  1. Just wanted to provide an update for those who ‘updated’ from MFT to Sync3.

     

    I purchased a navigation APIM/screen from a 2017 MKZ from LKQ and used the provided MKZ VIN and the APIM Sync Serial Number (ESN) and was able to purchase ($109)and download Navigation Maps Version: NA 1 18. 

     

    The map download did not check the VIN on my 2011 Edge but it did check the ESN. The ESN/APIM must be the same ONE used to purchase online or else the update will not install. 

     

    Those of you who don’t have the VIN of a navigation compatible vehicle appear be out of luck.

    It sounds like the VINs and ESNs will identify actual Sync3 vehicles and units. 

    My Edge is at the shop getting a run in with a parking garage fixed so I can’t get the ESN, but I’ll provide an update as soon as I get the chance. 

  3. I’m at 175k miles on my 2011 SEL and I’ve contemplated this too. Most of my miles (75%) come from highway driving. If you can afford it and really are trying to minimize risk then the safest option. There are several other members who have 300k+ with no issues but there are also others who had the pump fail at 125k miles. I say 200,0000 miles is a nice middle number without necessarily being in borrowed time. 

     

    As as for maintenance that Ive done, replace all of you fluids. Clearly engine oil, but transmission fluid, brake fluid, steering fluid, etc. I just replaced my serpentine belt too. I had an ignition coil go bad 2 months ago and another one just started acting up today so I plan on replacing all 6 of them to avoid any PCM issues down the road. 

     

    Anything else would be based on when items fail or the ride gets rough (ie., suspension components -though I replaced all the shocks/struts at 105k).

  4. I have a 2011 Edge and have considered this as well. The Edge has 156K and has been relatively maintenance free. The only items I replaced that weren't scheduled were the suspension components at 105K and the ride continues to remain smooth.

     

    I called the Ford dealers in my area and got quotes from $1400-1700. Considering the cost and time of a replacement engine, Im thinking I may get the pump replaced around 170-180K. It may not need it, but if I keep the Edge past 250k, it will be peace of mind. I know there are several engines with more than 250k, but there are also several engines that never made it past 150k without a $2500 replacement engine. I figure the middle ground is around 200k.

  5. I can confirm that you will need both parts to install the remote access. I didn't need the security system (CSS) and it only saved me about $6 in insurance, so so gave it disabled.

     

    Benny should be abke to tell you what the newest versions are and then you can self -install like TRMN8TR stated above. Have Levittown activate your remote access once everything is in place.

  6. I switched from an iPhone SE to an iPhone 7 because my SE continued to have connection problems with both MFT and Sync 3. In the past 3 months I have not had an unintentional Bluetooth disconnect.

     

    Mind you I'm jailbroken on iOS 10.1.1 so YMMV, but I think you'll be okay.

  7. Candurin, inputing 213F gives me the correct 2-level heated seat options. Changing the "1" to a "2" gives me a 3 level heated/cooled seat option on the homescreen. Its odd, but that is what my APIM displays.

     

    I also wanted to provide an update on my Instrument Panel Cluster Navigation issues. Last night I updated to my Sync 3 to v3.0 from an non-official update available on a FocusRS forum. It finished installing and booting this morning and it resolved my cluster problems! I can now actually see more than one option listed under Previous Destinations, Favorites, and POI. The update also resolved a problem I thought I had noticed,but wasn't really sure was occurring.

     

    In the Display menu in v2.2, changing the brightness slider never did anything. I always thought, I just wasn't able to see the screen lighten or darken because of the current lighting conditions. After the v3.0 update, I can actually see the brightness decrease and increase in both, the day and night settings.All of my issues are finally resolved! Not that they were major enough to avoid the upgrade to Carplay, especially on a jailbroken iPhone (think Prime Video in motion, Netflix, also Google maps, Waze, and several app options), but the annoyances were frustrating nonetheless.

     

    I guess the lesson to learn is that it is completely possible to have an APIM that is functional yet still have faulty software. If you're on the fence about this, the update is still completely worth the hassle.

  8. That is odd. . . The same numbers should produce the same result.

     

    I wonder if my APIM being from 2017 has anything to do with the diferrence?

     

    Well I kept messing with the numbers tonight and the following is what worked for me. It shows the correct heated seat levels (2) and eliminated a rear climate option that showed in the Climate screen.

    Thanks for help your help Candurin. Even if didn't work exactly for me, it allowed me to focus on one particular number instead of the whole section.
