I have had the same problem and I very slowly manually closed it and it has worked fine ever since.
-
Wow, I'm glad I found this thread. Not that I am happy other people are having the same problem, but I guess I'm glad I'm not alone.
This past Sunday (8/17) I encountered the exact same problem with my 2008 Edge. Sunday it was only a week and a day old, so I was pretty frustrated to encounter this sort of a problem so early on. Upon arriving at my destination I raised the gate which went up fine, but then when it went down it would go almost all the way down, but fail to latch and just come right back up. I tried this several times, making no progress I decided to just turn off the power lift gate and close it manually.
Several hours later we came back to the car and headed up the street to McDonald's and I decided to try it again real quick since it was stressing me out. So I turned the Power Lift Gate Back On, and opened it up, it went up without a problem, and then I brought it back down, and VIOLA it latched and worked perfectly! It has worked fine ever since, and I've tried it at least once a day since then.
The only thing I am noticing now is that it is chiming 3 times just as the liftgate fully opens, I don't remember it chiming upon opening before? Only prior to its closing. Does anyone else notice if their lift gate chimes just as it reaches the full open position?
Oh and when this problem did occur it was in a parking garage, someone else mentioned this happen in their garage, however clearance was not an issue, so I don't know how that could have had an impact?
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Look for another dealer!
I had to talk to a few different dealers to find one that would swap the wheels on a limited for me.
I had an infinity to trade and used x plan pricing so they wouldn't come off the price but gave me more on my trade to cover the swap.
-
Welcome
Got to love that copper color.
Mine is copper with tan interior and we love it so far.
-
I had to fight with the dealer to swap the chrome clad for the Premium painted wheels, and I love them.
They are easy to take care of just a coat of wax and real easy to wipe off after washed and the bead up
just like the paint on the vehicle.
You won't have any regrets going with the painted wheels.
-
Wow those MPG figures are unbelieveable.
Haven't had mine on a road trip yet but 30 miles to the gallon doesn't seem possible!!
-
The SEL that my premium wheels came off of showed $575 for the wheels I did not notice an adjustment.
They swapped them for me on my limited and since I bought on the x-plan they wouldn't come off the price of the vehicle but
they did add another $500.00 to my trade.
I am with Lex I would have paid the money anyway to swap the wheels I hate the chrome clads even if they didn't have problems.
I love the way my copper limited looks with the premium painted wheels.
-
John the premium 18" painted wheels are a $575.00 option on the SEL's.
SEL's come with 18" wheels standard but they are the light colored spokes the premium wheels are gunmetal gray.
I worked out a deal so they put $500.00 more dollars into my trade for swapping out the wheels.
I bought on the x-plan so they wouldn't take the $500 off the sport tuned suspension package that came with the 20" wheels, it is a $875 option on the limited.
The limited can not be ordered without the chrome clads which I hated.
Hope this answers your question.
-
Lex I owe a thanks to you for giving me the idea to swap the wheels.
They look great.

Finally got our Limited Blazing Copper Edge, my wife has been driving another limited for almost a week waiting for the dealership
to go out of state to get ours.
So far she really likes driving it and I talked the dealership into swapping out the 20" wheels for the 18" premium painted wheels and it looks great.
Options are Nav, Vista Roof, Rubber Mats, Cargo trays in the back, Power Liftgate, Sirus Radio.
And because it came with the 20" wheels I have the sport Tuned Suspension also.
Love it so far.

Prius's aren't worth the money yet.
My little diesel beetle gets 45 miles to the gallon and has an incredable trade in value still.
I know diesel is higher right now but compared to a gas car it's still cheaper to drive.
50,000 miles so far and not one trip back to the dealer.
-
OOPS..
As I was saying the dealership is sending someone down to San Antonio to pick up my new Limited Blazing Copper Edge that has the 20" wheel option but are going to swap the wheels out when It gets here with the 18" preminum painted wheels.
My wife has been driving a new edge they gave us friday until ours comes in and she comments everyday when she gets home how much she likes it.
I was surprised that we didn't have to sign anything yet for them to go get it.
I just hope it comes in with no blemishes or anything wrong with it because I told them I would walk away if there was so much as a rock chip when it showed up.
Can't wait!!

The 2 dealerships are still fighting over the edge I want so in the mean time I am driveing a loaded SEL Blazing Copper with the wheels that are going to be mine if they ever get the right edge to there store!!
I am kind of surprised because I haven't signed anything yet and I have had this edge since friday and so far it has not disappointed me on ride or fit and finish and I love the look of the preminum painted wheels with the copper color.
I have not seen this combination around here yet.
I will keep waiting for them to figure out what they are going to do.
Hopefully they can work it out.
Not sure how long they will let me drive this one until they get the other one or figure out they can't.

Salesman at Joe Cooper Ford keeps making excuses why he can't give me the wheels I want and it's alot farther away from where I live.
If he won't let go of the vehicle I will have to keep at him about the wheels and hope he gives in.
-
It looks like the x-plan is a better deal.
Thanks alot for the info I have an appointment tomorrow morning to
go over my trade.
Now the only problem might be that I have been talking to both dealerships and there is a
posibility that Joe Cooper might try to hang onto it and not let the dealer closer to me have it.
we'll see.
Thanks again for the help

Okay haven't talked about extra fees yet.
The zipcode for the dealer is 73123 but I think it is at another dealers lot which has a zipcode of 73099.
He told me the last 5 digits of the vin were 02749 and sent me a copy of the window sticker which had
the number 2FMDK39C78BB02749 on it which is what I think is the vin number but it doesn't say it's the vin number thats why I said I thought that was the vin.
Here in Oklahoma the tax title and registration is done at the tag agency separate from the purchace of the vehicle so those fees will definately be extra.
Name of the dealership I am dealing with is Reynolds Ford of Edmond and I think the vehicle is at Joe Cooper Ford of Yukon.
Incentives are
$500 Customer Cash
$1500 Bonus Cash
$1000 For owning a non ford vehicle.
$3000.00 altogether.

Okay the dealer says he will swap wheels and adjust odometer and the price is $32,430.00 after rebates.
Blazing Copper Limited
Tow Package
Rubber Mats
Vista Roof
Nav
Liftgate
Cargo Management
20" Wheels which he will swap
Sirus Radio
Vin I think 2FMDK39C78BBO2749
MSRP $37,165.00
What do you think? I can get x-plan pricing but I didn't tell him that yet I think this price may be better!!
-
The dealer is telling me that to change from 20" wheels to the 18" wheels they have to change the odometer.
I don't know the circumference difference between the 20" wheels with lower profile tires compared to the 18" wheels with there tires.
Anyone know how much difference there really is in the 2.
-
That's a good idea.
Make them write the wheel swap as part of the deal that way even if they don't have and SEL on the lot with the right
wheels they will have to get them from somewhere.
-
I actually have about 3 different dealers looking for the one I want but there isn't anything out there right now within the surrounding states.
I might have to go ahead and order one and just hope the dealer I use has an SEL on the lot with the right wheels.
-
Wow yuo guys are great and very informative.
I have thought about ordering a new one the only problem is that the dealer may or may not have an SEL with the optional 18" premium wheels when
mine shows up.
Timing seems to be everything.
I have been searching everywhere online and can not find any information about the 2009 edge's except for the sport model.
Were only a few months away from the 09's showing up and maybe ford has realized how limited customers are with the wheel options.
Anyone know of a site that gives info about the 09's.
Thanks
-
Thanks for the info I want a limited but blazing copper is hard to come by with the options I want.
And the wheels are still an issue.
-
Can't find a limited blazing copper edge and the dealer is trying to get me in an sel.
He says there is no differenc in the interior and the only difference on the outside is the 20" wheel option.
My wife wants a limited but she might have to wait until 09 and maybe there will be better wheel options.
I a not going to spend $30,000 plus on a vehicle that isn't just like I want.
Can anyone tell me the differences between the two.
interior styling?
exterior badging?
option difference?
Thanks for the info.
