  1. That is NOT what it says. It says "some" meaning there was probably a bad batch of cores with the problem - not ALL of them. It was most likely a change to the production process or human error that occurred recently.

    Obviously a process issue where some heater cores either had too much flux applied or did not get it all thoroughly cleaned away or a combination of both.

    Ford probably has an ide as to build dates of the heater cores themselves, but with process variations it is difficult to pinpoint after the fact unless they have evidence of a process change which may have contributed to the problem, or knowledge of a process monitoring system that failed.

    Once that heater core was approved by Ford the manufacturer would have to notify and get sign off for even minor process changes.

  2. ok, I have a bit of an inside scoop as to the cause of this recall.

    The issue is with the heater cores themselves being contaminated during their manufacturing process.

    Some heater cores had an excess amount of flux residue that can lead to clogging of the heater core.

    This is what is causing the "loss of heat"

    Ford is looking at an alternate supplier that had previously offered a heater core that did not require any flux to be used in its manufacturing process, and thereby is not prone to this type of problem.

    This heater core is more reliable due to its fluxless manufacturing process but will cost about $5 more per vehicle.

  3. Well, I had my PTU seal fixed back in the spring, as it was making a smell once in a while.

    No leaks or visible smoke were observed.

    I had brought it in for its scheduled 16,000km oil change and mentioned to have a look.

    By the time they came to pick me up a couple of hours later it had been fixed.

    So all was great until 2 days ago...major burning smell, smoke coming out from other the car and tranny fluid leaking on my 1 year old $10k stamped concrete driveway. luckily i moved the car quckly and the sealer I applied on the driveway a month ago seemed to work.

    So now I am parking over a rubber mat and will be bookng an apoinment to fix it again.

    Funny how it started up the first night the temp dipped slightly into single digits (celsius).

  4. The "climate-controlled seat filter" would be in Lincoln MKX models with heat/cool seats.

    These seats have perforated upholstery that air blows through on the cool setting, so there is also a filter that goes along with it. Exactly where it is located I have no idea.

    Does anyone know what the price is on the Cabin Air Filter?

  5. My 08 AWD has about 11,000kms on it.

    I have smelled a burning smell kind of like burning rubber on 4 different occasions now when parking after a run on the highway. I drive on the highway daily so it is not everytime.

    I have not had any smoke, or seen any oil dripping or oil marks on my driveway.

    Could the smell be coming from the brakes? it is a similar smell to when a transport jams its brakes on.

  6. I also Have a 2008 LTD AWD with 11,000 km on it.

     

    Before I bought it I also test drove a Honda CRV and a Yoyota Rav with a v6.

    The Honda could not tow my boat. The back seat area was smaller and more uncomfortable, rather cheap looking as well.

    The Toyota was not as comfortable and roomy. The V6 had plenty of power but the vehicle handling was very harsh if you stepped on it.

     

    I would rather spend an extra $20 a week in gas and be comfortable with the options that I need.

     

    I am still holding out hope for the mileage to increase.

    My previous vehicle was a 2003 Explorer Sporttrac and the mileage had a notable increase of 50 - 75 extra kms per tank after it got up to about 25,000 kms. I later added a drop in K&N air filter and the mileage went up again. When I first got it I was getting 475 to 515 kms per tank. After the increase after engine break-in and the addition of the K&N filter I could consistantly get 600 to 625 kms under similar driving conditions (This however was not durring the time of heavy snow falls and driving in 4WD).

     

    I also feel better knowing that in a small way I helped out my friends neighbours and reltives that work at the Ford Oakville plant.

  7. OK, so I have not been here for several months, and this reply is a bit late, but along the lines of what buttons do ...

     

    Shortly after getting my Edge last January, I was riding down the road with my father as a passenger, when I felt the need to use the "Pass Airbag Off" button, but it is not functional in my vehicle. A friend claims it is only an indicator light, but I am still holding out hope I can get it fixed! :shades:

     

     

    I can put a switch there if you would like.

     

    Actually I could. I designed the circuit boards that are used in those two switch assemblies.

    My previous employer of 16 years was a third tier supplier to Ford.

    The same boards with different colored lights and switch options were also used in Explorers, Mustangs, and other vehicles for a few years.

     

    Airbag would never be allowed to be defeated with the push of a simple switch. Too much liability.

    When they first put that option in pick-up trucks it had to be controlled by a key

  8. So, trying to get back to the original question....

    How difficult is it to get at the back side plugs, and what needs to be done to make it accessible?

     

    I only have 9,000kms on mine but will need to do it some day.

    Anyone seen or done a sparkplug change on an Edge yet?

  9. Has anyone thought of using a retractable cover that was actually made for a different vehicle?

    If you measure the width of what would be required in the Edge and then take a look around at used cars or autowreckers to it may be easy to determine that one already exists for another vehicle that could be transplanted into an Edge

  10. I'm thining about bringing mine in. It is very annoying. You can look at the passenger seat and see it moving back and fourth. With that, you can hear a small rattle. I have tried to adjust the seat forward and backwards, and adjust angle of the seat. nothing helps. But i can just imagine what the dealership is going to say.

     

    My 08 Edge that I picked up in August just started doing it (passenger seat rattle) the other day.

    It is definitely the seat back and perhaps the headrest as the headrest is moving as well.

    I adjusted the seat back by reclining slightly, and it stopped the rattle, but then after a passenger adjusted the seat it did it again, so I had to recline it again.

     

    My previous vehicle before the Edge was a 2003 Explorer Sporttrac with the same issue as well.

    The dealer did fix it, I believe they said that they tightened the bolts between the seat and the back and it was OK after that for about 4 years before it slightly returned. I tried to figure out where these bolts are to do it myself but could not see them without removing the upholstery which I did not feel like doing since I knew I was going to be trading it it shortly.

    I am going for my first oil change on Friday, but since that is the only issue/annoyance I do not know if I will even mention it since they will probably want me to leave it for another day to have them look at it.

    On the other hand, knowing how my dealer treats me they will probably give me a loaner for the day, so maybe I will have them take a look.

  11. Yes - that's obviously the cause and I asked the same question. They either raised the idle RPM to compensate (which most people who have had the update deny) or changed something in the transmission controls to compensate (although I can't imagine what that would be.

     

    Let me ask my former Ford transmission engineer and see what he thinks.

     

     

    FYI my Edge was built the week of August 11th 2008, and it will roll back on a slight incline if I take my foot off of the brake while the Edge is in drive

  12. If yours was manufactured after February 2008, you do not need the service, the service is for the first models, I took mine and they did nothing to it, as mine was manufactured in June. If it still rolls, it will do it for life, until they decided to change the design, no setting on the transmission will avoid a 2 tons vehicle from rolling down in incline if no brake is applied, unless any internal mechanical part is redesigned, or the rpms in idle are increased to create the needed torque, all of the above will attempt against the mileage you will get.

     

     

    Isn't the roll back due to a designed low stall speed of the torque converter?

    if so I do not see any software upgrade being very effective.

  13. BTW ... I got mine at WhiteOaks on Mavis Dr. in Mississauga, ON. Been to many other dealers and this one has treated me the best.

     

    Well it was ordered because I wanted the LTD AWD vapour silver, painted wheels. tow package,/no BAMR/no Nav and roof rails.

    Ended up tacking on remote start from the factory as well.

    The dealer had a couple of units already on order and build dates already slotted in, and they had a window of opportunity to change the options to whatever I wanted.

    Received the vehicle within 3 weeks of me telling them exactly what I wanted.

    I didn't even give them any type of a deposit. Mohawk Ford on Upper James in Hamilton :hyper:

    I have looked at other dealers mostly to check out their stock but when it comes time to actually buy I always go back there, even if I have to get them to swap cars with another dealer.

  14. I have had one in my 03 Sport Trac for a bout 3 years now.

     

    Noticed a gas mileage improvement of about 10-15%.

    It now has 134,000kms on it, and it runs fine.

    Maybe there is a little extra dirt getting in and it will not let the engine make it to 300K or 400K,

    who knows?

    who cares?

    Its getting traded in next week when my EDGE gets delivered and has served its purpose.

    That $60 filter has saved my $60 a month in fuel for the last 3 years.

     

    I'll be putting one in my EDGE.

     

    IF they were that bad, then why would they display and sell them at the Ford Parts counter at the dealership?

  15. A close friend of mine that works at the Oakville plant gave me an x-PLAN PIN.

     

    I was going to use it towards the purchase of a new 08 EDGE.

     

    Will it get me any discount off of the current promotion that Ford is offering here in Ontario called Family Plan Pricing?

     

    The Dealer is saying that the Current promotion is like A Plan pricing and since Xplan is not as good as A plan that this PIN will not get me a bettter deal.

     

    If this is so, then what is the purpose of issuing these pins at this time?
