  1. I just got my 09 Edge Limited and I keep hearing a noise "pitch" coming from the sub at the back, this happens from the time i put the key in the ignition and turn it to accessory so the radio comes on and also when driving. The noise comes through with the Radio ON or OFF. Anyone else seen this? Ideas? Bad Amp? torn cables?

It could very well be a bad amp or just loose wires. When I got my first sub amp it was bad and sending it in for a replacement was the only thing that solved the high pitched squeal. My dad and the Ford dealer mechanic couldn't hear the sound since they're older and have lost that part of their hearing so they both kept telling me I was crazy! Old guys... sigh...

  2. That sub looks awesome!! A few questions though, did you cut the factory enclosure so the 10" would fit, or is that a custom enclosure? The seat bottoms lower when you fold the rear seats down, is there enough clearance with the amp below?? Thanks.

I made my own sealed sub enclosure. There wasn't enough area in the stock enclosure for a 10 to breathe.

The seat bottoms go down and forward when lowered. The bigger seat goes down all the way over the speaker amp but the shorter seat doesn't quite go down all the way (about an inch up) because my sub amp is a bit taller. I don't worry about it because I don't put heavy stuff on it but I probably wouldn't sit on it in the down position. :) I put it down with all my ski gear last week with no worries though. Hope that helps.

  3. Chazman - first off, thanks for your concern - I did consider the flying projectile part of my pillar conversion project. It's not full blown fiberglass, just the glass part with no fiber and only the bottom part around the speaker. The rest is just a light covering and then the whole thing is covered with the suede super-duper glued on. I really don't see it shattering because of the fabric but did consider that in the build.

Securinu - I don't know about the other Edge's you've worked on but mine is an SEL+. The 'pod' in all 4 doors is 6X8 shaped but has two distinct speakers inside. I can post up a pic if you'd like to see one. As far as the tweeters I love the Seas as well. I have them in my home audio towers. Here's a link to where I got them at Madisound.

EdgeNut - There was almost no room under my front seats due to all the mechanics and the heater components. I can lower the larger seat to flat but the passenger side doesn't quite make it. That being said it is fairly easy for me to disconnect it if I ever really needed it truly flat.

    Happy New Year! Cheers!

  4. Now that my project is finally done I thought I'd share. (You can see my other thread for my subwoofer upgrade). I have an SEL+ but wasn't happy with the sound. I was expecting the Edge Audiophille system to sound as good as the Audiophille from my previous Limited Exploder. Not so much...

I took out the door pods that hold a 4" speaker and tweeter. I put in my own Ascentant Audio 6 1/2" speakers.

I made a fiberglass mold of the fake grill section on the door.

I cut out the part where the speaker actually is and then covered the fiberglass with speaker grill cloth.

Then I decided to put the tweeters in the A-Pillars. I went with some Seas textile tweeters. I did lots of fit tests to get a good angle with some PVC pipe so the tweeters would be angled towards the seats. Then I fiberglassed the whole pillar.

I finished them off with some black suede. You can see the angle better in the second pic.

Here are my sub and speaker amps under the rear seats.

I am really happy with my new set-up. I listen to a lot of Classical, Jazz and Hip-hop and have been pleased with all. Happy New Year!

  5. Hey everybody, I thought you might not mind seeing some pix of my new lights.

I couldn't be happier and you will be too!

  6. I want new wheels really bad since I don't care for the chrome ones that came with my SEL+.

Have any of you had luck selling yours? Let me know where if you have any good ideas.

I tried listing them on Craigslist but got zero calls. I've sold some Cobra wheels on EBay before but it was a huge pain to ship them. I want to sell them with the tires on since I want to get bigger wheels.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Kinda sux that the material Ford uses for the third light is different than the others but if you can make it look just as good and have a nice long warranty then I'm ok with it.

Please supply any specific/special care instructions for it.

I know the tails will be washable and waxable just like the paint.

Thanks for the updates, and for your efforts :)

    All around ditto!

  8. Wow, I thought more people would jump on this immediately.

Maybe I'm just all "Christmas Eve-y" about these.

I reiterate: I will have a set of these with or without the "group buy" of the core set.

I'll give it through the weekend, then I'm commencing with a plan to own a set asap. :shades:

These will be just too sweet on my black Edge. Especially with the blackout/stealth effect I'm working on. :D

Hey there, I'm up for this mod but I'm confused by all the different prices beign thrown around.

Is it $50 now and then another $115 later or $150? Also are the three lights easy enough to get off?

    Cheers,

  9. Jill, Sub install looks great!!! Looking to do the same thing in mine. Did you ever find out what was causing the hum from your other post? Also, I'm assuming you made a custom box to fit in that location... Was it a tricky build? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I tried a million different things and it finally just stopped. I'm not sure I could pin-point what was the cause since I tried several things at a time. It might have been the line in converter which I upgraded or that I was splicing lines from the rear doors. Either way I'm just happy it works like I want it too now!

The custom box was fun to make. It took me a few days since I had to wait for the glue to dry. You can see the box with my buddy Bob in the last picture. It looks like a wierd trapezoid. The only thing extra is that once you remove the original brackets you can fill more space with your new box and brackets so it takes a while to get all the measurements right. We added a bit of space on the back - it's not flat but has a sort of bump out on it with an extra panel. The cables run out of the bottom.

Bamaredwingsfan - I was also disappointed with the supposed audiophile system. My '01 explorer had a lot better sound. Anyways, I was originally going to just replace the stock 8" sub with my own favorite brand's 8". My buddy the 'car audio guru' said part of the problem was the plastic housing of the stock'er. It needed something more rigid like wood to not sound so soft.

    Hope this helps...

  10. Alright, I'm putting in a new subwoofer. I've got the amp all wired up and ready to go. I'm planning on using a line output converter. I bought this one in case you're interested: Stinger SLOCII from Car Domain - $16 w/free shipping.

My question is if anyone knows which wires are which in the stock subwoofer amp. harness? Securinu, do you know? If no one knows I can just use the wires in the rear door panels. I can run them but it'd be much easier to use the existing wires already in the back to hook up my converter. I haven't been successful in my search for wiring schematics online.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

  11. You've got some time to wait. I just got an email Friday from Sirius.

Title: Now's the time to renew your SIRIUS service. It is a reminder that the subscription will end in a few weeks if you don't call them. Mine should end in exactly one week as I bought my Edge in mid-February. I liked it so much I bought the service for my parents' cars also so I already have an online account set up. If you haven't checked out the free online-streaming service it's nice.

    Cheers
