Amazing how you are willing to settle instead of recognize a poor design.

After reading people’s opinions on this forum and others regarding the Sony system, along with my own loathing of it, I returned the Edge I bought last Friday. I can’t see spending $30,000 on a vehicle with an unlistenable radio. One shouldn’t have to replace speakers, or disconnect speakers, or look on eBay for an older amplifier to get a decent sound.

I've never had a problem with factory audio, but the Sony system is by far the worst I've ever heard. I shouldn't have to replace the sound system in a $35,000+ vehicle to get something listanble.

You shouldn't have to buy an extension cable, it should've been designed better period.

I have the same problem, so it isn't the phone. I have the iPhone 7plus, and the bluetooth works fine with my bluetooth speakers. He doesn't say if he hasthe Sony sound system or not. I'd bet it's the Sony. It's the worst car audio I've ever had.

When upgrading the USB module, and to Apple CarPlay, does the iPhone sound any better over bluetooth? Or does being connected through the USB port mean that the phone will work through the USB, rather than bluetooth? Also, does the latest Sync update allow better control over the Sony audio system?

My iPhone 7 works great with my cordless headphones. However, it sounds terrible in my 2016 Edge with the Sony sound system. That problem is on Sony, not the phone. I tried it in a 2018 Honda CRV, and it sounded perfect.

From what I've read in other forums, Sony put a different amp in after the 2011 or 12 year. If you have the part #, you can find a used on on eBay, or maybe through a junk yard. People have also said to disconnect the center speaker to make it sound better. The center speaker is supposedly mono, and that is all I seem to hear. The bass thumps regardless of how I set it, and sounds separated from the rest of the mix. I just bought a used 2016 Edge Titanium, and had I listened a little better wouldn't have bought the car. My stock radio in my 2011 Honda Accord was much better. Everything sounds muddy. The sound of the blue tooth is so bad that calls or driving directions are unlistenable. Every time a different song comes on through my iPhone there is a loud "pop" at the beginning of each song. I do a lot of traveling so a listenable radio is a must. This is the worst stereo I've ever heard. The dealer ship has a 7 day like it or return it, and I hate to say I will be returning the Edge due to to the poor audio system.

I would not. I have the 2016 Edge Titanium with the 2.0 liter EcoBoost. The Sony sound system should be considered an embarrassment to both Sony and to Ford for putting it in any of their vehicles. The blue tooth through which hands free calling goes through is garbled and at such low volume, even when turned up all the way. The only way it sounds half way decent is if I turn the source audio to the USB input. I shouldn't have to do that. I came from a 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour and wish I had never traded it. Before buying this I test drove a 2018 Honda CRV. It was too cramped but the audio system was 100x better, and it was just the base system. I also couldn't get the hands free lift gate to work in the extreme cold. I don't know if it was due to the cold or what. Never mind that highway milage at 70 mph only hit 18 mpg. I now wish I'd have taken the cramped interior of the Honda over the Edge.
