  1. Just want to report my observations after completing this job.

    1) If your master cylinder is not leaking, it does not need to be removed. It has flex lines and can be moved out of the way once detached.

    2) Put drivers seat all the way back when you park car before working on it or do it before you pull the battery,

    3) Hardest part of job was pulling the wiper arms. took me an hour to get the drivers side off. And be very careful with stubborn arms as you can crack the windshield.

    4) you will need to remove the front cowling to have enough room to remove booster. There are a lot of bolts, but is not difficult. It does take time.

I completed the project in 4 hours and did not need to bleed brakes or make any other adjustments. Probably wasted 1.5 hours just on the wiper arms.

No tips, tricks, or anything. What did you have to remove to get to the part? With the proper clearance to remove the booster, and reinstall the new one... maybe a half hour/hour job. It's the time spent removing parts to get to the booster that is, well, time consuming. Maybe next time you can share the details instead of posting a pedestrian explanation of your success. smh

  2. A Ford representative will be with you shortly.
    Blair says:
Hello Jim. My name is Blair. How can I help you?
    Again, it's Jim says:
Hi Blair... the brake booster in the vehicle needs to be replaced. This I know as fact. Paid to have it diagnosed. Now... I've been told the replacement isn't covered under the extended warranty. My question: Why? Specifically WHY? Thank you.
    Blair says:
I would be happy to help! What is the approximate mileage on your vehicle?
    Again, it's Jim says:
    140K
    Blair says:
You purchased an extended warranty through your dealer, Jim?
    Again, it's Jim says:
    No.
    Again, it's Jim says:
    Your 13N02 supplement.
    Blair says:
This is a Customer Satisfaction Program which are VIN specific. I do not see that your vehicle qualifies for this program as it is not listed. It is only for certain 2010-2013 Ford Edge models. Not every model within those years will qualify for this program. I do not have access to the process which determines what VIN's are chosen to be apart of Customer Satisfaction Programs and recalls.
    Again, it's Jim says:
OK. So... who has that access? Who can tell me specifically why a vehicle that was built in that plant... within that time frame... and using the same booster parts supplier... isn't covered. I need to know the specifics. With whom can you connect me at Ford that knows "why" my vehicle isn't covered. Thank you.

    Blair says:
I do not have any contacts available to for someone who has this information. Ford Motor Company and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) work together to proactively identify areas of concern through investigation of consumer and dealer feedback. During an investigation Ford cooperates fully with NHTSA. Due to our rigorous safety standards and constant testing, not all issues result in recall or customer satisfaction programs for all vehicles within the same model year. You may be able to reach out to NHTSA for more information. They can be reached at 1-888-327-4236 or www.nhtsa.gov

    Again, it's Jim says:
You're kidding, right? That's all great technical information, but I'm going to call a federal agency because you guys don't know why? So, you're telling me we're through here?

    Blair says:
I do see where you are coming from, Jim, however I do not have access to that information and we do not have contact available for the process which shows which VINs are chosen to be apart of our programs.
    Again, it's Jim says:
Thank you. Can you tell me if the 2012 Ford Edge Sport specifically is not included in the warranty campaign?

    Again, it's Jim says:
    Blair?

    Blair says:
Yes, I am still here. Did you see my last message?
    Again, it's Jim says:
    Yes. Thank you.

All that said... does anyone know WHY?

  3. May use different master cylinders based on Edge models, engineering size, etc.. In looking up your car, the cylinder is listed separately from the reservoir. Here's what's listed for thr 2012 Edge Sport with the 3.7L engine.

    https://www.oemfordpart.com/auto-parts/2012/ford/edge/sport-trim/3-7l-v6-gas-engine/brakes-cat/hydraulic-system-scat

Thank you so very much. That is the one I'll purchase. Some additional questions,Sir:

    1. Should I reuse my existing reservoir, or purchase a new one?

    2. Are there any other parts I should purchase? I'll be doing this myself, and prefer to be prepared. Nuts? Seals? Gaskets?

I've watched a few vids... know which tool(s) to use... but read something about bench-bleeding the new cylinder. Isn't it just a "be careful" with the hydraulic lines... remove the old... reinstall the new... tighten things up... then renew the brake fluid... bleed... test... and done?

Very much I appreciate your wisdom. Thank you.

  4. 2012 Ford Edge Sport 2WD.

The master cylinder. When I do an Internet search many surface... but how do I know exactly which one to purchase? I know I want the Motorcraft part. However... there seem to be a variety of part numbers... and I need guidance on which one to purchase.

I see that some come with the reservoir... other without. I'd prefer one with the reservoir.

    Thank you!

  5. I'm thinking of bringing the Edge to the local mechanic, I've vetted, and am concerned about the back three of the transverse mounted engine plugs being replaced. How can I be absolutely certain that when I receive back the vehicle that those plugs were changed? Any tips or tricks?

I don't necessarily trust auto mechanics.

    Thank you.

  6. Pushed it ever, ever so hard a few weeks back (just now found this post). Hopped OFF the freeway into the station... 19.1 gallons. 830 at night. The desert. My wife was not happy. ;)

Thus... I tend to agree with the 19.2 gallon figure... I was WAYYYYY past the 0 miles left mark.

Just an FYI. I knew I had about 50 miles when I hit the zero mark... as I've pressed it a few times. I chose to push it that evening.

I have a Drawtite Hitch that I removed from my 2013 Sport. I just bought the car with the hitch installed and I don't use it. I have all the hardware except the wires you use to fish the bolts in the frame but I'm sure you could make those pretty easily. This hitch is in good condition. only the receiver can be seen when installed.. I also have the complete wiring harness for a trailer. I'd like $80 for the Hitch and $30 for the wiring harness plus shipping.

Price Drop. $80 for the hitch $30 for wiring harness

With all due respect... how in the hell is that a price drop? smh

  8. Apologies if already asked/answered... can't find it here. That being said...

    2012 Ford Edge Sport...

The airbox muffler, which sits on the intake air tube (?) connected to the airbox (in which the filter resides). It is connected via a couple hose clamps. Before I Dremel off the existing clamps I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the size of the two holes that will remain absent the muffler box. One hole is smaller than the other. The small one looks to be 1.5" and the larger about 2" (my guesstimate).

Can someone tell me the hole sizes and the product... caps... I can affix to the holes (I've read they can be purchased at Home Depot... Lowes... any hardware store). Once those are installed I'll affix new hose clamps.

In advance, thank you for your consideration. Jim

  9. Perfect. Disconnected... connected negative... ~20 mins...

maintained radio presents and just about everything else...

gps now recognizes me in my driveway.

    Cheers!

PS I have had zero problems with sync (maybe for some users it should be STYNC?) since owning this car two weeks, with the exception of the now corrected gps.

  10. Purchased 2012 edge sport...

Navigation shows the truck sitting at the dealer... but I am 85 miles away (first time attempting to use the nav feature. Using the sd card/

How to I adjust nav so it shows my car sitting in the driveway?

Have reset a couple of times... reinserted sd card... but the arrow, with the white circle flashing) shows it sitting at the dealer.

I've pored over the posts in the forum... nothing short of going to the stealer. I've read removing fuses 67 and 69... or even disconnecting the basttery might force it to recognize my location... so I then can plan a route from wherever my car is at.

    Help?

    Thank you.

    Jim

  11. I've a 2012 Ford Edge Sport.

    Engine light just came on.

I've read that via SYNC I can, in addition to running the vehicle health report I can run an engine diagnostic covering the engine... tranny...

Can someone share how I do this? I can find nothing online.

    Thank you.
