  1. Hello,

We have over 50,000 on our Edge and have not replaced the tires or the brakes yet. When i had it in for an oil change they said the brakes were only halfway gone and the tires still have quite a bit of tread left. Will more than likely get over 60,000 + outta them. Not bad for OEM tires!!! We have the 20' rims with awesome Pirelli Scorpions on them. I will definately be replacing them with the same tire. Hope this helps.

For you Edge high milers, what is the typical milage that I should expect to buy new tires and brake pads? I know it depends on many factors but just interested in past experiences. Thanks

  2. Hello,

I would recommend some Cooper Discover HT's. We put them on our first 07 edge and they were a MAJOR upgrade from the Hanjunks that came OE. They were alot cheaper in price than the other manufacturers and they come with roadside warranty where others charge extra for it. Now we have an 08 Edge Limited with the 20s on it with Pirellis scorpion tires.I really like them alot. Not sure if Pirelli makes tires in your size but i would also recommend them also. Good luck!!

I will be replacing the original tires (Hankook P235/65TR17.0) on my 08 Edge shortly and wonder if you have any suggestions on what to get or what not to get. I live in upstate NY so it will need to be an all season tire to handle the endless winter months.

I don't mind spending more for a better tire than the OE. Thanks for the help!

  3. Hello,

i am not 100% sure but i believe the edge has to have a special tool to take the serpentine belt off. if i remember right there is no longer a standard tensioner that you can just release the pressure on and take the belt off, you now have to use this tool and basically run the belt off and then run the new one back on. i had asked a ford tech when we had our 07 before getting our 08 limited and that is how he explained it to me. i have not actually looked into anymore since i do not plan on having to change it anytime soon. let me know what you find out.

So ... I searched on the forum before asking ... doesn't seem like anyone has done this on their own here.

Anyways, I was wondering if any of you know if this is like any other serpentine belt ...

Find the Belt tensioner ... take off belt ... replace belt ... reroute and push tensioner again.

Done deal ... Is there anything that is different or I should know about before tackling.

    Thanks.

  4. I'm glad they fixed the problem. I have a question though. Are you sure that the master cylinder wasn't leaking into the booster? A master cylinder can leak, but it would loose fluid externally and internally. A seal in the master can go bad and cause a sinking pedal, but not a loss of fluid. The only way to loose fluid like you said is to have an external leak.

You said that they told you the master cylinder is putting pressure on the calipers and this may have damaged them. This is how a caliper works, This could damage pads and rotors but not the calipers. Maybe you just misunderstood what they were saying, or they are wrong. I would ask for more information.

Thanks for the reply. I pick the vehicle up next week so i will have them explain to me exactly what they had to fix and why. I think what you are saying is actually what they were trying to relay to me. The service manager did say that the master cylinder was leaking internally and that it was completely full of fluid thus the reason we were loosing all the brake fluid. There was no external leak at the master cylinder that they could find, but they did notice some leaking at the calipers which led them to investigate those as well. I will repost exactly what they tell me when i pick it up. I might be confused or maybe they explained something incorrectly to me too! Thanks again.

  5. Hello,

We have a 2008 Ford Edge Limited with only 40,000 miles on it and for the last several months have been dealing with a brake problem. After giving our original dealership SEVERAL attempts to correct the problem we decided to take our Edge to another Ford Dealership (who has been top notch and extremely helpful) to have them try and diagnose the brake problems. It took them a short time to tell us that the Master Cylinder was bad and was leaking so much that it was full of fluid(our previous dealerships fix to our complaining about the brake problem was to just keep adding brake fluid, never mind finding out where the fluid was going, just fill it up and send the customer on their way!!!), since the master was full of fluid internally it was putting pressure on our calipers and they may have been damaged too. Received a call from them today and so far they have replaced the master and are keeping it for a couple days to see if any damage has been done to the calipers. The dealership contacted Ford to see what they could do and they were basically told that since we are out of warranty they cannot help us at all. The service manager told me to try calling the customer service line and see what response i would get and i got the exact same answer. Needless to say the dealership is going outta their way to help with the expensive problem this has become and is trying to cut any unneeded expenses to help us out. If the calipers have to be replaced our final bill will be well over $2,000.00!!!!!!!!!!! Not exactly what i think we should be pumping into a vehicle with ONLY 40,000 miles on it!! After doing some research i am starting to see a repeated problem some Edge owners are having with Master cylinders in their own rides. The main thing in all of this is that the problem was caught before my wife and kids were put into harms way but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth on our FIRST Ford vehice we have ever owned. We love the Edge except for this one thing, but brakes to me are a major thing!!! When the time comes to replace our Edge it's gonna be a hard decision. I hope Ford really starts looking into the master cylinder problem they may have. I realize that even new cars have problems but when several people are reporting the same problem there could be a connection. If anyone else has had brake problems please send me a message, i would love to hear your story!!

  6. Hello and wish you luck with your Edge inquiries! We own a 2008 Ford Edge Limited AWD, best vehicle we have ever owned!! Regarding ways to find out if an Edge has Sync!! If you have the VIN #s you can create a SYNC account on their website and enter the Vin to see if it has it. If there are pictures on the internet look at the steering wheel controls. There should be a button with a mouth on it that says MEDIA, if it has this button it has SYNC.(There is also a Microsoft SYNC badge by the shifter.) Regarding the prices for used, i know when we purchased our Edge earlier this year it was a dealer program with about 13000 miles on it. It stickered for almost 40,000 new and they were asking 28,900. I got out the door for 25,000 with no trade! I would shop around until you find the one you want and if the price is right buy it! Good luck and god bless!

  7. Which remote start are you talking about? The single fob remote start WILL NOT work with the auto climate control in a Ford Edge. I have personally talked with Ford on this one and all Edges with dual climate control require two outputs and the single keyfob kit ONLY has ONE output, thus it can only be used to start the vehicle! There is NO way to add another output to it. Are you sure you didnt just install the six button keyfob, that kit WILL work! Not trying to start an arguement but i have talked to numerous individuals within my dealership and spoke directly with a Engineer, tech,at Ford who explained the whole problem with the output. This is also a common issue with the taurus.

    thanks,jeremy

It will work with the dual auto control. I just installed one on my wifes 09 limited today.
  8. Hello,

The single keyfob Ford remote start will not work with the autoclimate control in Edges. The Edges require two outputs to both turn on the vehicle and turn on the autoclimate and the single fob remote start only has one output. You would need the six button keyfob if you want to be able to turn on the heater/ac, etc. The above information came directly from Ford Accessory technician. As far as the heated seats, i read on this forum that Ford purposely setup the heated seats so that you can not program them to work with the remote start, i do not know if this is true just going from what i read on here. hope this helps you.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

Has anyone installed this unit in their edge? If so any tips or tricks for the install I will be attempting this weekend? I have read a few places on these forums that the dual climate control would not come on with remote start, anyone know if this is true? Also any ideas on how to turn on heated seats with this unit?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I plan on posting pics and info on my install to aid others when I'm done

  9. Hello,

I have a Genuine Ford Remote Start Kit, Type A for sale(7L2Z-19G364-AA). I bought this to be installed on our EDGE Limited but found out that this kit will not work with the dual auto climate controls, only the turn dial controls. This kit works on Ford Edges without auto climate control and on the Ford Fusion, may work for other Ford/Lincoln vehicles but i am not sure. I am selling at dealer cost of $177.00 and i will include FREE SHIPPING in the US only. EVERYTHING that comes with this kit is included. Please let me know if your interested.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

  10. Quick update on the whole remote start thread. I have a cousin who is a ford tech and i went ahead and called him last night to see what he thought about this. He told me that even the basic remote start 101 Ford system should at least mimic the last climate control settings, he couldnt remember if the defrost would work too if it was on or not, but he said something was not hooked up correctly or was never hooked up to begin with!! Anyways, he went ahead and contact a Ford Specialist that deals directly with this kinda stuff and i am just waiting for him to get back to me. Will be seeing him tomm so i got my fingers crossed. The dealership still hasnt called back but i am positive that my problem will get resolved now that i involved my cousin. Should have had him install it to begin with!!!!!! Shame on me!! So for anyone thinking of getting just the basic FORD remote, your worries are over, it should allow you to use the auto climate control as long as they hook it up correctly!! I believe i said it before but the cheapest place i found the system was downs ford (thefordsource.com), they ship incredibly fast and they offer the remote starts at near cost!! Anyways, i will keep you posted as to what eventually has to be done but i thought i would try to keep everyone in the loop.

    Happy Thanksgiving,

    Jeremy

  11. Hello,

We have two boys(4 & 7) and they have no space concerns in the back seat. I am 6'2 and have the seat completely back and my 7yr old who is very tall for his age does not even come close to hitting the back seats. More than enough room. We have even had three car seats back there will no problems. We do have the rear seat entertainment package which i highly recommend!! Good luck and you will be not regret it if you buy a EDGE, best choice we ever made.

    Thanks

    Jeremy

  12. Thanks, i will be taking it back to the dealership so they can fix it. It kinda defeats the whole purpose of having it if you can run the heater, etc. I appreciate your help.

    Thanks

    Jeremy

I think they screwed something up. If I have my auto temp set to 70 degrees and shut off my car, then restart the car using the remote start my auto temp will run the climate control as needed. Keep in mind the heater will not blow until the engine reaches warm enough temp. The AC will kick in right away if it needs it.

I would go back and complain. I have had many vehicles with a remote start installed and most functions within the car will work except for heated mirrors and rear defroster because of the type of switch they are using.

More expensive units will even program the defroster to come on and even open your windows for you

    Good luck

  13. Thanks for the respones, but i am not sure i understand what you mean when you say whatever you had programmed previous. I bought the Ford basic auto start with the one button key fob and had it installed at a Ford Dealership. How do i program it to turn on whatever i had previously set. Right now the car will start with the remote but the fan motor will not kick on until we insert the key and turn it to the run position! I am very frustrated and the dealer is trying to find out if this is the way its suppose to be or if something is not right with it but until then i would like to find out for myself.

    Thanks

    Jeremy

I have a very basic auto start in my 07 SEL Plus with auto temp and the car starts with whatever you had programmed previous. It will not operate the rear defroster but the heat and AC work fine as if you turned the key
  14. Hello,

I am hoping someone out here can help me. I recently had the Ford Edge Remote Start 7L2Z-19G364-AA put on my wifes Edge Limited. At the time i didnt realize that this remote start would only start the car and not give us the ablility to have the heater/defroster/ac turned on. (We have the dual auto climate control) I guess i would have to get the Ford Edge Remote Start,Remote Keyless Entry & Vehicle Security 7L3Z-19G364-AA to be able to control our climate control from our house. My question is is the only difference between these two systems the Keyfob? Is it possible that i can just buy the 6 button keyfob from the remote start, keyless, etc. system and have it programmed to our current remote start. I would like to believe that the remote start module is the exact same for both systems and that the keyfobs are the only real difference but i dont know. Anyone who could help me would be appreciated greatly.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

  15. I have talked with my dealership and the technician who installed my remote start. He didnt realize that the remote start that i got wouldnt work to turn on the auto climate control either. He has contacted his FORD rep but has not gotten a response back yet. The only thing so far that he could find out was that the remote start, keyless entry, etc. does have six buttons on the keyfob and two buttons are programmable to whatever you want them to go to. He said that they could be setup to control the climate control and such. They charged around $150.00 to install. I actually bought the remote start myself from thefordsource.com (Downs Ford) since they were WAY cheaper than what my dealer could get it for. When i told my dealership what i could buy it for $177.00 they told me to go ahead and buy it from Downs Ford because that price was almost the dealers price. Then i had my local garage install it. It does kinda such to be able to start the car but not turn the heater on to have everything all warmed up. To think that a couple years ago remote start wasnt even an option!!!

I too have the auto climate control and have been looking into remote starts. That really defeats the purpose of having the remote start if you cannot turn on the heat/ a/c. I was just going by how the remote starter worked on a Grand AM GT I once owned.

Have you notified the dealer, and if so, what have they told you about these issues. BTW, how much did they charge to install the starter? Thanks.

  16. Thanks for the reply. We have tried that but since we have the auto climate control it will not kick the fan on until the key is placed into the ignition and turned into the run postion. Even if we leave it in the highest fan position and have the heat turned on it still wont turn the ac or heater on until we put the key in it. Its frustrating to have remote start to warm your car up in the winter but still have to run outside and put your key in the car!!!

    Thanks

    Jeremy

You have to have the heat or a/c on when you shut the car off......then, when you start the car via fob, they will turn on. The defroster will not come on unless you hit the button on the dash.

  18. I believe our 2008 Ford Edge Limited with 20's is very quiet. We test drove several vehicles before choosing our edge and the edge had the quietest ride available in a crossover/suv in our price range. We previously owned a 2007 ford edge SEL with the hankooks and there was some road noise from the terrible Hankook tires, replaced them with Coopers and the noise disappeared!! Like i said, we have owned two edges so far, the 07 unfortunately was totalled out when my wife and kids were rear ended by a girl going 45mph, good thing no one was hurt, but overall we LOVE our EDGE and will definately be buying another one when our Limited needs replaced in about ten years or so!!!!!!!!!Buy one you wont be disappointed!!

  19. Correct me if i am wrong but i believe they are reworking the front end and other areas of the edge for the 2010 model/2011. I have seen some photos like the rendering i have attached! Do a search on google, yahoo, etc. for 2011 ford edge and you should be able to find some photos.

Can anyone tell me if the Egde is scheduled for any kind of physical up-dating or change in 2011 ?

    Thanks, Jim

  20. Another ex GM guy here too. Owned GM for the past 16 years but that changed last year. Purchased a 2008 Edge Limited (our first FORD vehicle ever)last year and my wife and I absolutely love it. Ford has a new customer for life!! Hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours.

    Congrats,

I too am a recent Edge Limited owner... and first time ford owner.

Enjoy your ride!.... I'm enjoying mine!

  21. WOW Blazed Up, someones got issues!!! First of all, SORRY for posting what i found out when i went to the website you listed.I was not offered FREE SHIPPING, guess you must have gotten a special offer. YOU NEVER STATED THAT YOU GOT FREE SHIPPING IN YOUR ORIGINAL POST, I CAN'T READ YOUR MIND! Looks like you have a problem with someone not getting the deal you found and NO the economy hasnt affected me the way if must have you!! This site is very useful EXCEPT when people post stuff like you do!!! Congrats if you can get them for $5.50 with FREE SHIPPING, but you are probably the only one!! :hysterical::finger:

My shipping was free........cripes kie, I can add you know. 3 filters for the price of one......you stick with the $16 filter. It's nice to see the economy doesn't affect everyone.
  22. Filters are cheap but the shipping is where they get you!!!!!!!!!!! $15.00 plus to ship a $5.00 filter, what a crock, i will be sticking with my $16.00 motorcraft instead of being taken for a ride by a website making the price up in shipping!

www.dealparts.com have the 2007-2009 TYC cabin air filter for $5.50 a piece. These filters are becoming very difficult to find and the prices are going up. I have these filters and they work great......if not better than the $16.00 motorcraft air filter. :baby:
  23. Hello,

I have a 08 Edge Limited with the 20s on it. My wife recently hit a chunk of road debris and it bent the rim. I was told that a new 20 chrome clad rim from my dealership would only be 500.00!! I searched the internet and found a new 20 takeoff rim from a custom shop for only 195.00. If you look around you should be able to find the same deals!! Check ebay, Detroit Tire, etc. I too do not understand why they created the wheels the way they did but i will also respond that they DO look incredible awesome and i too have gotten SEVERAL comments about our Edge!! Good luck!!

I need some help. We just bought an awesome 2009 Edge w/AWD and the Chrome Alloy Wheels, 20-In. X 7.5-In option. They change the entire look of the Edge and we have had so many compliments on it. My wife was driving it the other day and coming out of a parking lot and the rear passenger tire dipped down into a street storm drain and damaged the chrome alloy plastic on the wheel. We are devasted. I have researched this and am horrified to find out that we would have to pay over 800 dollars for one wheel as the chrome alloy is bonded to the rim?? Heck the option to upgrade to these things was only 895 for all 4 wheels!!

Anyway, here is the question. Are we screwed and have to buy a new wheel or is there anyone out there fixing these things? I presume the wheels are here because of the pressure to reduce wt to meet the new CAFE regulations. Surely someone has figured out how to fix them rather than making the consumer buy one for 800 dollars every time one gets dinged on the road or at the tire rotation store down the road???

Who can shed some light on this? I have called Ford Customer Service and wanted to speak to the Edge engineers and inquire how someone could make a part so unfriendly for the consumer after market but got no where. Is there anyone out there that has any info on this?? Thanks in advance.

  24. Hello,

I too had a 07 that my wife was driving when a young girl rearended her. They also totaled it out. She had Progressive also and my insurance company went ahead and fixed it and is suing her insurnace company due to many shady practices by progressive. My insurance was not affected at all and nothing will ever go on my record i just had to let my insurance be the ones going after the other driver. There was unibody damage to our 07 edge also and they told me that 07s had to be replace with OEM parts!!! Progressive wanted the body shop to cut and weld new parts into old parts and vise versa, the autobody shop laughed at them and in the end they had to have FORD fax the information that states that you CANNOT cut an OEM part up to make it work. It must be used as is. Anyways, enough rambling. The most important thing it that no one was hurt. In our case we went from a 07 Edge SEL to a very beautiful 08 Edge Limited!!

    Good luck,

    J

Wow, did not expect that. If you are filing thru your insurance and they are suing their insurance, demand that they fix it-especially if you paid for gap insurance! That is what I did. I had 4k damage on a truck worth about 2k. I refused to be forced to take on a new car payment because they wanted to total it. So I was able to get another 7 months out of it. Not my fault, not my problem. His limits do not matter when it comes time to sue. My insurance is paying for my accident right now and I am getting what I want, that kid's insurance co will be bummed. To total an Edge and buy a used VW seems unfair. Used 2007's in good shape go for much more than that. I looked at used when I bought and they were going for 18-20k +.

What was broken so bad that it was totaled? Frame?
