What is the bearing where the CV axle goes into the transmission?

I looked for info on the bearing and if it is replaceable after removing the CV axle or if the transmission needs torn down to replace it. I didn't see anything in a repair manual for the bearing or the part on Ford Parts sites. Can the bearing be replaced or is it a transmission rebuild?
