  1. Had mine done today, brought it in at 8:00 am was given a loaner to use. Got a call around 1:00pm, job completed. The dealer told me its always the right PTU seals. I had no burning smell on the way home. The part number and tsb is on the paper work, I will post it when I remember to grab it from the car.

Would love to know the part number ! I dropped my vehicle back at the dealership last Wednesday, part was to be shipped from Ford on friday. Today is Wednesday (1 week later) and still no part arrived..Not a happy camper! 4th and final try for this fix!!!

  2. I haven't had the problem on my '08 and from what the service tech at the dealership was telling me the main reason for the leak was the vendor of the seal had bad quality and that Ford had since changed vendors and since the change it was no problems.

Not sure when this dealer is talking about but my 08 AWD Limited is back at the dealership for the 4th (and final whether fixed or not) fix.

  3. Car's been at the dealer since Monday morning(now Thursday nite) Roadside Assistance towed it in. The red tranny fluid left behind in my driveway on the snow made it look like a crime scene. So the service manager is still waiting to get approval to change the entire PTU. I was told the seals are on backorder with no anticipated delivery date. I hopre the new unit is a "newly" made one, not the older POS. So, they have no loaners available(so they say) and i doubt Ford will allow a rental - shoudl I withold 1/4 of my payment to Ford Motor Credit for this lost week???

I would call Ford Customer Service and discuss the situation. They are definetly aware of the PTU problem. They may help you with a rental or some other compensation. Good Luck!

  4. Thanks for the info. I think I will write a letter to Ford tomorrow and put them on notice and see where it goes from there,,,

I called Ford today and "put them on notice" that My PTU has leaked for now the 4th and final time! They will be having someone from the customer service dept. call me within 2 day. Will update :)

  5. Hi vs08. :D I hope they can repair it correctly this time.

If they can not...the instructions on how to proceed are listed in the Warranty Guide that you were given when you purchased. There is actually an arbitration process through the BBB (BBB Auto Line Program ) that owners can use first if they wish. My understanding is that it is a very beneficial process for vehicle owners to use.

Anyway, if you can not find your Warranty Guide, you can download a PDF version here: LINK: Owner Guides Simply input your vehicle information into the drop down boxes and click "Submit". Then click on "Warranty Guide". The page numbers to access the procedures for the BBB Auto Line Program and Lemon Law problems are listed in the table of contents.

    I hope this information helps.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

  6. The truth is that this problem happens in the winter. I'll let you know after I have gone through another winter to say it is fixed for sure.

Definetly a winter thing! back in April, I had a third seal replaces. Thought this fixed my problem as I had not had any burning smell. Well I was wrong! Two weeks ago, the smell is definetly back! Brought the car into the dealer today and they confirmed that it is definetly leaking again! They have ordered another axle and seal and will try to repair for the 4th time. This will be the last time I will attempt to have this fixed. Does anyone know where I go from here to start paperwork on the vehicle to persue the lemon law ? I need as much guidance as possible as I am extremely frustrated! Thanks!

  7. OK> So i thought after the third go around of changing the seals, or acually replacing the whole unit, the burning smell was gone. Well I think it is back and leaking again. I had to run my heat (defrosters) the other day and within 5 minutes the smell was there. It i going in tomorrow back to the dealership to check if leaking. This will be the 4h time. My question is this.......Where do go fom here if I want to pursue the lemon law? Does the dealership get this final try to fix this, or do I start the paperwork prior to them making their final attempt? I ultimetly want Ford to replace this with an 09 or better Edge that dont leak...Any help would be great.......

  8. I finally got my Edge back today after having the unit replaced. I asked the part number and they said 7251. I don't have the paperwork because I have an open case due to the fact that I tried to get the 911 upgrade for Sync and they need a special cable to do the upgrade. Is the 7251 the newest unit? Also, do you usually get charged for the Sync upgrades from your dealer?

Yes there is a charge for the Sync upgrade. I was quoted 45.00. Will be done next week. :)

  9. Hello, everyone.

I added new playlists to the iPod, deleted others. I plugged it into the USB input. The odd thing is that although some of the playlist titles play back just fine, other playlist titles only briefly show up on the screen--about a second or two per title. If I let the titles continue to change like this without stopping them, they will cycle endlessly from the first track to the last and not a single tune will play. What's going on? The iPod plays every track faultlessly if I connect it to headphones or connect it to iTunes on the Macintosh. Has anyone else seen this kind of strange behavior? Does anyone know how to correct this? Many thanks.

Might want to try Syncmyride.com . You may have to sync your ipod with this program as well. I know sometimes I have to when I update my ipod........

  10. Nothing magic here - it works. Manual car washes have the same feature. It just softens the water so it doesn't leave any spots.

I've also head of people using a leaf blower to get the excess water off.

My husband uses a leaf blower and only a leaf blower on our Shelby GT500 when he washes it. Uses it for the outside and the motor as well. He will not wipe it dry....It does and will scratch

  11. Not to jinx myself, but am wondering why after my dealership replaced the whole PTU unit, it is not leaking anymore. Makes me wonder if it is fact how it is installed. I have heard and read that it is a very difficult install to do requiring "special" tools. If not installed exactly right, they will leak again......Just curious.......

  12. Update...

Gave the car a "workout" yesterday and drove it about 100 miles......Got back home, no burning smell and no leaks! So far so good!!!

Still no leaks or smells!!! :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet:

  13. Well after two weeks and two attempts of fixing my leak, I got my car back from the dealer yesterday am and so far no leaks or burning smells . The first attempted fix was to just change the seal. That did not work, so they ordered and put in a whole new PTU Unit. I will be driving it tomorrow quite a distance . This will truly test the repair. Will update....Hopefully it wont leak.
