You don't need a relay because HIDs draw less current then regular bulbs.

if not the switch, then likely the motor in the mirror. let them deal with it.

After 2 weeks and replacing the modules and switches they wound up replacing both motors.

Hello, i drive a 2008 Lincoln MKX. Since a few month the right (passenger) side mirror is move every time i push the open door button. I can program the memory operation, but even with new programming the next time the mirror will move somewhere. Sometimes to the end of way till it knock! I tried the second key (with my girlfriends settings) and used mine after that. The Seat and driver side mirror is fine, only the passenger side has his own life!

Some ideas? It´s really annoying to adjust the mirror after open the door - nearly every time.

I had my MKX at the dealer because the mirrors would move a little and stop. After replacing some modules and switches they finally replaced both motors and that took care of it. FWIW, they had the car for 2 weeks trying to figure it out.

You don't need a relay because HID's use less power than regular bulbs. HID's run around 35 watts, regular bulbs are around 50. I installed them on mine and were plug and play. I got the 4300k because i wanted the most light and no blue.

I have an 08 MKX. When you go to adjust the side mirrors (either one) it moves a little and stops. If you take your hand off the joystick and move it again it will move again but only a little. To adjust the mirror you have to play with the stick. The dealer replaced the switch but it still does the same thing.

When i went to pick the vehicle up we went over the repairs and I showed him how it still does the same thing. We checked another MKX and it doesn't do it. The other one worked correctly. He said they will repair it the next time I bring it in.

Any ideas? The dealer may be clueless.

Has anyone had any sucess in upgrading the headlamps in a 2008 Ford Edge,,, I drive in the mouintains a lot and find I am overdriving the OEM installed headlamps.

I put in the HIDs in my MKX. They were $100 on the net. Easy plug and play install. Super bright. I got the 4300k. When you go higher you get blue and less light. But its just a persona preference.

Absolutely! Dealer paint sealer = good "wax" (hopefully) applied by the lowest paid employee...usually untrained.

20 inch chrome wheels are peeling, from the inside, and the passenger side ptu leak, if these are not dealt with in my favour from the dealer i may put it up for sale, super nice car, love it but the fuel economy is garbage.

These are definately defects. You are in the drivers seat. The warranty is on your side. Don't be afraid to go the arbitration. After you fill out the form on-line they call you. Then you put the ball in their court and sit back and relax.

My theory is that Ford has to engineer their system to the products already out in the market. It's like Ford selling a car with a radio that only picked up stations on the upper half of the FM band. You take it to the dealer and they say it's operating like it was designed to.

That doesn't make it right. Like saying it's an Ipod issue when the Ipod was around way before sync. Plus I feel that since Microsoft has designed the sync system and is in competition with Apple / Mac then they purposely made it to have problems with the Ipod.

Just my 2 cents.

I finally went back and had it replaced. Now here is the funny part.

They washed the car before I picked it up. I get the keys from the cashier lady and go to the car. I look at the rear light and it has moisture in it. I call the service guy out and he feels bad. Now they have to order another one.

We started up our 08 Edge after it sat still in the driveway for 2 days, and when I started it, two big clouds of blue smoke came out of both exhausts. :blink: The blue smoke came out for about 6 or 7 seconds, and then switched to normal exhaust colour. Anyone else experience this? We only have 13,000+ km on it, so I can't imagine there's a bad valve seal.... Hasn't done it since, but hasn't been unused as long either.

 

I'll mention it next service visit, but you know, if it's not doing it right then and there....

Sounds like valve seals to me.

What file format to you use to place them on the flash drive? I have an old iPod Shuffle and it doesn't work well with the Sync either. Flash Drives are cheap.

How do you convert your Itunes to MP3"s?

I have an 08 MKX and was washing it the other day and noticed that water is getting behind the light bar on the rear hatch. Has anyone had this problem?

That's what I do. The problem is I should not have to. I'm glad your edge does not do that.

If you don't put it in park you can't get the keys out. WHen the vehicle is parked the auto trans should be in park. That's why they call it "Park".

and yeah I'd accept a repaint by a German, authorized body shop. depending on the replacement time because you're way over there. that's just me, YMMV

My MKX has GOT SYNC

When I play the ipod and select "play all" from the menu it will play all the songs. When I turn the car off and turn it back on it will only play a few until I go into the menu and select "Play all" again. Is this normal?

I am curious if the Solar Tint is protecting against UV rays - or if I should add additional film to protect against UV. I have read on other forums and those people suggest it does - but no mention if it is 99.9% or what specs it protects with.

 

There is a lot of glass on the Edge - are all the windows UV protected?

 

I could not find any solid printed material on this, so if you know where to find it, could you provide it too?

I live in south Florida and have 5 vehicles. I have all of them tinted. This reduces the heat buildup inside and protects the interior from the UV.

On the other hand, you can still order the MKX with a Nav system and no Vista Roof.

Can you get the THX system installed at the dealer?

I wouldn't touch anything unless you're ripping it all out and starting over. The THX system is actually engineered and tuned specifically for each vehicle, and it is an entire system. Replacing pieces of the system would probably not work very well.

 

What is it about the sound that you don't like?

How about an amp on the standard system? Is that a possibility?

Hi katiesdaddy. :D Just as an FYI, so you don't wind up in an un-winnable argument if your MKX part does not come in for another 12 days. Your car would only possibly qualify for a lemon law buy back if they absolutely could not fix the "SYNC" problem after multiple tries.

 

Your MKX is not "Out of Service". "Out of Service" means not drivable at all, or not drivable in a safe manner. You have chosen to leave your vehicle there while the part is on back order. You could just as easily be driving it until the module arrives.

 

In fact, if I were you I would drive my MKX, instead of leaving it in the Dealership lot (even more so since you don't like the loaner). Either way, I respect your right to do as you like.

 

I am only trying to help, as I just do not want you to look silly while insisting that they have to buy back your MKX because it took three weeks to get the "SYNC" module in.

 

Hope they repair it soon.

Good news. I got the car back today. The module was not bad. They told me that they took my module out and put it in another vehicle. It worked in the other vehicle. They then put it back in mine and it started working. Go figure. THis is the first time I got to play with the system and I LOVE IT.

Get this. I got a call from them yesterday to come pick up the vehicle because it was OK to drivel (just like you said) I pull in, drop off the old peoples car, go to the cashier and find that it's not ready. The service manager comes out and say's that ford called him and he needs to take some additional measurements with a USB cord that they won't have until tomorrow (today). Now I'm getting a little mad because I had just spoke to them and they told me to come and get the vehicle.

So I left the vehicle and good thing is they got it working. What fixed it? They have no idea and neither do I. it's just nice to have my NEW vehicle back. It still smells new.

I see that there is an optional radio you can get with 14 speakers! Where the heck do you stuff 14 speakers at in the car. Since I am half deaf anyway the standard system sounds just fine to me.

Hello All , I need help finding the factory code for the door keypad to lock and unlock the doors. The manual says it is on the owners card ,but the Edge was bought used and the card is missing. On my 2007 Taurus i found the code on the control modual under the dash. But no luck on the Edge.Is ther any way to get code without paying dealer $70.00 to but on pc. Thanks for any help!

FYI, on my Excursion the code is on a sticker on the side of the radio. Hope this helps.

What did they give you for a loaner? I hope it was something decent.

 

Glad to see the salesrep is getting involved to try and make things as smooth as possible. Hopefully he realizes any chance of repeat business is riding on how they handle this problem.

 

One of my coworkers had his heated seat die on him two days after delivery. He hasn't taken it in yet and will likely wait until he takes it for the scheduled service. He is less than impressed but these things can happen to even the best vehicle.

It seems it's the SYNC module. They are on backorer. The manager told me that there are about 250 on back order. I do have a loaner. It a Grand Marquis. I don't like it at all. But it get's me where I'm going. I was told yesterday that it may be 2 day's or 2 weeks. I'm leaving the car at the dealer. The Florida lemon law say's that after a car is out of service for 15 days it's a lemon. So far I'm at 4 with 11 to go.

The dealer had to call Ford to get special authorization to replace the module. They are backorderd from Microsoft. Before they authorize the module to be replaced the technician has to verify that a bunch of test steps were performed. I guess only time will tell.

I'll keep you updated.

I just purchased an 08 Edge Limited AWD with Nav, Sirius, and Sync. Everything is perfect except for the steering wheel buttons for voice recognition and phone. These two buttons do not work. The media (other half of the voice recognition button) works fine. Is there an option I need to enable in order for these two buttons to work or is there a problem. Hopefully the dealer can fix this if it is indeed a defect. Thanks!

I took mine to the dealer today for just that problem and they told me that there IS an problem. They don't know what it is yet. They told me a couple more day's maybe. I'll let you know.
