. About the only thing I would do is to remove the dealers "tag" on the liftgate. I hate when dealers put these on.

Yeah, I agree with you. I'm going to try and get that off... never done it before but I would imagine there must be some threads devoted to the topic here.

Those "tags" are getting more and more obnoxious... around here, a lot of dealers will put one on the body, one on the rear glass and then a license plate frame to boot (I got rid of that already)...

  15. Thanks guys!

I downloaded the pics from the dealer's website (I'm not much of a photog) and will post them up later.

It was a little daunting to fly out one-way to buy a car sight unseen, but the deal was good and the fact that it was pretty new and coming from a dealer (albeit not a Ford dealer) gave me a little extra confidence. Things have worked out very well so far. I really like the Edge and the smooth ride, probably even more so than the Murano at this point.

I have to admit I was a little put off by the whole AWD experience with the Nissan when the drive shaft went, so I thought simpler might be better. Frankly I never noticed very much of a difference in terms of wintertime handling as between the AWD Murano and the FWD Escape, so I felt less compelled to fork out extra for AWD.

Between my experience with the 2008 Escape and the Fords I have rented recently, my perception of the brand has really changed as compared to a decade ago. When I see some of the prices out there for SUVs, I feel like I got excellent value for the money with my Edge.

    Cheers!
