  1. What do you do to prevent theft? Do you have a car alarm? Are you careful where you park?

I had the Pioneer Avic 700bt and it was stolen in plain daylight while eating lunch at a restaurant. It was partially my fault for parking somewhere secluded where it also had huge signs of how the restaurant is not responsible for auto theft. I did not see the signs nor did I know that this restaurant was known for that. But now that I have been through that and have my new Pioneer z110bt, I got a black wooden cover to place over it while parked. And I am also very careful where I park and am more aware of my surroundings. Even so, should I add an alarm to my car? Many people tell me that if someone wants to steel my stereo it will be stolen regardless, so I have not purchased one because of those comments.

Let me know what you think or how you handle/take care of your own against theft.

    Thanks!

  2. I have this same unit as well and well, I don't know all the technical terms you were referring to, but I have a DVD above also and it is neat the way I can play movies that are on my ipod (in my middle compartment box) and have them mirrored to the rear screen automatically. It is awesome. It also works vice versa where if my kids put in a DVD in the back, I can also view it in the front.

The mic for phone conversations works well also. Much better than the last unit I had (previous model Avic). It syncs well with my iPhone.

I purchased and had this unit installed from a local Audio store here in Houston, TX. They have installed this unit and the previous model I had prior to it which was stolen not to long ago.

  3. has anyone installed the Pioneer Z11 navi?

Yes, I have installed a couple of months ago. I used to have the older model since June 2008 when I bought my car, but it was stolen in plain day light while I ate lunch at a restaurant and now since insurance covered, I had installed the Z11BT. It is AWESOME! I have loved it from the start.

  4. Is this the same as alignment? Mine were perfect when I bought it and then within the first week I was still adapting and was having trouble estimating the largness of the vehicle and I clipped a curve with my front wheel. After that it kept shifting to the left on the highway only. So, I told them they aligned it. But I sort of feel as if it is beginning to shift to the left again after a couple of weeks. I am frustrated too even though it's not much to go on. I didn't know it could be the tires.

Anybody ever have an issue with aftermarket wheels getting out of balance frequently? I've had my new wheels on for only a couple months, and have already had them balanced twice. Getting a little frustrating. I'm not sure what the problem is. I hope somebody might have some recommendations.

    Thanks!

  5. Been lurking here for a month or so after debating on getting a Fusion for a few months. Love the Fusion (ride, style, etc) but with 2 kids, traveling from time to time, felt something a little bigger but similar would be the right way to go. Found it in the Edge!

Have always loved the Copper/Burnt Orange color that you see on Muranos, Corvettes, etc and I just so happened to pull into a local dealer and there it was... Beautiful...

Sticker price was $34,120.00. With A-Plan and some additonal discounts by the dealer (sitting on his lot for 5 months, wanted to move it) above and beyond the A-Plan price, got it down to $28,100.00. They contacted a local custom stereo shop and saved me $200 by going thru them to get the A/M DVD Headrests installed so that bumped it back up $29,500.00. My wife is VERY frugal and she loved the deal so I signed the dotted line!

Not sure what else I should type, just wanted to introduce myself. Have chatted via PM with NYEdge and love some of the stuff he and Lex (SoCal) are doing as well as a lot of the rest of you!

I'm here to learn and when/if I get something done - share!

Welcome aboard and congrats on your new Copper Edge! I also love the color. When I got to the dealer and told them I wanted a Copper ford, they said, you mean the color that no one else wants? Not your typical way of getting a sale, but I agreed and said, yes, that one. They gave me a good deal on the SE as well because it had been sitting there a big long too. Enjoy your new Edge! Andry

  6. I sent them pictures in e-mail of the faulty bumper saver they sent me. I will have to now buy the Edge one that is more a sticker than a bumper saver. Here was there reply:

    Subject: Faulty Bumper Saver?

I purchased a Bumper Saver for my Ford Edge and when I was about to

install I noticed all the cracking and flacking of the top layer of

the plastic. Whatever the material might be, it is cracked and pieces

of it are coming off. Please let me know if I get a replacement that

it will not be like this one. I really like the thickness of it.

    Thank you.

  7. Has anyone who bought this bumper saver from Auto Sunroof of Larchmont experienced getting a faulty one? Mine has the top black layer cracking and flaking all over the place. I noticed it when I was going to install it with my husband. At first we thought it was just where it was folded in half in the box, but paying more close attention I found the whole thing was cracking and soon to be flaking too. It's weird. They told me to take a picture of it. I forgot to last night, but I will tonight. I hope if I get another that it won't be this way because I really like it. It's thick and sturdy looking.

  8. Wrong info Blazin... I was in my edge with the ford tech when I programmed and unprogrammed it. There is a code they can see on their scanner that it has been tampered with, whether or not the tune is still in there.

Fakesnake, you can adjust the tire size on your programmer, just say yes when it asks if you want to adjust parameters before you program the vehicle.

PS. someone needs to make a sound financial decision and purchase my tuner!!!!

Okay, so does this mean that the Ford Dealer Tech's had a problem with the fact that they knew it had been adjusted? Will it eventually be a problem if something is wrong with your car?

  9. Okay, I know no one likes my after market leather seats, so need to comment on those. But I had camel interior before leather seats were put in and I paid $400 to change my camel carpet to charcoal. I mean, there was a small black stain already on the seats when I purchased the car, plus the first day my kids got in the car the carpet was marked with tennis shoe foot prints. I could tell it was not going to be good. So, I made the decision of swapping out the carpet. And since I'm kind of all out of money I left the camel floor mats for as long as they will last me without looking totally horrible. So far so good and I love the way everything inside the car is two toned. The camel mats look good. It's sort of the opposite of what everyone else is talking about here, but it works for me.

I also have the weathertech mat in the cargo area and to answer the person who wanted to know how folding down the seat and the mat getting in the way works out. For me, it has not been a problem so far. I folded the larger section of the second seat down to put in my photography studio lights and the lip that sticks up right at the edge of the mat actually helped me so that the lights did not slide all the way to my dash. :-) So far so good.

  10. Mine will say Andry and they already have them at the court, except they will not give them to me because supposedly my VIN # is not registered yet with the state with the Andry plates. Something of the sort. They said it will take a month or two before I can pick them up and put them on my car. :-(

I used to have Andry on my first Ford Ranger Splash (red/orange) truck when I was 16 to about the time I was 18. Now I will have them on my Copper Ford Edge. I can't wait. I skipped putting them on my two mommy mobile minivan's that I had. Didn't fit.

My small business is Andry's Photography, so it works just perfect. :-)

Okay, so, I received my plates and it seems to be the bad luck that I have...nothing I've ordered for my car I have gotten just the way I would want it to be. I never figured the specialty plates too!

They are no longer embossing the letters in the plates anymore. Are they doing this just in TX? I mean, my dealer plates were embossed, why not the specialty plates. Supposedly that is the way things are going to be from now on. But my regular plates that came in before to the dealer are embossed and it hasn't been that long since then.

So, I did something illegal. Since I used to have the same plates many years ago and I had kept one that I had previously lost and then found after the rear plate had already been turned in, I put on my old embossed plate in the rear of my car. Sure it doesn't have the same Texas in Blue (like as the license plate #) and sure it has the little squares embossed on each corner for when we used to use stickers on the plates, but they are empty now and it is the exactly same number (letters) on the plates. So, I hope I don't get in trouble for it. :-)

  11. I waited longer for this car than I drove it. Bummer. Just thought I would share. It looks bad on the outside, but the inside held up pretty well.

Okay, lets say there was a passenger in that seat, as there normally is a child in that spot in my case. What do you suppose would have been the damage that person? Cut by glass I could tell, but would they have been smooched with metal and seat, or maybe bruised? What do you think?

  12. though I do not have roof rails, going just on what I have seen in the past and had on past cars, and IIRC looking on the lot at one time, you will unbolt them and there will just be the threaded holes/nut in the roof and you can put on a cap/plug from the dealer.

I would be shocked if it was not that simple. if it is not, that implies they have to build different roof systems for those that have roof rails and those that do not. (not to mention yet another roof for the BAMR). I suspect you can buy any non-BAMR Edge without rails and go buy the roof rails and pop up some plugs/covers and bolt them on yourself, so the opposite should be true. They would want to make this stuff plug and play so it makes total sense to have 1 roof for BAMR and roof for non-BAMR and that roof can have rails or not.

I wonder why the dealer can't answer this question for you? they don't know if they can get you the car, remove the rails, put in the caps, deduct the rails from the price, and sell you the car you want? that is odd.

I got the one with rails and really don't want them either. We tried taking them off but didn't know the first thing on what to do. We also realized we did not have the right tools.

I would have loved to have a Copper Spoiler as apposed to rails. I wonder why some cars have black spoilers and some have the same body color tails. I can't even have it painted because it wouldn't be the same texture. :-(

  13. Mine will say Andry and they already have them at the court, except they will not give them to me because supposedly my VIN # is not registered yet with the state with the Andry plates. 14. It's right there in the message center - just hit INFO until it shows up. Reset it when you fill up.

Oh, I didn't know it had an info center. I lost my manual before I could read it. So, even the SE has an info center? I'll take a look today.

  15. Exactly why we didn't get this

    Monochromatic Black Body Color Grille

disclaimer: we don't work for Ford and definitely didn't get it for free.

So you think it will be tacky even just leaving the Katzkin without the letters that follow? I kind of like it. Maybe I'm a tacky person though. I had the option of putting on my own logo, but since I do not keep my cars very long, after a few years I figured nobody wanted a car with my logo stitched in the seat. I thought it looked sportier with the Katzkin letters, as long as they take off the other line and lettering underneath.

  16. Hi Andry. :D If you read your Owners Manual, you will see that the Edge is built to run on 87 Octane gasoline. Using an Octane level any higher than that is wasted money, and can even adversely affect how your Edge runs.

The engine management computer (PCM) in the Edge is not programmed to take advantage of higher Octane gasolines. So using 89, 91, 93 Octane gasolines is just throwing your money out the tailpipe.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

Wow, I have a lot to learn. Never heard of this Octane stuff. So, are we saying that Regular gas at Chevron is the 87 Octane gas? And what if I stopped at any other gas station where their mid grade is the same price as Chevron's Regular, is that the same as the 87 Octane. Now that I'm saying all of this, I do remember seeing 87 and other numbers on the button to choose the grade level. Never paid much attention to that. Guess it never mattered with the old cars I was driving. :0)

Thanks for the help. I lost my owners manual the first week I got the car. I think it's in a bag when I cleaned it out to get the rental when getting my leather seats put in. :-( I need to find it. I have been wondering whether or not I should be keeping the Overdrive on or off on the highway because it sort of felt smoother/lighter when I had it off.

  17. How much were those katzkin seat covers, i like them.

If you go to one of their retailers you can probably get some between $900 to $1500 installed. It depends what you want. There are many options. There are also nicer leathers, I got their lowest end. They have their Suede Skins that are really nice and only about $100 more. Go to their website to find more info... www.katzkin.com. They actually tear off the cloth to install these. They don't look like covers at all. Really nice.

I got mine through the actual dealer. I paid $1300 I do believe although I would have gotten them included for free had I gone with the upgraded SE that had Sync and Satelite radio etc. They had added the leather package that would be installed for the discounted price they were already giving me for the car. But I still got a good deal on this one at $23K+Leather $24K. Not bad.

  18. I'm new to buying gas at Chevron, but now that I bought this Edge, I would like to give it some good gasoline other than my usual Kroger, HEB or Valero.

I noticed that the mid grade is as much as the higher grade from the places I'm used to.

Can someone please tell me what grade gasoline will be okay to put in my Edge from Chevron? I put in the middle grade from Chevron, the next one up from Regular and it was a little over $4 bucks per gallon this morning.

Anyone who can educate me on this would be wonderful.

    Thanks,

    Andry

  19. I put up pictures on my profile gallery. Stuff I have done and stuff I'd like to add and stuff that's being swapped out.....

I added but will be replaced:

    1. AVS Side Window Deflectors - Switching them out with Ford ones, I did not like these glued on ones.

    2. Front AVS Bug Shield - Again swapping for Edge brand and even then might not keep it at all, I don't really like the looks of it which the only reason I bought it. for the sporty look.

    3. Custom Katzkin Leather Seats - Getting front two seats replaced because I requested the Katzkin be printed on the leather not their entire company name. It's enough that I'm already giving them some free advertisement, they had to go and ruin it. They will be replaced next week.

    Taking off/replacing:

    1. I don't like the look of the racks and have a feeling I will never use them, so I'm taking them off. Not sure if I will sell them yet though.

    2. Would like to replace the wheels with bigger ones, but maybe next year.

    3. Would like to replace the stereo because I didn't want to pay for Sync, but I do want a USB connection for my Ipod. :-(

    4. Will probably replace the camel mats that it came with with something else.

    Purchased but not using:

    1. I purchased the side door moldings, but I will not be putting them on after all. Do not like the looks of it when I taped them on....see pictures. I think I will risk going without them. (door dings) I will send them back if I don't find anyone in Houston who wants them.

    Waiting for delivery:

    1. Bumper Protector - will add when it gets here.

    Added:

    1. Side door protectors.

    2. Weathertech Cargo Liner

    3. Black carpeting because it was camel.

    4. Covered the center console as well because it was camel too.

  20. What kind of MPG do you get?

Here's our's, I estimate 60/40 (highway/hard core red lights) we drive between 60 and 70 MPH on the highway.

Dealer provided 1st tank was, Computer 18.9 hand calculated 15.4 I suspect the tank wasn't really full.

    2nd tank..................... ............Computer 19.9 hand..................20.5

    3rd........................................ ...................20.0............ .............18.1

    4th............................................ ...............19.7............. ............18.9

    ab

I have no clue what MPG I get or how to estimate it. Sorry, I haven't done my research on that part. I hear it's not really great for others who drive an edge anyway, so i don't even bother trying to figure it all out.

Yes, they did fill my first tank.

  21. I personally don't care for the look of the WeatherTech of AVS because if you look at them, they over hang at the edges, rounded over hangs even worse, and that just looks cheap to me. I like the fact that the Ford one stops at the hoods edge, has a straight edge and thus blends with the hood panels edge line.

BTW.. would still love to see someone with a Ford brand bug deflector mounted on their white sand tri coat :)

They do hang over the edges. I do not like it. I do hope that I like it once they switch all the deflectors to the Ford Edge brand, I feel like now that I don't like these I won't like the other ones either. But really, they look sooo cheap looking.

Hope it doesn't ruin my car getting the side ones off.

  22. Is your Edge an All Wheel Drive? That would explain the difference in power.

The hood should be nice and warm after driving 20 miles. BUT not if it was cool and you just moved it a few feet, sounds like an electrical problem. Have you looked under the hood?

I wouldn't wait till next Monday to take it in but if you do you might want to carry a Class C fire extinguisher.

    ab

Okay, this is what I have learned since my last post which I forgot to tell the post to notify me in an e-mail when someone replies....

    - It is not an AWD nor was the loaner. I'm still wondering if it has something to do with the overdrive?

    - The burnt smell and heat was from the leaking gasket of the PTU? Not sure if I'm saying that right but I did find a very long thread about it where many are having this same problem. Mine went away, not sure what this means?

    - The swooshing is gone too and the brakes that felt like the traction was on.

    - Overall, much better, just still a little dragging, and horrible gas mileage. Must also be the way I drive though.

  23. I hear that holes need to be drilled into the hood, not sure how that works, but I would imagine they would be drilled underneath the hood. Does this mean that I can still change my mind about the bug shield I just added?

I'm not sure what to do. I know that as soon as I saw the bug shield and side window deflectors of AVS brand, that I did not like them. They were already installed. I told the guy at the auto store that I didn't like them and if could please order the ones I had asked for in the first place - the Edge ones. He said he would do that for me....except, I'm afraid that the Edge will will have different holes and they will have to make new ones and also that the side deflectors which have this thick and ugly edge on top that is the part that sticks to the edge of the window trim will not be easily taken off. I don't even remember it looking this way on any other cars I have had. Is this normal? The thick edge that is glued on to the car?

Can someone post close ups of their side deflectors that are not AVS?

Thanks. I was really not satisfied and hope it doesn't ruin my car to swap them out. I will try and take some pictures of it tonight with the AVS shields on it.

    Andry

  24. I recently added an AVS Bugdeflector to our 2007 Edge. I bought the clear version and then sprayed the back side with matching body color paint (redfire metallic) and it looks great! A lot better than just having a black plastic one on the front.

As for drilling holes, I too was worried about drilling into our new hood, but once you look at the hood, it only takes 2 or 3 small screws and the hood is already made to be drilled. No problem. Did not use the bumpers.

Hi there, I noticed you said that you added the AVS Bug deflector. I had this and side window deflectors added to my copper edge, except I didn't know you could paint them and all that. I am interested in seeing a picture of yours. Can you show me a picture?

I hate the way it looks because it looks like it is a lot bigger than the one edge sells. I had asked for an edge one and was told that AVS is a better brand and would be low profile. I don't have a picture yet, but I've already asked them to replace it with the Edge one and it will be replaced next week. I would love to see how yours looks.

    Thanks,

    Andry
