Battery is about a year old. I tried to clean the surface of all the buttons to see if there was gunk that would act like it was touching the - climate control

I have to agree with it being the blend door actuator. Very common on Fords. Everything will work pretty much normal for a while with the clicking sound before it stops completely working. Just replaced my Mom's on her 2010 Taurus with only 7,200 actual miles .
Does the ticking sound like this? https://youtu.be/yMT6CpWGUd0

Any update on this? Mine automatically turns itself to low when I have it on a manual setting

A ticking tone noise has been coming on when we start the edge recently. It has the same noise of pushing one of the hvac buttons under the sync screen. It makes the noise for about 30 seconds then stops. It also makes the noise when driving on the highway and have the a/c on at level 3 or 4. When the noise starts the blower reduces down to level 1. I can make the noise stop by pushing the temp + button for the drivers climate control. The noise comes out of the speakers. We have a 2011 edge limited with sync and dual climate control. Here is the link to the noise on my YouTube channel.

Did your panel make this noise when it was lowering itself? I think I have the same problem. https://youtu.be/yMT6CpWGUd0
