  1. I have noticed that the chrome clad wheels are starting to discolor in the corners of the spokes.

I wash my edge about twice a week and the wheels using only blue coral car wash soap and

never used any cleaner on the rims or tires.

Has anyone encountered this problem? I plan on taking it in for an oil change and showing the

    service dept.

I would think after spending 35.000 for a limited, the rims should not change colors.

With around 8800 miles this is the only issur I've had so far.

Got similar issue with the chrome on 18" chrome clad wheel on my 2007 EDGE (got it in March07).

After the winter (I swap tires last fall but kept the wheels), i figgured it was the salt residue.

I started to clean the corners using the California Gold (red bottle) Chrmome clean/polish. It did great on my chrome Cobra wheels so I said why not.

Was surprised to see som "pitting" already only after 1 winter.

Now thinking about new "summer" wheels but will have to wait.

It is a nightmare to clean but I will make something to fit my rotary tool to help my sore finger...

  2. Hi Marc,

How do you like this snow?? Sure glad I have the Edge.......it handles great in this weather. Looks like we are going to follow your lead and get the Best Buy remote starter as well. Will probably go and have it installed during the holidays. I have another question for you. Did you get Winter tires for your Edge? If yes, what kind did you go for and where did you get them?

    Thanks for the tips!

    Terri :happy feet:

    Hi Edgegirl,

Adam at Best buy did the install.

He should have no problem to do your install.

As for winter tires, I always go to Pneus Rallye, 645 Bord du Lac, Dorval, tel 514-636-4605.

From HWY 20, take Dorval Ave to Lakeshore, turn left (east) and few stops later it is on your left.

I must have bought 24 tires (6 sets from them) so far. Always good service. With 4 cars (2 Mustangs and a BMW X5) tires go fast...

I got the Blizzak DM-Z3 235/65R18. It was not my first choice but that's all they could provide. They had to order them from the states. Took 1 week. That was in November.

Give them a call. Last week we had to change the winter tire on the X5 and they had them in stock adn had a rendez-vous the same day I called.

  3. Good day Edgegirl,

Had made a reply this morning but somehow it got screwed up when I hit the post buttons so here it is.

Went for the install as plan last Thursday.

    Everything went well.

It took the 3 hours they said. I don’t know if they rushed it or took their time, I was at the Second Cup on St-John doing some reports…

    The system works fine.

I had the rear toaster (defrost) hooked up when I remote start the car.

The system comes with 2 remotes:

1 2-way remote (8000R) with LCD panel and icons that provide status.

1 1-way remote (2000R) without 2-way confirmation and without LCD of course.

I can lock and unlock the doors using anyone of the 2 remotes and the 2 OEM keys.

This system, by the way, does not require you to leave 1 OEM key in the car all the time like some of the remote systems do. You will need the 2 OEM keyless at the time of install so they can be programmed in the bypass PATS (I-datalink).

I have not tested the remote maximum distance capability. 5000’ is almost the distance between Fairview and my house…It is a long walk just to test it. But I can tell that from my office, I can start the car and I received confirmation. My previous system (Prostart), although a 1-way system, could not start the car unless I had a clear view of the remote antenna. Now, at least I do not have to run to an office window facing the parking lot to get the car started.

Since it is my first 2-way remote system, I cannot comment on the system performance versus other systems. I can just say it does what I was looking for.

    Here’s the NuStart website:

    http://nustart.ca/models/NUS-8000/

Model is the NUS-8000 (remote only not alarm). You can see the 2 remotes (8000R 7 2000R) on the web site. The one way remote comes from the NUS-2000.

    Hope this helps.

I'll be happy to look for you too in the Fairview Shopping Center! although I would not know how to recognize you :shades: Might be easier to look for your EDGE in the parking lot...hehehe B)

  4. Calling out any Ford Techs who can help me...

I am considering installing a remote starter in my 2007 Edge.

A dealer wants to charge $700Cdn - a little more than a half day labour plus $300+ for the starter.

An aftermarket spot, recommended by another Ford dealer = $249Cdn installed.

Do I have warranty issues with an aftermarket install ? and is the Ford installed price just overpriced?

Calling out any US Ford Tech in Buffalo NY area - can you do it for cheaper?

    Thanks in advance

    Edgy Girl,

I finally decided on my remote starter.

I got the Nustart 8000 from Bestbuy.

I had to buy the idatalink module for the PATS system.

I have an appointment next Thrusday (Nov 29) at Bestbuy Faireview Pointe-Claire for the install.

The range is one of the longest I have found and the Bestbuy guys did 1 install on an Edge.

    They quote me 3 hours.

I have requested to have the rear defrost being controlled by the remote as well but not the seats.

Will keep you posted on how the system works and the install went.

The system is 280$ (installed included) some extra for the rear defrost.

    The bypass module is $80

Shop supplies is $5 and the un-install at the end of my lease is $25.

All and all with taxes it came to $478CDN.

    Marc

  5. Most tire/wheel sites say what fits the Edge, but in offsets from 35 to 45. I'd like to keep the new rims as close to stock as possible. TIA

Well I do not have the offset but I know rim for the EDGE 18" chrome clad has a backspacing of 5.75" whihc is the distance between the rim edge (not the lip) and the rotor interface. I measured this using a straight ruler sitting on the back edge and a caliper to measure the distance between the bottom of the ruler and the rotor interface.

The rim is marked at 18x7.5".

    If the Offset is = Rim width /2 - Backspace, you get: 7.5"/2 - 5.75" = -2" or 50mm

If I had measure the true rim width (lip to lip distance), the rim width is more like 8".

    So, 8"/2- 5.75"= -1.75" or 44.45mm

My guess is that the offset is 45mm not 35m

  6. Hi Marc,

I guess I need to do some research to see which remote starter model inspires me!

My Edge is a Creme Brulee Limited Edition with Camel Color interior. Its beautiful!! :happy feet:

No winters tires, I will stick with the All Seasons that came with the vehicle. 18"Pirellis.

What color and model is your Edge?

How long have you had it?

    Hi Edgegirl,

Mine is the "poster copper" or if you prefer blazing copper.

It is the 2007 SEL AWD with no moonroof, with roof rails, with rear entertainement system, with Class 2 hitch.

I wanted the price to stay under $40k. I have my GPS on my Axim so I was not inspire to get the Ford navigation system.

I got it last March (21) and now have $6500km on the meter.

Since it is mostly my winter ride, I wanted the roof rail for the sausage (Thule box) but the roof rail capacity is less than 100lbs which is totally useless as far as I am concerned. Thule has now come up with adapters that do not use the Ford roof rails. I am doublely screwed cause now it interfere with the Ford rails :banghead: .

It is my first car with automatic transmission. Even our X5 is manual as well as the 2 Mustangs. Although the auto trans does a good job, it does not have the throttle response a manual transmission car has. It think Ford needs to revisit the gear shift programming points. sometimes the transmission gets confused as to which gear to use especially in traffic and on the highway.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the EDGE.

I just found, in the cie parking lot an Creme Brulee Limited Edition EDGE. I have not looked inside yet to see the interior.

I believe it is a 2008 cause it has different rims. It looks it has the BAMR.

    Take care,

    Marc

  7. Thanks Marc....I'll look into it before it gets any colder.

Did you compare the price with Lebeau or any other places, for better prices?

    BTY...I'm a fellow Pointe-Claire -er !!

    :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

    Good evening Edgegirl,

    Good to here from a P-C fellower...hehehe

No, I did not looked at Lebeau besides seeing they have the Orbit Remote Starteron their website.

It just does not inspire me.

    Which color is your Edge?

I might try to spot you on St-John Street or by Fairview center, you knows. :shades:

Did you get your winter tires yet?

    Which brand did you choose?

  8. I'm interested in this topic as well, but would like to know if anyone in the Plattsburg New York area can do it for less than the Ford dealers in the Montreal area. Thanks. :hyper:

I had one on my old Honda. Worked great.

The Lazer guy said they installed it on Ford model all the time especially for the guys/gals working at Bombardier (huge parking lot) because of the range they have.

Might be worth having a look at it.

It is a 2 way system with no alarm but you can have a similar model with alarm as well.

    Good day Edgegirl,

Living in Pointe-Claire (West island) and currently resurecting this subject.

Now that the winter tires are on order, next is the remote starter.

Currently looking at the Autostart AS-2451TW-FM or any other brand that is 2 way no alarm.

The dealer approach does not appeal me either.

Let me know how it turns out.

    Marc G

  10. Additionally you will have to have the sensors calibrated. It doesn't take long but until the major tire places start to use the devices necessary will have to be done at the dealership. If they try to charge you more than 30 minutes they are gouging. It cost me $37.50

Keep in mind as well that you will have to have the original sensors recalibrated when you reinstall the original wheels.

Calibration, as I understand it, is simply telling the vehicle's computer to talk to the particular sensors in the wheels on the car.

    Thanks Scoopo,

It kind of defeats the benefit from not having to go to the dealer / tire guys at each season change, doesn't it?

One of the benefit from having a separate set of winter rims is to be independant. Now, if I have to make appointment to the dealer when I change my winter to summer tires for the sensor recalibration....whash

    So, my options are:

    1) Buy expensive 18" winter tire for the OEM rim and take appointment twice a year for the changeout at about $80 per appointment ($20 per wheel install + balance) with the additional risk of having the rim damaged and/or the tires each time. No sensor re-calibration but still need appointment for the tire change. Plus the rim degradation with winter road salt.

    2) Buy a set of less expensive 17" tire and use the Mustang rim. With this, I have to decide if I want to live 5 months of the year with the bloody light on (does not seem like a big deal now but who knows after 1 month). It will then be too late to go back after $1000 invested (big word here) in a set of tire.

    3) With option 2, buy the sensor and the band for a 17" rim. This, however, does not seem to alleviate the appointment issue since the car computer will still need a visit to the dealer to recalibrate the sensor, right?

The savings benefit seems to quickly evaporate with this as the $ delta between the 18" and the 17" tires will be taken by the sensor and the band and the recalibration.

I hate this option of TPMS.

    Marc G

  11. Are you saying the vent can't be adjusted left/right and up/down?

    No,

What I am saying is they can be oriented few degrees up/down and left/right but even that is not enough to really send the cold air away from the steering wheel or my legs.

What I would have like is the ability to close them 100% like the one on each side of the dash by the door.

These have the open/close slider at the bottm.

    Marc G

  12. try this link - i think it will help you ... don't forget to match the overall diameter of the 18" wheel and tire if you change to 17" rims.

    http://www.mustangforums.com/m_2219956/tm.htm

    good luck

    Thanks for the info.

Since our mustang is from 2005, I do not think it has the TPMS system. I have to verify.

I have verified the OD of the EDGE 18" with 245/60R18: 29.575"

The best 17" rim combo for the EDGE would be with Michelin X-ICE 245/65R17

Now from what I understand, I will have to get new sensors and band to install inside the Mustang rim prior to the tire mounting.

Do you know if I will have to have them calibrated by the Ford dealer after the installation?

I am not planning to have the winter tire installation done at the dealer.

    Thanks

    Marc G

  13. Congradulations,

Did they improve the center vent in 2008 to allow open and closure of them?

On my 2007, my right hand gets frozen with the A/C blowing from the center vents (console).

There is no way I direct away that cold air from my hand of turn it down except from the main blower power setting which reduces the overall circulation.

I think that was one of the biggest mistake they made on the interior of te EDGE in 2007. Like the side front vents, they should have added the capability to close them or not.

    Marc G

  14. Good evening all,

Been a while since my last post.

In fact, I have not been driven the Edge much this summer. I did enjoy more my Mustang 95GT and our 2005 Mustang GT convertible.

Now winter is coming and I am looking at winter tires for the Edge.

One option is to use the 17" rims from the 05 GT convertible since the Mustang is stored during the winter. Next spring the Mustang will get new 18" wheel anyway with larger rubber on it and its factory 17" will sit in the garage.

So, my plan is to use the Mustang 05 17" factory rim as my Edge winter rims. I have check the wheel on the Edge and it fits. The clearance between the fron caliper and the inside rim is about 1/4". Backspacing is different but the Mustang rim is larger than the Edge.

My biggest question is : what about the TPMS since the Mustang rim does have the pressure monitoring sensor?

    How do I get around?

The Edge has the 18" rim and winter tires for that size is not only too expensive but also not the best.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

    Marc G

  15. The dealer should have given you those items, in fact, the salesperson should have gone over the books, keys and did another walk-around of the vehicle. Go ask your salesperson for your headphones, you are owed them @ no cost.

    -Dan

    Dan,

I did and the dealer got the head sets via the parts department.

He said they were shipped seperately so they cannot be lost/stolen in transit.

I have not tried them yet as I am under with work both at home and at work.

Planning to try it this weekend (long easter week-end)

    P.S. The car is great.

    Marc

  16. Makes sense that with all the Florida sunshine , a sunroof is the way to go..

I am up in Ontario, Canada, and there may be more standard roofs, here...be interesting to see the stats..

    Thks for you reply,

    non s

I took the Rail roof rack instead of the BAMR because I prefer to put skis and bikes on top instead of on the trail hitch.

I also have dought about the long term strutral integrity of the body with that big cut-out up there.

I was also affraid of leaks over time with our nasty canadian winter cycle (snow, ice, rain, ice, snow, -30,rain, -30)

Plus it adds weight to an already heavy car.

And I wanted the rear DVD for my son

Plus, I rarely used the sunroof on our X5 (noisy, such cold AC air out of the car, etc.)

For open sky driving, we use my wife Mustang 05 convertible.

Anyway, I am very satisfied with the choice I made but if the BAMR had been available with the roof rail option and the Rear DVD, I would have probably taught more about it.

    Marc (from Montréal)

  17. :happy feet: after a long wait (since jan 10th) we finally picked up the edge last night. :happy feet: we got the SEL, in pewter and black cloth interior w/ BAMR, towing package and reverse sensors. i haven't been able to drive it much but i'm sure we are going to have some good fun with it... i will try to drive it and give a full report. for now here is a couple of things....

i thougth the seat was going to be a just slide lever and back lever.. but it is not it has a driver power seat sweet... the mirror has auto dimming... did not know it had that.... the recliner of the back seats is great specially to admire the BAMR and that thing is HUGE!!!.... my daughter who is 3 1/2 yrs old... was a little upset that her moon roof did not open... but got over it quickly... the stereo sounds good.. not bad for a stock w/o any upgrades.

interesting how the bamr button works... i press it and it starts opening it.. it then stops... so i have to push it again... then on the way to close i push it... and stops again before it is fully closed so i have to push it again... is this a safety thing??

i got the extended warranty and the wheel and tire protection.. I'm sure i will make use of it.

this is turning out to be a long report.. but those are my first thoughts... later there might be more.. and some pics to go with it...

    congrat,

Mine was ordered Jan 16 and picked it up yesterday.

Did not get the BAMR as I need the roof rail but got the reverse sensor (which I did not ordered but told it was with the package (SEL AWD)

Also got the Class II trailer and the Rear DVD system.

    Have fun

    Marc

  18. Seeing that you have a BMW (once had an M6), why did you decide to purchase an Edge and what other vehicles did you consider?

We are kind of car crazy. With 5 cars in the driveway now, some got to go...

The BMW X5 is a 2001 3.0i 5 speed manual. It is our familly car and driven by my wife on a daily basis. Last year it became her winter drive as she got a 2000 Mustang Gt convertible for the summer.

I do have a Mustang 95GT which has been turn into a life long project... which I drive only in the summer also.

My winter drive was getting old (92 honda Accord) and I decided it would be a good timing to change it. Since I drive only few km to work, I do not mind having the family car for the winter (i.e. the CUV).

The bimmer will most likely be gone by next fall. It is still in great shape but my wife would like to have somthing a bit smaller for the city driving she does. Most likely she will get to the Mazdaspeed6 since not much is left in the AWD sporty car with manual transmission. She insists on having manual shift and the EDGE is really our first automatic transmission car.

As for the alternative to the EDGE, I looked at the Mazda CX7, the Volvo, Audi, Subaru but found they were either too expensive for my budget (need to have som $$ left for the Mustang project, right :shades:

The CX7 was really the close call but, when I look at the look, the options, the interior space, the $, etc. I found the EDGE to be more 'exotic' and different than the others...and the color. Might be funny things to base a decision on but hey! each others pick, right!

    Cheers,

  19. Good evening all,

    Got my Edge today.

Great car, bigger than I taught.

Side by side with our X5 the Edge looks almost as big as the X5.

Colour is great under the sun (Copper metallic)

    I have one question though:

I pick the rear entertainement system with DVD (No Vista).

I can't seem to find the remote and te 2 IR earphones that the book says I should have.

Anybody have any idea where they can be found in the car?

I will give a call to the dealer ship tomorrow to see if the prep guys forgot to put them back in the car.

    Thanks

Will provide better input once I have spent few days with it.

    Marc G

  20. I recently installed a Hornet 564T 2- way LCD display model. Hornet is the same as Viper, their both from the same manufacturer.

The unit does the remote start, starter cut-out, 2 stage shock sensing, door locks, dome light, etc... (all the bells & whistles)

The range of the remote is approx. 1000' which is much farther than the stock key fob.

Dealers that offer remote start in house end up bringing in a local car alarm shop to do the work and you pay more.

The alarm I have has approx. 30 options for your to turn on or off through programing with the valet & remote.

I payed $150.00 for the unit off the shelf.

An average alarm shop (here in NY) will charge you about $450.00 for the alarm installed. Well worth it in my opinion.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks for the info.

As winter is coming to an end soon, I might postponed the decision until next fall.

I just do not want to ended up with manu bulky remotes at the end of my key. I do not mind re-placing my factory keyless remote by something like to Hornet. In fact that is what happened with my Mustang 95 I got in Sept 94. Back then the FORD PASS was not ready for the early 95 built year and it was easy for the dealer to install the alarm cause my car did not had the PASS in it.

    Question though:

    1) Does your remote acts as the alarm also, bypassing the factory alarm system, or does it work in concert with it?

    2) Does your keyless door entry pad still works with your Hornet system or it was disconnected in the process?

    3) I heard the many aftemarket remote/alarm had to have a special "additional" box to bypass the factory PASS systems. Do not know if it is still the case.

    Thanks again for the input.

    Marc G

  21. There is nothing wrong with an after market version as long as you get a good one and have someone professional install it.

Mine has been fine for years in both my Dodge Dakota, Toyota Matrix and now Ford Edge. But hey if you like to pay TOP dollar, take it to your dealer.

    Which one did you get?

Was thinking of a 2 way model that send the remote a confirmation the car has started or not.

I am told the Ford ones are only 1 way with no confirmation.

    Thanks

    Marc G

  22. Looks my Edge should be in anytime now (1-2 weeks based on transportation).

Since this would be my winter car. The Mustang is reserved for the summer time only and since it takes my garage spot for the winter, I was thinking of having the remote starter installed.

I do not want an aftermarket remote that will be giving me potential trouble down the road with all the now-a-days electronic stuff in a car.

So, I was thinking of getting the Ford model installed by the dealer and serviced by Ford.

Any input to the Ford remote?

    Is it any good?

Do who know who is the manufacturer of the remote?

    Thanks
