  2. Hi Charly,

    Here is the VIN 2FMDK39C87BA28532.

I work for the dealership, we are trying to get some info for the customer because they know the unit was built in November and can't understand how 3 months later it's still not ready to be shipped. As of today, the status in Conceps still shows "To Storage".

This is the only unit we have been able to get built. Customers come in every day to see the Edge and we have to tell them we are still waiting for our first one. Our 2nd and 3rd units are also pre-sold but still unscheduled, hopefully they get scheduled soon. Then one day we might actually get one built for stock!

    Thanks for your help.

    Brian

  3. Charly, have you heard anything new? Ours is still in storage and now our Ford rep is suggesting it might be another 3-4 weeks. This unit will be over 3 months old by the time it arrives.

    Thanks,

    Brian

Virtually all units have been retrofitted..there may still be some that need to be re-rolled but they are NOT in storage...all units are on site.

    Have you got a VIN # ?

Or cancel it and start over..

  4. jrod,

Could you check on the status of this one again on Monday? VIN is 2FMDK39C07BA70872

  5. As of today, our 1st unit is still "In Storage". Does anybody from the plant know if the retrofits are close to being done? I don't know how much longer this customer's patience will last (they ordered it at the beginning of August and know it was built in November). I can't blame them for not being able to understand why it is taking so long. This customer was so excited about the Edge and had already decided to order one when it was confirmed the Edge was going from concept to production.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I believe all units have been corrected..but some still need to go back through the "rolls" test..this is supposed to be completed this weekend or next.

  6. Even though StompSteed couldn't unravel the story any further, there are difficulties still remaining between the ACTRA folks and the TV techs over at 'Deal or No Deal Canada', so until the whole thing gets over with enjoy something in a lighter yet similar vein {Batten, Barton, Durstine, Osborn - Omnicom}

What the hell are you talking about?

  7. My arithmetic may be suspect but I cannot understand why there are such long delays for Edge's and MKX's. Here's my presumed logic.

There are about 4600 Ford/Lincoln dealers in USA/Canada. Assume 4 vehicles per dealer for inventory this is 18,400.

Ford sold and delivered to retail 3060 Edge/MKX's in December 2006, none in Oct or Nov. to speak of.

Oakville starting building about Oct 9 2006.

They have been building for 16 weeks and theoretically they can build 4000 per week or 64000 vehicles. In the real world as they ramp up, production is less than optimal and I'd say they could produce at an average of 65% or about 42,000 vehicles.

So they have 42,000 vehicles to allocate.

20,000 were retail preorders and I put the 3000 sold in December in this amount.

    18,400 for dealer inventory.

This totals 38,400 vehicles or 3600 less than what I think were produced. So by my logic right about now they are ahead of the game, Ford says they estimate to sell about 100,000 Edges and 30,000 MKX's in 2007. This is about 11,000 per month, well below what Oakville can produce. Again they should be ahead of the sales demand or are retail sales orders are far out stripping estimates???

I know this could be all nonsense but maybe someone can help. Thx.

We have not been building 4000 a week for 16 weeks, the 4000 a week figure was only recently achieved. All vehicles that were retro-fitted still must go through the rolls test, and I believe that can only be done on weekends.

  8. Thanks! I'm curious...Are they even building any vehicles that have been ordered within the last month (you may not know that...but thought I'd ask)? The MKX was a priority 10 X-Plan order, ordered from a small dealership (which I hear allocation does not apply to the small ones)...so I would think that if they were building recent orders it would be one of them, or it would at least be serialized.

    Do you have a VIN?

  9. Maybe someone from Oakville could answer these questions and thus help me understand why it takes so long for my dealer to get the VIN for my MKX..now six weeks and counting.

    1. How many Edge's and MKX's are produced per week?

    2. Are the two models manufactured simultaneously?

    3. Do you manufacture different paint colors and options at the same time or do you wait until, say you have x number of orders for copper Edge's and then manufacture them?

    4. Are the refits complete?

    5. Is the dealer inventory build complete?

    6. Are there factory tours??

    Thanks.

    1) About 4000

    2)Yes

    3)Yes............no

    4)One week left

    5)Dunno....doubt it

    6)No

  10. Hello Robertlane (Robert?) As i'm sure you've seen in other forums, there are already a number of dealers trying to gouge customers based on the demand and short supply of Edges. I wonder if there might be away to get Venom a pin for the Friends and Neighbors Plan. Since every invoice on the A/X/Z Plans go back to Ford he'll not only get the best price, there's no way the dealer can rip him off.

There is no way that the dealer is charging him for a non existant BAMR...someone is confused..

  11. I hear that those CEP powerline workers are still being ignored. After ratification the snearing returned. Once again, their concerns were spurned at plant level, and shunned at corporate level: the rebellion mounted. It's slowly working its way back out into the public space. It clearly looks like a protest / boycott video short is under way. The working title is "Edge or No Edge!"

Here's a bit of the transcript:

I was a fool. I worked tons of overtime to help the company out, Way too much OT. Along the way I lost my family and my friends. I became feelingless numb. Now their trying to take away my future. Sure I'll fight back. It don't matter any more. I got nothing left to lose.

Scheduled for release February 1, 2007, the clips will be online this holiday season.

Thats OLD news.......and your cause is falling on deaf/disinterested ears...

There are hundreds still on layoff at OAC...you guys are the least of our worries.

  12. All I want to know "is the front suspension problem fixed?" and "is the rear suspension fixed". I realize it's a brand new vehicle but I wouldn't want this kind of problem at 70 MPH on the freeway. These seem like major problems but most likely this was the cause of the delay?

    ALL issues are resolved..

  13. the first (major) issue that i was aware of on the ford edge had to do with the front suspension. this issue has shut ford's lines down, though i am unaware as to whether or not they've had to pull vehicles due to it. they probably have.

the second (even more major) issue that i was aware of was a part of the rear suspension. this one i know for sure they have had to pull already built vehicle's for.

i am aware that there are things in the works for both. the second issue is all but remedied; the second issue has a resolution. the first does, however it's not been taken, and despite all measures put in place the part is still shit and whether ford is aware of it or not there are still bad parts and there still will be bad parts on vehicles.

And you know this how? The rear suspnsion concern is being corrected and NO vehicles will be sent out faulty.

  14. No kidding!!!

I got tired of waiting (4 months!!!) and after my dealer told me my Edge was built, but sitting in a holding area "for god knows how long", I bought an '06 Fully loaded, V-8 Explorer, 4x4 for $30,500 delivered, (from NJ, I live in Boston) I got a better deal, less $$ and.................I HAVE THE CAR NOW!!!!

    Way to go Ford!!!!

    Another late, late, late release!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At 10 million dollars a day in losses, by delaying this vehicle, I think you dropped the ball!!??????????

    BWTHDIK!!!!!

Whatever, they still got your money.

  15. Some interesting comments....

I have decided not to try and buy a EDGE this year. With all of the delays and the fact that it is a new model, new engine, new trans, I have a really bad feeling that this new model is likely to be full of bugs and I don't want a recall queen to deal with right now....

I think I'll give it a year to see how it holds up and see if there are any recalls... Lets face it, a little time is the best insurance right now...

I am also hoping that Ford decides to build an Escape/Mariner with the new 3.5L V6 and new 6 speed trans. I think that this combo would be a lot more fun and have much higher performance. The Edge looks good and has some nice features, but so far, it seems way to heavy and very well may have some significant braking issues....

However, I am looking forward to hearing how you guys/gals like your new toy.... Good Luck....

Will the Escape /Mariner not have the same engine/tranny your concerned about?

I believe this is probably the BEST time to buy an Edge/MKX they are hand built. (sorta) ;-)

    Thanks for the good wishes

Right you are Charly. Sounds like invisible must be one of our suppliers. OAC is in the process of setting up a repair line in Body2 that will be refitting 10,000 plus Edges -24/7 til they're done.

Well there's at least one supplier I would not want to be.

  16. I can tell you that production has been shut down at least 3 times now due to a particular suspension component failing. Assembled vehicles have had to be disassembled due to this faulty component. The component has been redesigned in an attempt to remedy the issue and controls are in place to ensure faulty parts never make it to vehicles, however the failure is one that can come up at any given time, at any point through it's life cycle. Parts that have been known to be good have failed less than 24h later.

I can also tell you that another suspension/drivetrain component, which was within Ford's own spec, has also been found to be failing and is currently (as of December 7, 2006 - the day they supposedly started shipping to dealerships) being disassembled from vehicles to be reworked and reassembled. I am not clear on how the shipped vehicles will be handled, however I do not think any of them will leave a dealership until this part has been reworked.

Now, off I go to disappear and attempt to keep my identity to myself - Ford themselves don't neccesarily know the aforementioned part still has failures...and I dont think they want anyone to know about the new issue...Thankfully, I don't work for Ford ;-)

Ford knows about the concern..it is being corrected as you read this post.

  17. I was beginning to think you were abducted by extraterrestrials or something. Here's hoping your Edge is completed and awaiting shipment!

The Ford Rep was at my dealer yesterday and checked on the status of my order while she was there. Everything was right on schedule and my Edge is to be built this week.

We'll be happily driving our Edges in no time!

    May start shipping today.
