  1. Part showed up last week after three months.

It is in and car is working great right now. From the repair order with codes and tests appears there was a SASM MODULE fault.. Replace sasm/clockspring. Also mentions r&r steering column shrouds and steering wheel.

Having been looking for replacement for three months test driving BMW.s mercedes' and Jaguar now realize that this is very good vehicle for the money.

Now I am wrestling with whether I should put on winter rims and snows of a smaller diameter but same overall size and tempt the steering "gods". ;)

  2. CapeDave , I tried new car idea on ford service rep in Florida. I paid for a car that should be operable and mine is not. I thought I should get a replacement .Ford said 'no way' .they know what problem is and will have fix nov 29. The said it about as callously as anyone would. Dealer says they should replace but no help coming from Ford.

I will not be ever comfortable driving the car . The least expensive option to me seems to be to get best deal from dealer on an Edge without steering option.

I generally but a new car every two years ,this is the last Ford ever..

  3. Mine is a part not the steering wheel. Dealer already fixed one car by replacing the part. They said if not for that fix they might know know what to do..

I have the part name and number but left it in Canada.

I have been told that part has to be re-engineered which is why it is not available until Nov 29.

Dealer was not comfortable with my driving even though there seemed to be no effect. He was concerned that while driving the computer might recognize fault and shift into 'limp' mode - not good.

    Dealer/Ford has supplied loaner.

Customer service rep was useless, just repeated the party line.

  4. I was very happy with the car and the steering until the fault appeared. The fault did not seem to affect the steering but the shop said driving with fault could be dangerous as the 'computer' might all of a sudden detect the fault reading and shut things down. So it sits!

My build date was late april early may going by the delivery date from the line as I don't have the car to check.

My customer care person was of no use just said nothing could be done but wait til end of Nov. I had some choice comments.

  5. I too have an issue with the fault.

I have had the edge for 5 weeks, the dealer has had it for two and one half weeks waiting for the part.

Here too the dealer was concerned about safety issue id driven.

A small dealer but they had sold three vehicles with the adaptive steering and two have had the faulty part!

    Seems to be a problem!

Some acknowledgement from ford would be nice.
