  1. We bought our 2008 MKX about a year ago and very soon after that it began shifting hard mostly between third and fourth gear. It would also shimmy when going up hills almost like it couldn't decide on a gear. Then about a month ago I got the wrench warning light. I asked about it on this forum and on Facebook and found out it was most likely the TSS and OSS sensors. I replaced both sensors this past weekend and the shimmying when going up hills seems to be gone. The problem is that the hard shifting is still there.

I have read about these issues with Edges and MKXs from a lot of different people but I haven't actually heard about anyone who solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? This is really starting to bother me. Based on what I've read this seems to be a design flaw with these cars.

  2. As a matter of fact, yes. You guys are the best. Once we complete the OSS/TSS replacement, this forum, along with the Facebook page and the videos, will literally have saved us thousands of dollars. I can't thank you enough.

By the way, I ordered both sensors today. They should arrive in a couple days. Going to do the job this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

  3. I also have a 2008, although mine is an MKX. I have been having the same issues since I got mine about a year ago. The other day it shifted hard and the wrench light came on on the dash (power train malfunction). I pulled over and shut it off and it was eventually OK. I posted about it on an Edge Facebook page and they said it is most likely the TSS/OSS speed sensors. Apparently the first few production years are notorious for this. $700-$800 repair at the dealer. It's all labor because you can get both sensors for $100. I was told that if you have one from these years they will eventually go bad. Can be done by a diy'er, but it doesn't look easy. Good luck.

  4. While driving down the highway today I felt a hard shift followed by the wrench warning light. I quickly pulled over and shut he car off for a few minutes. When I went to start it up again I felt a hard clunk, but no warning light. I turned it off again and when I restarted everything was fine... no light and running well.

A little background: I've had the MKX for about a year and it occasionally shifts hard. I also had to have the PTU replaced about 6 months ago. Last week I had to replace the cooling fan and I used the quick replacement method. I'm wondering if I could have knocked something loose while replacing the fan.

Based on other things I've read on the web, it seems like this could be an intermittent fluke that happens with Edges and MKXs. Any ideas? Also, what kind of code reader would an MKX owner buy and approximately how much do they cost? Thanks to everyone who helps on this site. It has been invaluable.

  5. I just replaced my cooling fan with an aftetmarket one. I think it was like $140. The new fan is so loud and vibrates so hard that I'm beginning to think there may be a problem. Has anyone else had this experience with an aftermarket replacement fan? Is this just because I ordered a cheap fan? I would order a higher quality one and replace the one I just got but it was such a pain to remove and install.

  6. Does anyone happen to know the bolt size (thread count, length, etc) for the bolts that hold the rear brake calipers onto the caliper bracket? When I was changing my rear pads yesterday one of the bolts snapped and the other looks pretty bad. Just want to know exactly what I'm looking for so I only have to make one trip. Thanks.

  7. I was backing up my 2008 MKX in a parking garage when a cement support pillar jumped out behind me. My upper and lower rear bumper covers were both dented and scuffed. I have been looking online for a replacement and it seems like the bumper covers for edges are less expensive.

My question: Would a bumper cover from an Edge fit my MKX? Also, does anyone know how to remove the rear bumper cover on a 2008 MKX? I saw some step by step instructions for the second generations, but nothing for first gen. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  8. 2008 MKX and

I've noticed that when I have my windows down I can hear a jingling/rattling sound coming from my rear driver's side wheel area when I go over bumps. At first I thaught it was a chain jingling on a truck behind me but soon realized it was coming from my car. I'm going to be changing my rear brakes soon and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what I should look for while I have the wheels off and the MKX jacked up.

    Any suggestions?

  9. I'm going to be installing a new cooling fan assembly this weekend. I watched a few videos and read the repair manual but I have a question I was hoping someone might be able to help with.

Some of the videos show the guy raising the front of the car and detaching a lower radiator hose from the bottom of the fan shroud and other videos only show them removing the two 8 mm bolts from either side on the top of the fan assembly. The Ford Edge repair manual says to remove the splash guard but doesn't say anything about the lower radiator hose. I plan on doing it the simple way and NOT draining the radiator or detaching any hoses. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are certain models different? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.
