  1.

Ye, our 09 Edge was built June 08, so it might have had the old seals installed. I only noticed the smell maybe 5 times this winter so far and only being at stop light. Also it only happens after driving on the highway for wile in higher speed. I do not see any leaks on the driveway. Hopefully they have the fix for it now... Time will tell

From what I have read the source of the leak drips right onto the exhaust and that does sound to me like a seal failure just because of your description of when you smelled it. IE at a stop light where the drips would have a chance to land on the hot surface and at speed where the rotating shaft would be more prone to leaking

  2. Let me ask you this, if you take an 08 in with 30k miles on it and they change the seals. What's the warenty after that? Still the ariginal 60k miles or somthing diferent?

    Just wondering

From my experience they should count it as a repair which should come with a warrenty all it's own, but it would just cover the repair not for example the rest of the drive train

  3. Trust me, SoCal sounds good this time of year! From late December to late March there is a constant crust of salt and nasty crap on the roads here in Cincinnati. Plus it's just plain cold, cloudy, and dreary....yuk!

Yea I grew up in Colorado, they use a chemical called Magnesium Chloride to keep the roads from icing and the spray off tires creates this black slimy film over the entire car. Other than that they use gravel instead of salt /shrug who knows rock chips or salt

I just told the dealer that I smell burning on occasion on my 09 LTD AWD, and they sad to make a appointment next week to check it out. Also they sad the PTU seals are different in 09 from 08. I think I will wait few weeks and see what the new engineered seals are like. But I was surprised that the seals from 08 to 09 are different.

I am not sure but I think the 09 seals are the reengineered ones. Now thats not saying that your Edge didn't get the last 07-08 seal in the hopper as it came down the line either. I would say take that sucker in if your smelling the burn and at least let them take a look at it.

Thats what warenties are for LOL

  5. Stick with the touchless the only thing worse than an idiot with a scrub brush is an idiot with a scrub brush + road grime.

As for the recycled water most modern places filter their recycled water before using it again, after all the debris would plug the sprayers if they didn't filter.

One thing I have done is uilized a quick detailer right after I get home from the wash. this will take care of any road residue that the touchless may have left.

Hope this helps, ohh yea there is one other thing. you could move to southern Cali where the median temp is 72 degreesF lol.

    Take care and good luck

  6. OK the ordered them in and when I got into town to pick them up guess what they are brown dark chocolate brown. :censored:

So talking to the idiots at Drew I am told oh well guess they don't make them for my car till a parts guy named Scott stepped in and asked what was the problem.

Turns out my trim code isn't even in the system so he is contacting ford and will get back to me on Tuesday but most likely will not get an answer till after the 1st.

I all most was ready to lose faith in my deal but at least I have found a parts guy to trust now.

Guess it's time to find a service writer that doesn't shrug his shoulders and go ohh well guess yours didn't come with one.

    Lazy service people suck.

  7. Brother is a Sr master Tech for ford and like Sparky said ford has fixed the PTU problem if I remember what my brother said the original seal designe would leak and so they have a redesigned one.

As for comparisons I will take the Edge over any of the others hands down. Another thing to consider is ask yourself if you really need AWD you may live in a cold climate with masive snowfall but if you don't get a lot of snow the FWD would prob work well with good tires and it will save you money.

  8. Hey all we have an 08 FWD limited that we love esp wife.

However I have one complaint those darn fog lamp bezels are chrome which is fine, but they have so many nooks and crannies that they are a horrendous pain in the butt to make look good espicialy with them being chrome.

Was wondering if any one has found this to be a problem and has maybe thought or come accross a solution. I was thinking a smooth faceted bezel without all the ridges molded into them.

What do you guys think is this a valid cause or should i just suck it up and buy more Qtips.

    Dan

  9. Damn and all this time i thought that ford just went cheap on our 08 limited. Guess I will be going to Drew on the 18th when i get back in town for christmas break.

Lex can you get me part numbers so I can back up my story in case the service writer who told me they didn't come with them trys to give me any grief?

    Camel interior if you could.

I knew there was something I didn't like about that guy but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Guess I will be "interviewing" service writers in the near future to find one I like.

  10. LOL yea she is getting a Thomas Kinkade print that she think is way beyond our price range but through a bit of blood shot eye web digging I found an art outlet that has the Limited edition oil on canvas prints for a very reasonable price. So she will get floormats which should elicit a :censored: but when she gets her print :happy feet:  :hyper: then we will go down to Michaels and order up the frame.
