  1. Hi All,

I have a 2016 Ford Edge Sport (love it), but I have noticed that occasionally my phone won't work with hands free calling. I've had the issue pop up on several occasions. The first time it happened, I was on the phone and received a second call. Once I tried to answer the second call, I could no longer use the hands free for either call.

The most recent time it happened, I used the voice command to place a call, but then I couldn't hear anything through the speakers. I did double check to make sure the volume was up (obviously), and it was but I had to go back to having the sound come through the phone only.

Just to round out the information, I have an iPhone 6 if that makes any difference.

Has anyone else experienced issues with Sync 3 and hands free calling?

  3. I didn't see anywhere where you mention if your Edge is AWD, but one thing that I keep thinking is that perhaps your PTU is leaking. When I bought my 2011 Ford Fusion Sport, I drove it home, and when I would get to a stop light I noticed the smell. I attributed it to a new car burning stuff off, but the smell was still present at 600 miles. Moral of the story the PTU seal was leaking from day one. I don't know if this will help with your situation, but mine smelled almost like a garlic type smell. I'm sure someone else like akirby who is more familiar with the PTU leak, can try to give a better description of the smell, but seeing as this thread hasn't seemed to solve your problem, I figured I'd throw out another possibility.

  4. Looks like the 2016 Build and Price is out on the Ford website.

I am going to do a Shadow Black or White Platinum Sport (any thoughts???)

    401A package

    21" Wheels

    Cargo Accessory Package

Cold Weather Package (bummer that heated steering comes with all weather mats, because I'm still going to get the weathertech mats)

    Adaptive Cruise Control

  5.

It'll feel like every other car you've ever owned.

Only it will have cost him extra money for a feature that doesn't work.

Also, it will feel like ever other car he's owned, unless he owned a car that had functional cooled seats, such as the Chevy Silverado or any Mercedes that offers cooled seats. Yes, I know a Benz is going to cost a lot more money (and a lot more if you ever need a non-warranty repair), but the fact remains both of those vehicles have an intake and exhaust on the back portion of the seats instead of keeping the TED covered by the seat back. The current TSB on the F-150 and on the Edge add an intake but don't add an exhaust, so the hot air exhausted by the TED doesn't leave the seat back. twakefield over at the F-150 forum developed his own fix for the F-150 seats that performs far better than the Ford fix (see the images he's posted on the F-150 forum that show the temperature). Until the hot air exhausted by the TED is pulled out of the seat back, the seat will never function as intended, but Ford will continue to argue that it functions as designed. Sadly, the design is a poor design, and Ford won't fix it unless they are bombarded with complaints.

  6. Myself I don't worry too much because I lease, but if I was buying I think i would take these forums with a grain of salt. With all the new tech on cars nowadays I couldn't see myself sticking with one for 5+ years.... would feel like i'm driving a Packard Bell if you get that reference :)

BTW I love my Edge Sport

I miss my old Packard Bell! I used to play Mega Race on it all the time as a youth.

  7. The cooled seat issue is not a real issue IMO. Yes, they don't work as designed but it is more of a creature comfort vs. how the vehicle functions. That is more of a personal thing.

Well I would agree with you about the cooled seat issue if Ford was just giving that option away, but since it is part of a package that costs $3,700 I would consider it a concern. With that being said, it won't deter me from making a move on a 2016, if Ford would ever get them on the market, I will just have to hope Ford issues a second TSB to fix them.

  8. Help me out on this: There was once a concern about having to replace all of the tires on an AWD vehicle if one of them were damaged past the point of a repair and there would be (not sure of the actual number) say more than 3/16" in dia. between the new tire and the old ones. I seem to remember reading that even slight differences in tire diameter causes the car's computer and drive-train to do things that would harm the drive line. Is this still true today? If this is true, that would be a big financial hit if it were to happen.

Yes, you do need to keep your tires within 3/16" front to back, or you do risk damaging Ford's Power Takeoff Unit. I recently had an issue where my PTU had a sever leak (2011 Fusion Sport 53,000 miles with a previous warranty claim on it), and a dealer tried to void my powertrain warranty based on the tires. Luckily, I had it towed to another dealer, who measured my tread depth (it was in spec), and determined the severe leak was the problem, not a tire issue.
