  1. Has anyone updated the NAV/Gracenote system from 2009? I have a few questions:

    1. Does updating make any functions worse that were previously fine?

    2. Do the graphics look different (in a good or bad way)?

    3. Does your radio recognize artist and song titles after updating?

I'm debating spending the $200 asking price--the artist/album display is really the most important to me.

  2. Has anyone updated the NAV maps/Gracenote programs since buying the 2009 Edge? I don't know if I should spend the money, so I have a few questions:

    1. Does the update ruin anything that worked fine before?

    2. Do the map graphics look different (in a good or bad way)?

    3. Does your radio display all recent CD artists and song titles?

The Point of Interests are terrible in the original software, but I use Street Address searches, and I always get there no problem.

Streets in Connecticut don't change much, so I never had a problem with a road not being listed.

The main pet peeve I have is that my radio will not recognize the name of any new CD I buy, and I rely on voice activation to play music.

  3. I had similar problem with burned CDs, but after manually renaming the artists and albums the sync did recognise that. Be careful not to have similar names for the albums and artists, what I had to do is add "The" to the name, for example instead of just Beatles and Eagles I made one of them "The Beatles" and that seemed to work good.

    I hope this help.

Yea, I've tried everything, but no good. The problem CDs I had to type in were Lady Gaga, Metallica, and other burned titles, and none of them work, whether I say them by song, album, or artist. The only time voice recognition works is if the jukebox automatically reads the text info.

  4. Bought the 09 Edge Limited last year...I've been uploading both burned AND store-bought CD's into the hard drive lately, and the stereo cannot recognize the song/album/artist information for any of them. This has only been a problem recently.

It's a pain because I have to type in the titles manually, which makes Sync unable to activate them because it cannot recognize the manually inputted names.

    Any fixes for this problem?

Any thought on how to fix this problem?

  6. I have an 08 Edge with the tan interior. I had been wearing a black leather jacket for a couple of weeks and now the center console lid and the drivers side arm rest have black on them. I tried cleaning them but no luck (it removed some but it's still noticeable). Has anybody had this problem and any suggestions on how to clean it? I was thinking of having the center console lid redone in leather (easier to clean than this rubber stuff they use).

I hear you: I bought a black wool coat and noticed the same blueish-black stains as you have. I tried rubbing alcohol, windex, and Goof-off (which is the most powerful solution I can find)--the Goof-off was somewhat successful, but not totally. I don't rest my arms on the armrest or center console anymore when I wear that jacket.

I was really hoping for some advice instead of political debates--I went to a local car stereo store and I just made an appointment to have the stock speakers upgraded to a Rockford brand that he recommended. He is putting an extra tweeter in each door and the tweeters near the windshield will be angled toward the seats.

He said that the Edge design to put tweeters on the windshield frame is a poor placement because they point directly at each other and the soundwaves cancel out. According to this store owner, speakers in the dash are ideal because the soundwaves bounce off the windshield and back to the driver/passenger.

  8. Computer or hand calculated?

I'm not going to post the break-in period, your mileage WILL improve. :victory:

Hand-calculated. I expect better as the miles increase (1000 right now). My old car was a 1994, 4 cylinder Honda Accord and I got 20 mpg on the same weekly drive.

  9. I'm not satisfied with the sound quality of the Limited's speakers, but I don't know a thing about speakers. I like to hear high- and mid-range sounds in my music, but the stock speakers are heavy on the low-end. Can someone answer some questions without getting too technical?

    A. Will replacing just the front speakers make enough of a difference?

    B. Is it easy for an electronics store to replace the small speakers on the windshield side-bar?

    C. What speaker brand would be best for my taste?

    D. About how much can I expect to spend for a place like Jo-Dee's (or similar) to do the work for me?

  10. I just bought a 2009 Edge and this is my first exposure to satellite radio--I have to say the sound quality is absolutely HORRIBLE. I listen mostly to "Lithium" and "Octane" (don't remember the channel #'s), and it really sounds like 80 kbps. If you flip back and forth from FM to satellite, the contrast in clarity, tone, and crispness is unbelievable.

The only way I'll continue is if I get hooked on the content. I like Stern, but I have to say the reduced sound quality is making me want to endure FM commercials. One more thing absent from satellite is the local broadcasting--on Sirius, you can't hear about concert updates, events, or news because it's national.
