  1. Thanks all. Ive talked to quite a few service managers and mechanics I trust and am totally comfortable with the vehicle now. Still looking in the used market to try to get the most for my price range. Currently looking at lightly used 09s. I want something I can drive into the ground without many frills, so basically keeping an eye on 09 AWD SELs. Just gotta find the right one at the right price. ;)

  2. Ive been driving and viewing used 08 Edge SELs in my local area (midwest) and have been spending plenty of time on the net trying to do my proper research. I love the way they look, the way they drive, etc.

The one thing I keep coming back to is the PTU & transmission issues. Ive found a used 08 AWD SEL within warranty at a great price that fits what Im looking for, however keep going back and forth fighting nerves on purchasing it due to the reported issues.

Now I understand that you have to take the net with a grain, etc. But do any of you have suggestions as far as purchasing a used 08? Should I be overly concerned about the PTU stuff? Should I be waiting for an 09 model? Id love to purchase new, but it would be a few months before I would be in that position. A used one right now would put my monthly payments at a place I would love them to be.

Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated. The intention was to look at this specific vehicle today.

  3. Im going to look at an Edge tomorrow that if everything pans out Im intending to purchase. It has the roof rails on it which I would prefer to remove. I plan on asking the dealer, but was curious if anyone had it done and if its a big deal. Ive read around the forum and there is mention of having to possibly get weatherstripping or caps of some sort...but nobody seems to have elaborated on actually going through with the removal.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

  4. I think the biggest change was the Camel dash went from tan in 07 to black in 08 (to avoid the glare). What specifically were you worried about?

Not so much worried as I am just trying to organize what the differences were. Ive been looking at the '07 order sheet sticky and while it talks about available interior colors, it of course doesnt describe the different color combos that fit that interior. I think my salesman believes he can find an SE 07 with tan interior and black dash...I didnt think that was an option.

Doing my best to be an educated buyer!

  5. I would see what you can find in a NEW 2008 or even 2009. When I shopped in February for mine I found that used ones were not cheap, and new 2008's were plentiful. I got a great rebate and a bunch off of the sticker. I paid less than some used ones sales people tried to stick me with. And the interest rate on the loan will be less on a new one.

What part of the country are you in?

Hmm...from what Im finding I seem much better off financially in the used market. I certainly could be missing something though. My bank has me at 4.29% on the used loan.

  7. Does anyone have a link to pages that show the different interior packages for the Edge? Im trying to find a used Edge and my local dealer (who of course would like to sell me one) I think is confused about the options on the 07. Im convinced that the options Im looking for are only in the 08 and later models.

Or...if anyone could tell me what changed, if anything, in regards to the interior between the 07s and 08s. I know there were glare issues and such and some changes were made.

    Many thanks!

  8. Patience Danielson.

Quite true. Im actually back on the prowl for another Edge. I did not end up keeping the one I was looking at as it wasnt the right "fit". Currently back looking at used 08 models. ;) Im definately sold on the Edge...what a fantastic looking and driving vehicle.

  9. Hi Taylor. :D While the Edge system is good (for an OEM system), anyone who is discriminating in their listening habits will always be able to hear a noticeable improvement with good quality replacement speakers.

It simply comes down to personal preference. If you are willing to spend the money and the time to replace them yourself, or spend the money to have someone else replace them for you, then you will probably like what you hear.

If your are reasonably handy with tools, it is a simple modification. Excellent aftermarket speakers and wiring harnesses (so there is no cutting/splicing of wires necessary) are readily available. And if you do a site search, there are many previous threads with aftermarket speaker recommendations and even "How-to's" concerning the subject of speaker replacement.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

Cool ;) Like I said, I had read the few other threads but they seemed to be more about specific speaker suggestions etc. rather than talking about the simple, noticeable difference. I dont consider myself crazy handy or anything...but Ill have to do some reading. Ive been looking at the instruction stuff on Crutchfield this afternoon.

  10. Opted out of the mud flaps. Once they dealer got them in, we opened them up and realized they were plane Ford flaps...no contour of any kind...a flat black mat basically. The tech guy was more dissapointed then I was lol, he said something before I did.

  11. I know this has been discussed some, but I couldnt seem to find any opinions from people who just swapped out the 4 speakers in the SE model. I can live with the stock ones, but they really lack significant clarity, etc. I dont really want to change the stereo...so Im curious if anyone has swapped just the speakers and found it to be a worthwhile investment with a noticeable change.

    Many thanks!

  12. Im going to bump this old dog up. Im thinking of having the dealership install the flaps for me tomorrow (live in MN) but I figured I would check around here and see what those of you who had them found in regards to functionality in winter. Have they helped? Worth the investment? (albeit small)

    Thanks!

  13. Ive got an 07 in carbon with the tan and gray interior (tan carpets) and simply cannot decide if I would be better off with tan all weather mats or black. Anyone have any thoughts or pictures that might help?

I would imaging black would disguise stuff better and match some of the interior stuff, however tan would match the carpet.

Any thoughts or suggestions (or pics!)

  14. also check JC Whitney. They are always sending me e-mails for 20% off your total bill. Autoanything is usually cheaper unless JC sends a discount. For example, I got my Magnaflow cat back for $540 counting the 20% off. Nobody could even come close to matching.

Talked to JC and they dont sell the fit Weathertechs for the Edge. Whats with the large delays in shipping from everyone on floor mats? Even Autoanything is telling me that the mats possibly wont ship till the 17th. Kind of a downer for an impatient guy like me!

  15. Just today picked up a lightly used 2007 Edge SE in Carbon Metallic. Just the simple model with nothing flashy...something hopefully that lasts me quite awhile.

    My first Ford!

We really enjoy the ride and styling of the car, and of course a new purchase is always exciting. Opted for an extended warranty just for good measure. Ive always been a foreign car guy...however we really enjoy the vehicle and the specs fit the budget and style-options we wanted in a car. The wife and I both enjoy vehicles, so you gotta have something that you find fun! As with everything out there, the net is filled with good and bad opinions, so trying to take everything with a grain.

Anyway...on to pick up some all season mats and maybe an additional accessory or two. Any great sites out there for accessories?

    Thanks!
