  1. About how much extra horsepower with all the mods? I like the look of the exhaust system, is that a custom setup, or a complete catback system? I'm asking because that's my next mod. If thats a complete system who makes it, and is real expensive?

On my car I went to Express performance http://www.expressperformancecenter.com/xp...s_0108-001.html

they bent and welded up a cat back system. the muffler is a stainess steel bullet. At first they also had the resonator up in the front under the rear set area. It may be visable in pic.

I thought it was too quiet! So I went back and they took it out. Now the sound was perfect. That is how I have it today. 30,000 miles later it still sounds good.

I spent 500.00 on the system. Since 1993 these guy's have done the exhaust on all my cars and trucks. Volvo's Gmc, Ford's etc.

the Bullet Stainless muffler has a life time wty.

here is a pic of my 2008 Ford F150 4x4 they put a System on in Jan of this year. It is a lot louder than my Edge System. The truck sounds Strong.

  2. I just logged in. It has been a good year at least. I have been on the F150 forum with my new truck.

A year ago Last Jan. I bought my 2008 ford Edge AWD limited

I added the Bullet exhaust sustem

I also added the K&N insert but I removed the baffle on the side.

Then I added the Evolution performance SCT x3 with custom tunes.

I have 30.000 miles on my Ford EDGE with this setup. when I go to the dealer I put the tune back to stock.

the car has much more power with my mods. when I first instlled the Exhaust, K&N, and SCT I took my car on the freeway It ran so strong 120 mph and it was still pulling strong.

Other Edge owners that hear my car say it sounds good. Kinda like that of the Nissan 350 Z. It isn't extreemely loud like a honda civic. it is ral nice.

the mufflers and resonators were removed and only the one muffler was installed see pics

  3. Hi all! Just wondering how many of you have the original Ford hood deflector on your Edge. I have had my Ice Blue Edge on order for 2 weeks now and am thinking on whether or not to put one on when it comes in. I have always had one on for my Freestar van, Sport Trac before that and Aerostar before that. Are any of you getting paint chips coming off on the front of your hoods? Thanks in advance.

    Dave

I put my own on after I bought My edge ck out my pics "I Like it!"

  4. I agree with the others, it's neither cold air or ram air but rather a pipe with an air filter on it. I doubt you'll gain mileage since it would appear you're most impressed with the sound, something that's only acheived by putting your foot in it. Back it the day we used to just flip the air cleaner lid upside down for the same effect. Without actually testing the airflow, air temp etc. you likely won't know if it actually increases performance/mileage or decreases them.

Like I said, equivalent to what we used to do as kids, flip the air cleaner lid upside down and punch holes in the exhaust pipe and think we had a hot rod.

    you are bringing back memories.

Cool forced air is better than sucking in hot ambient air from the engine compartment. More HP

But who has the best solution? time will tell. I just stuck a K&N filter in my stock box. I am trying to find some way (that I like the look) to get cooler air forced into the side baffle hole. I don't like the dryer tube idea. I owned a volvo Shop for years an some of the turbo charged cars had long intake hoses that might go down and under but then water could be a problem? I am waiting to see what comes out in the next year. so whatever I come up with may be a temp solution.

I too do Mods to everything I drive or ride. but there is nothing worse than spending money on an improvement that only seems to make an improvment at first but in the long run I find out nothing has changed. and boy have I been there.

So far I did my exhaust with Bullet stainless steel

Put in the K&N popped out the baffle on the side ran a small 3" diam tube up to the hole for some cooler air

and ordered the sct x3 performance programmer pre tuned. I hope this helps as Specified

I have a little more top end power a little less bottom end. More Noise ( Oh Boy) I'm a 55 year old kid

"you likely won't know if it actually increases performance/mileage or decreases them."

I would after being a master technition for 30 years and racing for as many you can tell. But I can also tell when it is just noise !!!!

I am not an expert but I get by.

  5. I have modified 4 F150's all 5.4's with exhaust, FIPK and chips or programmers. I received nothing more than an extraction of money from my wallet. The sound was appealing and all four seemed to feel more responsive, however any claims of HP increase could not be verified by the seat of my pants. 10% increase is hard to feel no mater who you are.

I enjoyed modifying all my previous Trucks some cars and my Bikes. I get 23-24 mpg all the time with my 07 Edge SEL+, MPH average is usually 45mph. And yes that is a lot of Highway. How else can you get an MPH average of 45 without being on the highway a great deal.

I noticed on every single one of my FIPK kits that when cleaning my filter there was always a fine dust film inside the Tube. I really enjoy K&N products in the right application, however on my daily driver I would just as soon not draw dirt into my engine. Before you dispute this claim take an oil sample to a CAT Dealer or some other place that does oil analysis and see for yourself what the dirt levels are after running an Open Air Cotton filter an a straight intake tube. I have done this several times and always had high levels of dirt with recommendations to change air filter and retest at half intervals.

They just simply aren't good for a daily driver, unless you enjoy washing your rings out of the engine.

I've been using K&N filters for years on and off road)and the only time I see dirt is when I am lazy. First of all the k&N Saves you from replacing filters now and then but they don't stop you from servicing them.

I always have had two of each Used on a vehicle. I service the filter often to keep the oil fresh and the filter clean. I don't wash them and then use high pressure air to dry them for it damages the material and creates holes. Every 1000 miles of street driving or after a weekend of camping. I change the filter with a fresh oiled one. Seeing how I don't want to wait for the washed one to dry and I like to let them sit 24hrs after oiling. I use the next filter. I put the dry spare away ( sealed) and oil it the day before I use it. on the next change.

This is how I care for my K&N filers. Agree or disagree it works for me. "Intake pipe is clean"

  6. hey guys,

Didn't know where else to post this where i could get feedback ASAP. Anyway my question is.. I'm about to hit the maintenance point for my edge to bring it back to the dealership. I have about 15,000 miles on it. But My question is how much miles do you have and how many times have you done routine mileage maintance on your edge through ford dealerships?and also how much did you come on your pocket (Pay) for each one if you remember.

Thanks all feed back is greatly appreciated.

I have 8600 miles on my 2008 AWD factory recommends (7500 mile intervals)

I drive about 600 miles a week so I am following the heavy duty schedule - Or whatever it is called.

Normally I would do my own work *** I was given the Maint. Plan for the first 30,000 as part of the purchase I think the normal cost of the every 5k service plan is $480.00

I have only been in for the 5000 mile service

Drew Ford in El Cajon Ca said the cost of the 15000 mile maint is $55.00

  7. Its not that loud! There is a low rumble at idle but if you rev up the engine in neutral the rumble goes away. In gear under a load it sound like a stock 350z

You put your foot into it and you hear and feel performance but the radio stilll sounds good. The whole system has a deeper tone.

Slightly louder driving at 65 with traffic. More than slightly louder under throttle. ( medium Louder. ) My friend will increase or decrease the noise by changing the frt muffler length. (or remove all together)I need to see if as time goes on if the system gets too loud.

I just didn't want the civic loud raspy sound so I thought I would stick to a classy tone with this one. People still look when I get on it.

My Friend James is used to me wanting loud V8 performance exhaust but this one is tame. all my other cars set off alarms as I drive by. and they have all been V8's

My Daughter did her Mits. Eclipse really loud. I don't think the Edge needs to be loud just throaty and strong. When I opened the air filter I noticed a good match for the exhaust. the increased air flow helped with the tone also.

I wish I had a programmer. In my Ford truck I was able to advance the timing, change shift points in each gear, and change the speed limiters to 128mph.

I just ordered: Evolution Performance, Inc. Custom Tuned SCT X3 - 2007-2008 Ford Edge

I can't wait to see how the SCT x3 will improve performance

  8. Looks really good!!! how much louder than stock is it? hardly noticeable in cabin? slightly louder at speed? i'd like something different for ours, but i know if it's very loud the wife will only complain, complain, complain.

  9. nobody seems to make a really good one of these yet, but I'm not sure how great of an improvement there would be in the Edge as some other vehicles, as others have wondered too. I saw one setup for sale, I think on eBay but was not overly impressed. it was sort of a universal looking intake

I've seen some of the universal kits on the web

Still waiting. I also talked to K&N but they said no Idea on a time frame

I find that if more people would call and request a part the company may respond sooner.

  10. I went to wash my car and take photos. I then tried to post the photos and got an error. I then cut the picture size down and sent one - error!!!

The exhaust was custom built not a bolt on.

3” system Center and a rear muffler two Tips all four parts were stainless steel w/ life time wty

and then they made the rest of the pipe while I waited

Bullet muffler is all that is on the invoice 287.70

My friend James said the back two mufflers are baffles the single front was the muffler. (original system)

He showed me the system in the book. The illustration in the bullet parts guide showed a single rear muffler with One in and two out a straight flow glass pack type front muffler.

James said the two rear muffler- baffle - ? Were real restricted

James said that the muffler used was the same part # as used in Camaro systems. Single 3” in and out to two tail pipes

I replied twice now and don't see it HMMpost-3706-1209770424_thumb.jpg

  11. Was this a bolt on kit, or did the shop do custom work? How much did it run you total? Which Mufflers did you use? It's kindda confusing in your post.

  12. I forget the exact term (silencer?) but yes, it's there to reduce noise. Not exactly a muffler but serves the same function.

Yes it can be removed. I add aK&N filter then I turned my baffle and twisted it slightley which loosened it than it snaped out with out breaking anything!

I then added a flex hose to force some coola ir into the larger hole. The car sopunds like I have an intake sytem.

  13. 2008 ford edge Limited AWD

I have 8400 mile about 1000 miles ago I added Exhaust and a k&n Filter

My Power increased and my mileage increased. The noise level is perfect for me.

I use flow master years ago but about 1999 I switched to Bullet Stainless steel systems on my cars. I owned a business next to this muffler shop.

Flow master had failed the second time in three years no wty

Bullet stainless was life time is the 1st reason for the switch. Second reason 150 - 250 for cat back systems.

Ok so now I took my edge in and did the cat - back they installed strait through Res. for the frt and a single stainless in the rear coming out with two tail pipes. The tail pipes were dual wall stainless. The recommended Muffler for the Dynaflow system as it was called. The sound is like that of a 350z as posted with other systems. It isn't as loud as my f150 4.6v8

The noise level is perfect for my wife. I added the K&N air filter and removed the side baffle which is allowing good air flow. I have made an elbow forth air box to force air in as the side baffle only stuck out to the side.

I couldn't find a good intake system avail as of yet. K&N said none yet and no est on prod.

The edge now has a stronger top end, quicker take off. Throatier sound, better gas mileage

So to me the change was worth the expense Just the sound improvement is worth the cost, at least for me. I like to hear my cars.

  14. FWD will not only get slightly better fuel economy but also be a bit quicker than an AWD due to the drag by having 2 differentials.

    2008 edge limited AWD

    20" wheeels

    Bullet exhaust sytem

    K&N air filter

    Southern Ca. Driving

I live East of San Diego Up In the foot hills. Every day I drive up this three mile hill. I have put over 8000 mile in 4 months.

After the first 3000 miles I was getting around 14 - 15mpg I just did the mods to the exhaust and air filter around 1000 mile ago. now Iam getting 16.8 and 17.2 around town. If I take my foot out of it and use the cruise (freeway driving only) I get a little more than 22mpg

  15. My wife and I got a 2008 Ford Edge about a month ago. Its an SEL with Vista Roof, regular 17" wheels.

We love everything about it BUT...

We are getting much lower MPG than estimated. Now it was listed as 16 City / 24 Hwy. I understand that these are estimates and averages BUT...

we are getting about 14 MPG PERIOD. This is probably about 80% city driving 20% hwy driving. We don't drive aggressively.

The car IS new (only 900 miles on it). Is it possible there is a problem with the car? Should we take it into Ford to check out?

Or is this normal, will the mileage improve? I'm seeing people on this forum averaging 17 - 18 in the city. I'd be totally fine with that.

    Please advise. Thanks!

This is my first time to post anything

I bought an 2008 edge limited AWD in Jan of this year, The gas usage was pretty bad at first. I researched first before I bought. I knew the milage wasn't going to be too high.

At first I got around 12 - 13 mpg then around 4000 mile I started getting 14 1/2 . This was around town driving. After reading other forums I started trying better gas. I started getting 15 to 15 1/2 and 20 freeway. but also the car had more miles by now The milage increased as the vehicle broke in.

Now I have 8400 miles. I have put an K&N air filer in place of the stock air filter and I put bullet exhaust system (mild noise) My milage for the last two tanks has been 16.8 and 17.2 around town. Every day I end up driving this three mile hill about 2000 foot climb ( bad on gas). I also got 22 mpg on a trip doing 70 - 80 depending on traffic.

So I am happy with what I have experienced so far. I love the handling of my AWD I went two month on a muddy road to get home. I ended up parking my f150 for the time it was rainy.

    I hope this helps
