Not sure of the exact cause but it was there on all the AWD edges i test drove. I have noticed the sound on most AWD vehicles i drive too. I think it s a normal noise caused by the front drive train.
RWD vehilces whine but you usually cant hear it due too the exahust and distance from the drive. If you can hear it, its bad.
If it were to be the belt assembly or PS pump it would be RPM or load dependent not speed dependent. Speed dependent points me to something behind the motor.
If its too loud keep gettign it checked on.

My wife and I just bought a 2008 ford edge limited. I am here to learn!
I'm usually into diesel trucks and mustangs, but we needed a family oriented vehicle for the baby on the way.
Im located in Washington state. I dont really have plans do do anything to the Edge until beyond adding gas mileage.
Anything else just ask.

Im probably gonna be picking up an S4 later this month. My S2 is crapping out, it was by far the worst phone I have ever had
