  1. The only difference between the two is that premium has more anti-knock. If you run regular and the engine knocks, up it to mid-grade or premium.

    Remember when you used to pull in gas station and the pump attendant would ask you which gas you wanted, (regular or Ethyl), clean your windshield, check your oil (I was taught to use two fingers under the dipstick colar to push an extra quart of oil) refill the windshield washer resovior (with water of course) & check the air in your tires?

     

    Remember when we still used leaded gasoline?

     

    Raise your hand if you've ever used to phrase "get the lead out".

     

    Remember when most cars smoked a little, about one out of five were oil burners?

     

    Remember when you use to have the roll the window down and stick your arm out to signal a turn? Straight out for a left turn, right angle pointing up for a right turn?

     

    Remember when you used to "roll" the windows up and down?

     

    Remember triangular "vent" windows?

     

    Remember when windshield wipers ran on vacuum and would stop when going uphill or accelerating?

     

    Remember when radios were optional?

     

    Remember 9' long CB radio antennas that would whip back and forth when driving?

     

    Remember balloon tires?

     

    Remember 50/50 front shocks that would allow the front end to fly up in the air under hard acceleration.

     

    Remember when two-tone paint jobs were an upgrade?

     

    Remember when people would cover the upholstery with clear plastic seat covers to protect the cloth from dirt, oils and damage?

    Remember pop music where all song frequencies were were attenuated so they would play on a car's AM radio without distortion? (Chopped off the base and highs).

     

    Everyone knows the corvette & T-bird. Remember the Studebaker Lark?

     

    Remember the Nash Rambler? (It was like riding inside a basketball being dribbled.)

     

    Remember the fins on a 59 caddy which mimicked the fins of a rocket; at the beginning of the "space age"? (Now THAT was a great car).

     

    Remember cars that had "automatic" transmission's with a clutch pedal?

     

    Remember baby dish moon hubcaps?

     

    Remember "Big Daddy Garlits?

     

    No? Neither do I.

     

    I remember all of those things. I am older than dirt.

Sitting here in NW WI, looking at another 6+ inches of fresh snow...I started wondering, "If we put the Edge in a ditch, perhaps avoiding one of the mouth breathers around here who drive in the middle of the road, what does a tow truck, or a friendly neighbor with a pick-up attach to to get this thing out of a ditch?"

     

    On our Escape, there's a panel on the grill that pops off, and you can screw in a hook you can buy from Ford.

     

    I looked at the front of the Edge, no such critter.

     

    Nothing in the manual, either...All I get is this:

     

     

    ...I may be old and cynical, but I'm not convinced that tow truck operators are going to take the time to get, and read that manual before they attach something to my Edge and break off part of the bumper fascia, or bend a suspension part...or whatever.

    If I were as concerned as you, I would put a trailer hitch on it and get a toe hook for a 2" receiver and it could be towed our backward. If you are dodging oncoming traffic, you will probably go in the ditch nose first..

  3. Information on Wikipedia is public input, anybody can put it on there. I was told by a John Deere salesman that all their mowers lawn,tractors and small ag. tractors were made in India by Yanmar. John Deere could have changed manufacturers, I haven't tried to buy a John Deere product in 4 or 5 years. When I bought a new 40 HP tractor, I bought a Kabota. I personally don,t care what brand mower anyone buys. IMO John Deere does not make a good product until you get in to large equipment, $50,000 and up.

  4. John Deere has all their mowers and small tractors made by Yanmar in India, the same company makes Club Cadet and other brands. What ever you buy, I recommend that you not buy a Briggs and Stratton engine unless it is one of the twin cylinder models. The new small engines are made in China, are hard to start and don't last me more than one season. I personally like the Yamaha engines on lawn mowers, but the Kowler twins and the large Briggs twins have good reputations. The Kowler singles are junk. Good luck finding a good small mower that will last for years. Your best is probably Toro.

  5. If you have a small lot that you mow once per week, you can get by with a mower from Lowes,Home Depot, etc. If you have acres to mow and/or is rough, you need a professional quality mower. Based on the size cutter you said you were looking for, I would check out a small Gravely brand mower, I would also have to look at he Toro. I think the Toro Z turn with the stearing wheel instead of the leavers is a very good mower for small lots. I use a Gravely 52" cut and would use a 72" cut if I didn,t have so many trees and buildings on my acreage. The bigger the cut, the less time spent. During the season I mow 6-8 hrs. twice a week.

  6. Out of curiosity, at what tread depth did you replace the Latitudes? Seems the Premiere LTX is deceiving in that regard since it wears down quick initially then holds its ground for the remainder of rated life.

    Do the LTX get slippery in the rain after the initial wear down? All my experience with Michelin is with LT M/S.
