  1. As the OP indicated, it's not so much the dirt that gets in there, but rather the ice, snow and salt. Keeping the area clean is a pain but not a problem in the southern climes, but is a challange when it's -20. So as indicated above, cleaning it is not the solution, but only a temporary measure, especially if you drive in the northern climes everyday..... It is an unfortunate oversight by Ford that the owners are stuck with!

Because the door meets the wheel well, and creates the wheel well, there is no solution. If there was a body panel behind and below the door we would have this problem but because the door is the lowest and farthest back body panel its gonna happen. Its annoying yes, but if you clean regularly you should be fine. I have to deal with red clay in that area here in hawaii and Ill admit its a pain in the butt and requires special attention but its not a major issue of mine.

  2. 2016 Edge. Has anyone yet installed a bug deflector or other protection on the front of their hood on the 2015 or newer Edge? If so, which one did you use and what are your opinions of it? Need to do something as the paint is getting chipped from sand/gravel they are putting on the roads in the winter. Almost seem like poor paint as it seems to be chipping away easier than other vehicles we have/had.

    TIA

  3. Yes, in Canada.

So do the HID's work with the capacitors as DRL's? I wasn't sure they'd work with the lower voltage supplied for the DRL's? Can you order the capacutors as part of the kit?

    Thanks again

Are you in the US or Canada? In the US you have the option to disable your DRL in the left menu on your gauges. If you're in Canada DRL are mandatory so that function is not available. Because our projectors act as both the low beam and DRL, you will need capacitors to prevent flickering and to prevent the pulse voltage which will make your DRL not work. The capacitors make your computer believe there is a halogen bulb in the housing and won't cut off power.

  4. Can you provide me with a bit more info on this "upgrade"? I've been considering either HID's or LED's but being the DRL's are tied in, I've been hesitant to move forward with it...

    Thanks

I just switched mine to HIDs as well. It's a Morimoto 6k kit and I used the halogen projectors. Had to add capacitors because of the day time running lights in Canada. I drove in front of my car and did a couple of oncoming runs using my wife's car, and they are not blinding at all (part of the reason I went with 6k versus the 4300k the OEM ones are. Very happy with the results!

  5. When you changed out your bulbs, did you find it easier to remove the headlight assembly to get at the bulb or the other stuff surrounding the rear of the light assembly?

    Thanks

Yes for months, no issues other than brighter more usable light. The tips of the stock h11 bulbs have a coating on it that doesn't put out nearly as much light as the H9's. The H9's don't have the coating & produce more light. I'd be interested to see what the lumen ratings are between the two. The stock bulbs are also Long Life so they also don't put out nearly as much light as a normal H11

Are they comparable to HID's? No. But they are a lot cheaper & with a few modifications, fit into the stock housing. Best mod for the money!

  6. I too am in Canada where the H11 lowbeams are also the DRL's, but with reduced voltage. That kind of limits my choice to a halogen replacement bulb instead of HID or LED's. There's an option to convert H9 bulbs to replace the H11's that I'm thinking of trying. The H9's supposedly give a bit more light without the risk of melting the wiring etc. Anyone done this yet? Or run HID or LED's with DRL's?

Can anyone advise me what type of replacement bulb I would need to make the headlights brighter? WE are finding they are not quite as bright as could be especially lighting road side.

    2016 SEL.

    Thanks

  7. I purchased 16 edge sel and I'm looking for recommendations for floor mats besides the weathertech which I've had before in an escape and didn't think they were worth the money(I'm sure many will disagree). I'm thinking of trying huskys.

The ones that came with the vehicle dont cover much. Tia

I agree the Ford mats don't cover much, especially on the drivers side. We ordered the optional all weather ones, but they ended up being the same size as the originals, just wasted our money! And while they are expensive, ended up going with the WeatherTechs. Happy with them as they fit well and cover a lot more area, again especially on the drivers side. Are the Husky ones that much cheaper?

Just completed the swap from stock to LED in my 16' Edge, installed was extremely simple and light output is great. I need to modify the dust caps to allow the onboard fan of the LED module to breath but the unit itself is waterproof (I have the wires hidden and sealed where water cannot get to it)

Personally, it's worth the upgrade, it does throw a good amount of light on the road.

Are you in Canada where the H11's act as the DRL's with reduced voltage? At least I assume it's lower voltage as the lights get brighter when turned on....

Where did you get the LED's from?

    Thanks,

  9. well, halogen bulbs are going to give you the most usable light since it's in a halogen projector. Though you wont win any cool points for the yellow bulb color. HID will work, not ideal but can get by with minimal glare for oncoming traffic. LED isn't going to do anything for you in a halogen projector, to properly use LED bulbs you would have to retrofit in a OEM setup from another headlight.

Thanks for the input, Nick. I didn't realize there were different projector lens for the LED bulbs. LED's are not an option as far as I know on the Edge, although HID's are.

Hopefully someone else who's done the swap will have some more info.......
