  1. When is it grinding ?

When you first drive it in the morning and then it stops ? All the time ?

At that mileage I would be taking it in to the dealer you bought it at and ask them to inspect the brakes. It might be contamination on the pad, a bad rotor, calipers not releasing fully. Let them see what they can determine. At worst you will have a document trail if there are later problems. Make sure your work order states exactly what your problem is in YOUR words. Don't let the advisor summarize your wording to something like "brake noise-rear".

Its happening now everytime I press the brakes. With only 16000 miles on the odometer don't you think its a bit early for the brake pads to be worn down?? I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow. I hope its under warranty. Thanks for your all your help!

  2. I had the same problem. Its your Transmission Tranfer case. Its leaking. Take it to your Ford dealer and have him REPLACE IT not try and tighten it. They tried that for me and it didnt work. They had to order a new one. I still have a bit of the smell and I am bringing it back to have them look at it once again.

    Hope this helps!

  3. I have exactly the same issue with my '08 Limited and it is in the dealership now for that same problem; I have to yell at it! After speaking with the tech he is telling me that it is normal and I believe that there is something wrong with it. Additionally after hitting the SYNC command button I get a weak, crackly voice at first and then the voice gets much louder and clearer after it hears me. I am not happy with how it is working and am trying to research the issue.. :banghead:

Hey, let me know how that goes. I would like to know if I should do the same thing and bring it in to the dealer.

  4. Try speaking directly at the rear view mirror - that's where the microphone is.

Oh, I do alright. Its just that sometimes if either the BAMR is open or the A/C is on, SYNC cant hear me clearly and I have to repeat myself or hit the steering button again and yell my command louder. I thought that maybe there was a continuous problem with other SYNC users and if an update for this was needed and available yet.

  5. Does anyone have the same problem? I have to talk extremely loud to my SYNC when my A/C is on. This is extremely embarrasing to the other occupants in my vehicle when I need to talk to SYNC and embarrassing to me when drivers of other vehicles are next to me at a light and staring at me yelling in my car "PHONE!" "CALL HOME!" :banghead::censored:

  6. I have a 2008 Limited in Redfire Metallic Paint. Things I love about my Edge:

BAMR--On a nice day, the sky is the limit!!

SYNC- Its making me lazy! LOL!

18' CHROME CLAD RIMS --WHEN CLEAN THEY STAND OUT AND GET ATTENTION!

Engine power--GUN YOUR EDGE AND IT GOES!! Especially in the higher revs!!

Reclining Rear Seats -- My friends love going for long drives in my Edge because they can just sit back, recline their seats, and gaze up through my BAMR at the Sky!

  7. Since we are all sharing, here are the specs on my 2008 EDGE LIMITED AWD:

    Redfire Metallic

    Black Leather Interior

    DVD NAVIGATION

    SYNC

18" Inch Chrome Clad Wheels (Second set, first ones stolen)

    McGuard RIM locks

    Cargo Management System

    Sirius Satellite Radio

    Heated Seats w/3 Memory

    Vista BAMR

    Flex seating package

9 speaker Audiophile stereo system w/6 cd changer

I wish I had gotten the Power Liftgate but my dealer had none in stock with the Navigation system. So far at 1000 miles it looks as if I am only getting 10.8 mpg. I sure hope it gets better with time. The Brakes do suck a bit. Especially if you work them hard. They fade quite fast and the travel is way too long for a vehicle weighing 4200 lbs. Engine is strong though with some nice pull in the higher revs. Whats the deal with Ford not putting a Cargo Cover in the LIMITED???? I had a Ford Escape Limited before this one and it had it! Now I have to shell out $150 bucks to get one????? Ridiculous. The Keys remind me of when I was in Public school and they used to give you the bathroom key and it was attached to a big piece of plywood so that it wouldnt get lost. I cant even put the spare in my wallet because it would prevent it from closing! Sheesh. :redcard:

My car gets a lot of looks which makes me feel good but watch out for THIEVES and by all means GET LOCKS FOR YOUR RIMS!!!

  8. :happy feet: Ok heres the latest and final update:

Its been 3 weeks since thieves decided that my OEM Chrome Clad wheels are what they wanted and needed. I am finally happy to proclaim that I have gotten my car back!!!! I am soo f..kin happy!! I have been driving a Chevy Malibu (piece of junk) rental and when I got into my Edge, it was like going from old beat up sneakers to new Air Jordans! I miss the power, and comfort. I missed my Vista roof and Sync/Navigation!! But most of all, I just missed looking at it.

Now, does anyone know where I can get Wheel Locks??? :hyper:

  9. Discount Tire has the Gorilla wheel locks for $20.00 to $25.00. I went last Saturday to Discount Tire to put a set on my 18" OEM rims and they were having a one day sale on the Gorilla wheel locks for $5.00!!!! Of course the store I went to did not have the correct ones in stock. They let me pay for them there and I went to a different location about 5 miles in the opposite direction to pick them up. When I got there, they even installed them for me. Sure beats the $45.00 price Ford wanted for wheel locks.

What is the location of that store? Is it in Brooklyn, NY?

  10. Umm, don't get the OEM wheels and tires?

    You could save a bundle.

Also, our A4 has one of those tilt features, right in the door pocket next to the gas door release, but we have a base (ugly 16 inch wheels) and I'd love it if someone we're to steal those, so I can replace them with 18's.

Well, if I owned the vehicle instead of leasing it I wouldnt have gotten the OEM wheels but for those of you who have leased a car before know that when it comes time to turning the car in at lease end, the Manufacturer can tend to get very particular about what the car looks like. I am not going to give a Manufacturer really nice rims, even if my Insurance company paid for most of them. I'd rather just give him what he initially gave me when I got the lease from the beginning. :stats:

  11. Ok so now its coming up on 2 weeks this Friday since my EDGE was raped of its tires and rims. I just got the final total on how much the total amount this is going to be. $4452!! This doesnt even include the Wheel Locks! My Insurance company is paying $3952 after my deductible. Did I ask for my rims to be taken??? NO!! Now I have to fork over $500 and I didnt even do anything!! WHAT A LIFE!!!

GET WHEEL LOCKS AND A ALARM SYSTEM!! :banghead::censored:

  12. Sorry about that man. That sucks...and Ford/your insurance aren't making it any easier. FYI, I'm 99% sure the Explorer and Edge share the same wheels. The new standard SE wheels are a split 6-spoke design that looks identical to the Explorer/Sport Trac wheels...

The Service Manager at the Ford dealer said that if I tried to put Explorer wheels on my AWD Edge the brakes would automatically lock up and the calipers would bend. He very sternly said not to attempt it.

Thanks for the sentiment though. I really have been going thru a lot of crap over this and its kind of depressed me. :banghead:

  13. It seems your question is just what you need to install HIDs?

    if so

I, and others, use this kit and love it

    or

Some also use this kit and like

either way, either one of those links will tell you exactly what you need and what to do to install HID kit in your Edge.

I appreciate the info but I am still not sure which bulbs I should pick and which ones are legal. I dont want to get stopped by a cop every 5 minutes. Any info would help. Thanks!

  14. Ok heres an update on my progress on my Ford Edge:

Its been a week since I discovered my Ford Edge on cinder blocks. It took 4 days for my insurance company to get a Adjuster out to give me an estimate. The Adjuster incorrectly posted my car as a Ford Edge SE FWD. My car is actually a FORD EDGE LIMITED AWD. I am sure you all know that this makes a huge difference as far as rims and tires go. I have the 20' inchers on there and the SE model comes with 17's. The tires are different as well because they are Michelens and not Goodyears.

Anyway, if your car is left on cinder blocks you will have all the same problems I have had regardless. Ford dealers dont carry the rims and tires in stock for the most part and it takes them about 24 to 48 hours to get them. I have tried to get a tow company to come and tow my car to my dealership but no tow companies want to tow the car without tires on it because they would have to DRAG the car off the cinder blocks and that would do considerable damage to the Edge's underbody. The dealerships (I contacted a few) wont order the rims and tires unless you have $4000 to lay out first. I am not in the position to lay out $4000 and hope that my insurance company will reimburse me. I dont trust insurance companies in the first place so therefore I wont lay out any monies until I see a check in my mailbox. As I stated before, I tried to contact several tow companies and half of them dont even know what a Ford Edge is much less what it looks like! One tow company was willing to try and put Explorer tires on my car just to get it to roll onto the flatbed but a senior mechanic at the Ford dealership said that was a "no go" and that my breaks will lock up and the calipers would bend. I finally had to call in a favor to a "family member" who happens to know the owner of the dealership and he called his Parts dept and told them to just order the parts without a deposit and for them to find 4 Edge spare donuts and bring it to my Edge that is parked in front of my house and put them on it and get it on the flatbed and get it fixed asap.

So today, after a week of not sleeping, I sit and wait here now for the tow company to come and get my Edge.

My advise to all my fellow Ford "EDGEIANS" is that if you dont have wheel locks, GET THEM NOW!! DO IT BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO YOU!! :banghead::censored:

  15. I wonder how surprised they were when they found out those weren't real chrome wheels. How good of a part of Brooklyn are you in?

I am in a very nice part of Brooklyn actually. The Parts manager at the nearest Ford dealer was surprised as he advised me that I was the first one that he has ever heard since the Edge came out that this has happened to. Even the Police were surprised but they are treating this as a GRAND LARCENY case and had my whole car Fingerprinted. I am waiting to see what my Insurance company comes up with. According to the Parts manager at Ford, the rims and tires are about $3000 not including installation!!!

  16. I see where you are going with this. Maybe you could check out this site and get the LEDs you want and place them in the vehicle.

    http://www.oznium.com/

Great Website! Lots of info but no pics of the actual lights in the cupholders. If anyone has a pic of what that would look like along with where you got them from and how much it cost total for the product and installation please let me know.

  17. Thank you for your Fishtank example and input.

I Asked because I was Looking to do a similar install as the Above Linked myself, saving $$.

I was just curious if anyone had purchased it so that i could find out where they are installed in cupholders and sealed. I hadnt thought about changing out the cabin lights, thats a good idea. :-)

i was just planning to put neons in the footwells and LED's in the cupholders, wired to switches installed into a plate inside the center console. Ive done similar installs So I know i can handle the job. But water from the cupholder around electrical makes me nervous. Even if the LEDs will be uneffected, the water has to go SOMEWHERE. I dont want it to run to wires or metal under the console. I guess I can mount the LEDs high in the cupholder so that the water is too low to run anywhere, now that i think about it.

Anyhow, Any further advice or iput is welcome.

If anyone actually does this, can they please post a good pic of it here so that we can get an idea of what it looks like? The Ford website doesnt really show it in detail.

    Thanks!

  18. For the interior light kit

Part Number: 8S4Z-13E700-AA- From the ford certified accessory site

There are LED'S in the cupholders. How are these LED'S waterproof So that condensation from the cold beverages in the cupholder doesnt run inside the opening and inside the console?

    water + electronics = trouble

Anyone have this that can tell about it?

Can you give me the link to the Ford Certified Accessory site that you found this item on?
