I haven't done an RDU on the 2nd gen Edges, but they're probably fairly close to my '17 Fusion. I just used a fluid extractor to suck out the gear oil, then filled to the leveling hole. Was actually fairly easy.
I've seen tons of people say dealers mention things are "not serviceable" or not possible, but that usually means Ford just doesn't tell them to so they don't bother to look/think about it. Changing your fluids is cheap insurance especially if you DIY!
I agree, seems if it doesn't show up on a computer their lost. I'll be going to friends who has a lift and check for myself.

There is no recommendation in North America for RDU fluid change except if there is water intrusion/extended severe service. There are intervals for PTU fluid in hot climates such as South America and the Middle East tho.
But yeah, use the fill plug for both drain and fill, just like the PTU in earlier gen MYs.
Funny, the dealer told me there was no way to drain the RDU, looks like I need to crawl underneath and see for myself.
You're right in that there is no requirement in the service manual (unless water intrusion) but I have peace of mind replacing the fluids for longevity.
Thank-you for the reply.

Reading through the forum and my service manual it recommends changing the rear differential oil. I had my coolant and PTU oil changed but they said there was no drain plug on the RDU.
How are people changing this out?

Thank-you very much for the replies.
Had time on the weekend and did a thorough search. Seals were all in good shape so then looked for what could cause water to be held up and sure enough the drain holes had become plugged. I don't have a garage but do keep it very clean, even at that it's amazing how crud builds up (kind of like the door drains).
New routine is to include these in the rinse process. Still very happy with this vehicle. Not perfect but its been a solid platform.

So far my 2016 SEL has been trouble free, until today. I opened the rear hatch and water was running out of the plastic inner cover in the corner and then some from the centre. Anyone else face this issue? The rear wiper gasket looks good and the glass seal looks good. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sorry for the slow response, dealer said the two part numbers required were:
DL3Z-19A390 C
F4TZ-19G367 A
$650 Canadian for parts & install.

I'll ask the parts guy at the dealer tomorrow and let you know.

From a totally non tech person with a 2016 Edge I went into the dealer to get the $120 module to allow use of the remote start app, I was told that I would need an additional $300 module to the use of the app. It would be nice but not $420 plus labour nice.

I agree that it's a pain to clean the rear door areas in the cold, we have an indoor self clean car wash that charges a ridiculous amount to use low pressure water and soap to clean. Alternatively it's cheaper than repairing rust, I would trade it in a heart beat to stay in Hawaii and deal with red clay
2016 AWD RDU Oil Change?
in All Wheel Drive (AWD)

An update since I started this thread, I just traded my 2016 (145,00kms) for 2021 Titanium AWD. The 2016 was amazing, zero issues. I know need to figure out the best service schedule for the new one (yes, using the manual as my starting point).
