  1. Sounds like you have more of an issue other than leaving your cell-phone plugged in - as it cannot draw enough power from the battery to completely drain it in 24 hours. I've got a Lotus Elise with a racing battery that can become fully depleted in a week just due to the active alarm system. Ford uses larger capacity batteries than my race battery and I've never had one go out because I left a cell phone charger or GPS or radar detector plugged up. You may want to take your battery to a local shop to have it tested and make sure it's not bad. You may also want to have your alternator checked to see if it's charging your battery to it's fullest. Leaving your cell phone plugged in - even if the socket is active - shouldn't drain your battery in a week must-less 24 hours.

  2. Hey there,

So I'm one week into owning my Edge and had some observations and questions. I gotta say I love the car so far, and I'm very happy with it, even though I'm having some things serviced this friday. I've got a few questions:

    1) Can I put in the stock nav unit that works with Sync into my Edge? Has anyone done so, and if so, can you DIY it?

    2) I noticed some shuddering when turning the car at low speeds, like say when backing out of a parking lot? Is this normal?

    3) I also noticed that power to the power connections seems to stay on even when the car is off. I plug in a portable GPS and it stays on when I leave the car. I'd prefer it'd turn off automatically, so is there a way to change this? If not, is it likely I could drain my battery by having things plugged in (phone, iPod, GPS)?

  3. I would guess it probably got wet inside. We sell car alrms and this is a common issue. Also you do have batteries in there that might need to be changed. Pull it apart and see if there is any moisture if so use some alcohol isopropryl and clean it then let it dry out put in new batteries and see how it goes.

Thanks for the response, this has only happened one time and has not been a problem since. I think it had something to do with the door being open when I tried to lock it. Since it's OK now, I'm not going to mess with trying to open the remote until it happens again.

  4. I was in a hurry and after I parked my 2008 Limited, I hit the lock button on the remote before the door finished swinging shut. Nothing happened, it didn't lock. So I pushed the lock button again, nothing, none of the buttons worked. I could only lock it with the door key lock. So I went into a store to do some shopping and I thought maybe it needed some time to reset. None of the buttons worked, so I just unlocked with the key and drove it home, it was about 30 minutes later. I got out tried again and all the buttons worked and it's been just fine for several days. So I guess I will never try to lock it before the door shuts, has anyone experienced this, or is it just my Edge.

  5. Okay, I did the BAMR light switch mod, I hooked up new wiring to make the switch light up. I removed the bolt that holds the radio antenna to put a ground wire connector that the bolt is threaded through and just reinstalled the bolt. Now I don't know if the two are connected, but my radio reception has deteriorated, especially on the right side channel. It comes and goes as I drive, it almost sounds like the speaker is blown, but it sounds fine when CDs or MP3s are playing. So is there something in the antenna connector that the bolt that I took out is now not hooked up? Did I mess something up by taking the bolt completely out, did something get disconnected? I can't see inside beyond the shield that covers the bottom of the antenna, I would take it completely out and look at it, but I'm not sure how to disconect the wires and pull it out. Has anyone taken the antenna completely out? Thanks for any help.

  6. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem with the power liftgate on their Edge.

Recently the liftgate has been reversing on its own, it opens all the way (chiming away) and a couple of seconds after opening starts reversing and closes. At first I thought something might be pushing against the hatch control button in the cargo area or on my key, but I ruled that.

Its a 2008 Edge Limited AWD and this is the first problem we have had since taking delivery last Sept.

I'm hoping its something minor, but till I get it into the dealer I'm being extra careful leaning into the back of the Edge.

Any info or feeed back would be great.

    Thanks

Yes, Ive had the same problem just one occasion, with my O8 Limited. I looked in the owners manual on page 124, just manually shut the liftgate, then use any method to power open the liftgate, let it go through a complete open-close cycle and it should reset itself and be okay. That fixed mine and it's been good for several months, I don't know what caused it to malfunction, but it's okay now.

  7. I finally changed my oil today at 5000 miles, not the 7500 recommended. I went to walmart, got the Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend, Ford filter and proceeded home to drain the hot oil. The fun started when I tried to get the old filter off. I tried a cap type filter wrench first, it kept slipping, then I tried a squeeze type clamp wrench. After partially crushing the filter, I still couldn't get enough leverage to turn it. Next I tried driving it off with a hammer and flat tip screwdriver, still didn't budge. Finally I used a 4" C-clamp tightened very tight with C on the bottom of the filter, I put a pry bar through the C and finally it turned and slowly untightened. I'm glad I didn't have to resort to the screwdriver driven through the filter, that's just way too messy. I don't anticipate the next oil change to be quite as hard, since I didn't ask "The Hulk" to tighten the new one for me. I put exactly 5 and 1/2 quarts in and that brought the level on the dipstick up to the correct level. I don't know why Ford put that filter on that tight, I guess they want you to give up and bring it back to the dealer, no way, I'm the only one that's going to touch my 2008 Copper Limited.
