I'm sure it's not by itself, but this has happened three times in six weeks and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

I've come out of a store and found my liftgate open. I keep the transmitter in my pocket with my cell and just find it hard to believe that the cell is hitting the liftgate button twice within three seconds and I'm close enough to the car.

I'm going to isoltae the transmitter with nothing else in my pocket, but it just seems strange.

  2. I have a 2016 Ford Edge which was fine until February 2020. Then my tail gate started opening on its own periodically in the middle of the night. Dealership have checked & said nothing wrong with it. Caused by outside signal interference.

Not able to open the gate is not an issue for me. My problem is with the gate coming down on it's own when you are working to organize the cargo area, or when there are little kids playing near by, potentially climbing into / out of the cargo area.

This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Has anyone else in this forum have similar experiences / concerns about their 2015 Ford Edge?

  4. We have separated the fobs leaving 1 on the counter & the other to another room & no openings. Changed them around so different one left on counter & no openings. As soon as you  put 1 on the counter & the other on a shelf above it randomly opens only in the middle of the night.  I have never left fob in the car as  parking in a carport & concerns about it being stollen. Dealership has said they have left the fob in it when they had it & no openings. It has been suggested new keys with reprogramming but dealership doesn’t seem to want to do it even though still under warranty.  They say nothing wrong.

The liftgate shouldn't be able to open if the vehicle is in gear.  Note page 64 of your owner's manual says "The liftgate only operates with the transmission in park (P)."
The best way to diagnose random opening in the garage (or when the car is shut down) is to remove triggers one item at a time to see if the behavior stops.
    1. Make sure both fobs are more than 3 feet from the vehicle (preferably much further)
    2. Find the liftgate checkbox in your left menu and uncheck it.
    3. Disconnect the 'kick to open' sensor (are you sure a cat or rodent isn't running under your car with the fob left inside?)

Beyond those items I'd suspect a short in either the liftgate or dash buttons.

  6. Hi. I have a 2016 Ford Edge & in February 2020 I started having back hatch problems. It opens up on its own in the middle of the night. It is only when I back my car into my carport & then leave  both fobs on the counter in my kitchen which is separated by the inside/ outside wall of my condo. Still under warranty but dealership  has checked it & said nothing wrong. Caused by outside signal interference.  Dealing with ford also but not much help.so far.

I have a 2016 Edge Titanium 2.0L Eco-boost. My problem is also with the lift gate; it spontaneously opened while I was driving out of the garage and caused over $2200 damage. It has been repaired but now the lift gate randomly operates: at times it opens to the 3/4 position but when that happens, you cannot close it except manually. It does not respond to the driver's pod, to the button on the lift gate, to the hands free under the bumper, or to the button on the dash. When this happens, I have to manually close it and then it may or may not open again.

Has anyone else experienced any of these issues-primarily has anyone else had the lift gate open on its own with the vehicle in motion?

    Hello.

I know this is an old post but I was wondering how this turned out for those that were having the problem with the liftgate. My 2010 edge Limited is in the shop now for the liftgate problem.

This problem has been going on since sometime shortly after I bought it new in the spring. It's happens intermittently so I have never taken it in before. My wife called one day to say that the gate goes down but then immediately goes right back up. This happens over and over. She called Ford and they could not tell her how to get it down so they were going to tow it in. I had her close it by hand and we did not have to tow it in. Over the months it has happened again and again.

The other night my wife pulled in the garage and unloaded groceries. Then she closed the liftgate with the button and then closed the garage door. I looked in the garage later to find that the liftgate had reopened again and hit the garage door putting two 6-7 inch scratches in the liftgate down to the primer. $430.00 from the body shop...

Then a couple days later I came out of the house in the morning headed for the car in the driveway. It's raining lightly outside and what do you know - The liftgate is wide open and has been all night in the driveway.

This happens at home and away from home. It happens with the key fob and with the internal buttons. The dealer has it today but called to say he was going to keep it overnight to look it over some more. He cannot find anything wrong with it. Which is exactly why I waited to take it in. I knew that they would see anything when it wasn't happening. The car is still under warranty for a couple thousand more miles.

And last but not least p my wife was on a trip when at highway speeds she heard a "high pitched vibration" that lasted several minutes then went away. a little later it happened again for several minutes. Now my son was in the car and he was thinking that it sounded like a wheel bearing (rear, possibly drivers side). Dealer is looking at that also but says they can't find anything there either.

So anyway, there is my first post for ya... What did you expect :yup:

  9. Hello. . Just wondering if your problem of tailgate lifting has been corrected. I have a 2016 Ford Edge  & just this last February 2020 this started for me. When I back in my carport at night & lock it periodically it opens during the night. Still under warranty & they say nothing wrong figure it is outside signal interference. Hoping someone can help with this problem.
