  1. Hey guys,

This is my first post here. I figured this would be a good place to ask these questions since my local dealer doesn't know squat.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge Sport fully loaded (so with the big sun roof).

The roof does not have any racks or anything.

I'm looking to get roof racks for either of the following:

    1. Snowboard

    2. Ski

    3. Bike

I also plan on having it professionally installed.

Can anyone pin point me to the best racks out on the market right now? I have absolutely no clue what to get.

    Thanks, I appreciate it!!

Go to RACK SOLID in Santa Monica, CA - The BEST ! They installed my rack system on my 2013 Edge SEL….. Use: Surfboards

  2. So far B) Love my leased 2013 Edge SEL but the overall "Fit and Trim" needs improvement. Accepted as my lease costs are way down and my mpg is way up.. and with the White Platinum Tri Coat including appearance package......... the overall look keeps me stoked. [Former BMW driver for many years so getting use to this has been a slow process but accepted.]

  3. Going on four months with my Leased 2013 Ford Edge SEL White Tri-Coat Platinum with Appearance Package.. Thule With Aero Bars Surf Rack System... Los Angeles County but spend my time surfing @ Huntington Beach North and South Side.

  4. In my humble opinion from all the research on Ford Vehicles from Forums, Reviewers, Social Media Pages etc I am sure glad I have leased my 2013 Ford Edge SEL 3.5 engine - Platinum White Tri-Coat with Appearance Package. 36 months and out to either stay with the Edge as I really like the over all design or move on.

............ Now do not get me wrong so far after 3 months I love this vehicle and my only complaint is Ford needs to Step UP their quality control in the "Fit and Trim" area.

Just not convinced that "owning" is a smart move. But to be fair I found, again in my opinion, FORD really needs to re-think who is awarded dealerships as the majority of complaints from customers is towards dealerships........ The "Car Salesmen Mentality" seems to over power the "Customer Service Mentality".

Right now @ 1755 miles I am pleased with the 16.9 mpg which includes mostly short distance [10 to 20 mile roundtrips - residence to destination to residence - city driving. And Freeway drives from LA to Huntington Beach California to surf - about 88 miles round trip.

  5. 2013 Ford Edge Sel with Appearance Package > Just slightly over 1,300 miles @ 16.7 mpg 95% Short Distant City Driving ..... So far I am remaining positive.

I believe the 20" wheels keeps the 'mpg' from climbing faster. Only a guess.

And since it has been extremely hot in the LA area the air conditioner has been on more then normal.

  6. With all these positive reviews.... Maybe Ford Motor Company should contract this dealership to go around the USA and teach other dealers how it is done..... As from what I read on various sites the majority of dealerships have so many bad reviews...

Crossing my fingers for when my 2013 Ford Edge SEL is due for its first service.... As I have two dealers in my area - Sunrise Ford, North Hollywood, CA and Galpin Ford in the valley and both appear to have more bad reviews then good ones...

  7. 1083 miles ... So far I am pleased... HUGE transition going from driving nothing but BMW's [ 2- 5 Series, 1 - 7 Series, 2- X5's and last one was a certified 535xi Sports Wagon over the years, Yep I am an Old Guy ].

Now I am researching dealers near by for when I need service. After reading the FB sites from Ford Motor Company, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus, Ford Edge and this FANTASTIC informative blog] I am nervous, in my opinion, the dealers seem more focused on selling vehicles then servicing. Maybe spoiled as BMW [south Bay BMW] service over the years was beyond exceptional.. Even when I had on my last vehicle a bee hive inside the battery area that basically shut down my entire computer grid. The factory Stepped UP and covered the majority of the repairs. It was going to be a $4k plus cost and I only had to pay $1,800.00.

The two dealers close to my area are Sunrise Ford and Galpin Ford and both of them have more bad reviews regarding service then good ones.

I did perform my due-dilligence on overall service costs for my 36 month lease and it appears extremely reasonable for the lease period.

Just hoping the Ford Gods are good to me :-) .... Right now since I must of surfaced in their system as a former BMW customer the mail does not stop with letters, thank you's, gift card for $100 etc.

  8. 2013 Edge Sel, Tri-Coat Platinum with Appearance Package..... I had THULE racks installed with Aero Bars [the silver like bars look great.. In my opinion a nice accent....... No noise ... I either surf with a 9'0" or 8'0" - Easy on with ONE Thule strap.. Tight and no freeway noise at all.

Installed by RACKSOLID in Santa Monica, California. Under $500.. but well worth the cost... Dealer said racks were not available for the Edge with Vista Roof.... Then the other dealer quoted me a price that exceeded $600

  9. 2013 Ford Edge Sel with 20" Rims [Appearance Package].... Currently 1012.01 miles... Burn 89 Mobil or Chevron...I have only used one tank of 91 and have not used 87 at all.... Fuel Gauge shows I am at 17.1 mpg... Drove 276.50 miles from last fill up... City and Freeway Driving....

If I can average 20 mpg plus I will be more then Stoked as my BMW 535xi Sports Wagon which of course required 91 premium never went above 18 / 19 mpg and that was when I was doing more Freeway driving... Mostly 16 mpg in any of our BMW's.

  10. Yeah I really like the 20" rims from the appearance package but got quoted from my local dealer for $3700 without tires. I can get these for $1700 with tires.

My "Sel Appearance Package" was $1,495.00 [All white Grill, Detailed Head and Tail Lights and the 20" Rims With Tires]

    SUNRISE FORD, North Hollywood, CA

  11. New driver of the 2013 Ford Edge Sel with Select Appearance Package... Love the wheels on the 20's... More black exposed then on the Sport 22's....White Platinum Tri Coat.... MFT, and Navigation.. Had Thule Racks installed at RackSolid in Santa Monica for surfing [i did find dealer not knowledgeable about rack systems and I live in CA where it is hard to see a vehicle on the road without some sort of rack system]......... 600 plus miles driven.... One free fill up with delivery of vehicle, One Premium fill up.. and now burning 89.. Averaging 15.5 mpg [mostly city driving] Overall I am very happy We have driven BMWs for over 15 years.. [5 Series, Z4, 7 Series, X5 and last vehicle was a 535 xi Sports Wagon]...Burning premium gasoline was killing me and the mpg was lower on each vehicle then what I am already getting in the Edge. Adjustment from BMW to Ford so far I am fine... BIggest complaint is Ford's "Fit and Trim" work... Definitely not BMW. But I am really stoked on the interior look.. I call it my Industrial look.

Wife drives the new MKZ [Galpin Lincoln] with the ecoboost .. her mpg not as good as mine... But WE are having patience with this...

DEALERSHIP: Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood... Far better deal then what Galpin Ford was offering... but wife got a super deal on her MKZ at Galpin Ford/Lincoln.
