So now that I am 3k miles beyond my factory warranty, the sunshade/privacy shade on my Vista roof is acting up on my 2012 Ford Edge Limited.
While out of town 800miles from home, the sunshade bunched up when trying to fully open. Almost like the retraction mechanism for the fabric stopped while the motor that pulls the rail the fabric connects to ran fine. Just to clarify, both the sunroof motor and sunshade motor sound and appear to run fine. the front bar that holds the fabric of the sunshade will fully retract, but when it gets about 4-6 inches from fully opening, the fabric no longer gets pulled in the headliner and the front bar that the fabric connects to continues to retract until fully behind the headliner leaving some fabric privacy shade hanging out of the headliner.
I believe that the fabric shade is on a spring based retraction mechanism in addition to a motor that pulls it out and guides it back in, but want to clarify with this group (I found part # AT4Z78519A02AA that appears to be the culprit).
I have already performed the sunroof reset procedure and the problem still persists.
My problem is, now that I am 3k miles beyond my warranty, the dealership acted like I was crazy when I asked them for an exception to warranty this out or even look at it without charging me an hourly rate.
I am really annoyed with Ford as I purchased this vehicle used and have only had it for 10 months.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
