  1. Has anyone had any experience with the Lemon Laws and the 2010 Edge? I have a 4 month old Edge Ltd with 3000 miles. It has been in the shop 6 times. I spent 3 mornings at the service dept, and lost it another 3 times with a total of 26 days out of service where they provided a loaner vehicle. The main problem is the rattling noise from the sunroof. They have tried to fix it 5 times. They know it is an issue, but Ford stopped replacing sunroofs a while back, and now try to find fixes. They have tried lubing parts, and found unpadded dowels, but it is still rattling away. Now, they say that they will not replace the roof, or work on it anymore. They said to come pick it up, or I will be charged for the loaner. Basically, deal with it. Also, it has been in on these visits for a Tire Pressure Sensor fault ( happened 3 hours after I picked it up), Iphone incompatibilty ( their website said it was compatible), the transmission was slipping and slamming me from behind, all 4 brake rotors had to be recut at 2600 miles (pads were fine and they said it happens), the door latch had to be adjusted, the USB port failed and needed repair, the memory seats are losing their memory and the GPS/Sync is having problems (location errors, weather update not connecting and an icon saying NoGPS on the screen, even though it is tracking). As they will no longer work on the roof, which they have confirmed and documented has a problem, are they not in violation of the warranty? They could replace the sunroof and fix the problem, but just don't want to spend the money. So, go away. The service tech who notified me said that Ford states the problems are "characteristic" of the vehicle. What does that mean? I notified a lemon law attorney and also just sent off the required paperwork for NY State Attny Gen New Car Lemon Law Arbitration, as they have left me no choice. I don't trust this vehicle. If all these systems are failing, how can i assume it won't brake down at a dangerous time or possibly cause an accident. Again, anyone else have all these problems, and how did you deal with it? Thank you

Here's the NY Lemon Law :

The New York Lemon Law applies to new cars, both purchased and leased, which suffer a nonconformity; a defect or condition, which substantially impairs the use, value or safety; that has been addressed a substantial number of times (normally 3-4) by an authorized manufacturer's dealership. This nonconformity must first occur within the first 24 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. The New York Lemon Law also applies to vehicles that are in the shop for repair thirty (30) or more calendar days during the first year.

You obviously have a case. I have had two cars lemon lawed, a Dodge Durango and a Mazda CX-7. The Dodge was a quick process, two months from start of process to having a check in my hand. Mazda quickly agreed to buy my car back, but took nine months to finally pay up. Hopefully Ford will be a quick turnaround for you. Good luck.

  2. Took mine back to the dealer Monday so they could fix the gas tank ( ) and asked to take the mechanic out with me so I could show him the problem. I did and we all agreed it aint coming from the gas tank. He threw out several things it could be from anti-sway bar to motor mount to CV joint. After 2 days theyve still got it and I havent heard anything. So Im driving around in this tiny, crappy little Toyota Corolla they use for a loaner which sucks. Im a 6', 250 lbs weightlifter so you can imagine how much fun Im having squeezing in and out of this thing with a baby and car seat. :nonono:

Im hoping they get it wrapped up tomorrow. Ill let ya know.

Had mine in the dealership for this. They got on a "hot line" directly with Ford and diagnosed as a faulty sensor in the transmission. They opened up the trans., put in new sensor, new trans. fluid and it's good as new. MPG are way up after the new part also. I don't have the repair order with me so I can't give you the part #, but if you need it I can look it up when I get home tonight. Good luck!

  3. My Edge suffers from the same problem. In my case it's a matter of poorly fitting front doors. In fact, while sitting in the driver's seat I can look into the mirrors on the doors and see that the black trim 'strip' at the bottom of the windows don't line up: they rear portion of both front doors protrude slightly. Normally the striker plate can be adjusted in order to 'pull' the doors back into alignment. I've tried it myself as has Ford with no luck. At this point I just live with it.

As a side note: my wife has a Mazda CX-7. The build quality of the Mazda is much better than that of the Edge. For example, the doors on Mazda actually 'fit' the car. Additionally, the Mazda was fully coated with paint whereas the Edge has a couple of spots on the door jambs where there is a total absence of finish coat and the primer is very evident.

I like the Edge but fit and finish is a problem.

Well - My wife HAD a Mazda CX-7 which Mazda bought back from us(with attorney influence), because it was a certified POS. Anything and everything that could go wrong in that car did. Just pointing out that every manufacturer can have it's problems. Her Edge fit and finish is fine.

  4. With a big fat stinky price tag. When I bought my Edge I had owned GM my whole life and was disgusted with their lack of new design, I could not get my mind off of the Edge. So I made the switch.

Last week we got snow and icy rain here and my Edge did well. I came up on a Cadillac. Not sure if the guy was being cautious or what, but it did not seem to be great in the snow. Maybe it was not equipped with AWD. Car was already too expensive maybe. :)

I've owned two GM's, one was a bigger POS than the other. BTW, had the Edge out Sunday morning and hit some black ice on a curve, car straightened itself out beautifully. BMW coming the opposite direction was at an absolute crawl just trying to get through the curve.

  5. I looked at the CX-9 when I was shopping because of the third row. Scary. It is up against the back window and tiny. In a crash I cannot imagine what would happen, especially if rear ended.

Speaking of competition for the MKX, anyone notice how much the new Cadillac SRX looks like an Edge? The profile is so close at first glance.

Saw a new SRX in a parking lot and that was the first thing I said - very close to the Edge.

  6. When im listening to Sat radio there is supposed tobme a menu feature that lets me add songs to my favourites and notify me when they come on. I cant access the Sat radio menu. When i push menu button while in sat mode, it come up with Sat Menu, but when i hit ok, it wont access the menu features, just sits there and does nothing. Anyone else have this problem?

After you hit OK, you have to press the up/down arrows that are next to the CD slot until you see "SAVE SONG" in the menu screen. Now press OK again and the song that is currently being played will be put into memory. When that song is played again on any satellite station you will get an audible beep and "SONG ALERT" will be in the menu screen. Press OK and it will take you to the station playing that song. You can save up to twenty songs. Page 33 in Owners Manual.

  7. 1- Got the flat at night, in a driving rain storm on a 5 lane highway.

2- Ford auto service would not change the tire there. Too dangerous, had to tow.

3- Flat tire had a ½” hole in it. Could not patch tire.

4- Told Dealer to put spare on and that is when he said “only if the tire is the same dia”

5- Three hours later when he got around to looking at my tire did he come back and say I need all 4 tires.

6- He sold me the tires for $100 ea including balancing. Michelin P245/60R-18

In retrospect I would have told him to go ahead and put the spare tire on. Go home and do some research before replacing all four tires.

But after a 5 hour ordeal, all I wanted to do was go home!!

    Thanks for the responses.

    Live and Learn :reading:

I don't know what type of Michelins he put on, but at $100 each you shouldn't feel so bad, you got a great deal. Cheapest Michelin on Tire Rack in that size is $168 and that doesn't include mounting and balancing. Congrats!

  8. Well I had my first flat tire in 20 years last night. What a nightmare!! Had to have it towed because a ½ inch dia bolt 4 inches long was sticking out of the middle of the tire pattern!! After 4 hours at the Ford dealer I was told that all 4 tires had to be replaced because the other 3 tire diameters were 3/32 smaller. I have 20,000 miles on the tires.

Did I just get scammed??? :banghead: The guy said if all tires are not the exact size it could damage the AWD components. I had my wife get on the internet while I was at the dealer and she did find some discussions on having to buy all new tires for AWD vehicles.

Has anyone else gone through this?

You didn't want to use your spare tire?

  9. New 2010 Edge with less than 1000 km on it started to have a heavy 'clunk' noise when accelerating. Ran smoothly after initial acceleration. Returned it to the dealer where they spent over 5000 labour dollars on it with no result. Noise remained. They replaced the differential twice, checked all the sensors and still no result. It has been at the dealer now for two weeks. After sitting on the lot last weekend, the mechanic drove the car and the 'clunk' was gone. He reported that this was not an indication that it was fixed, just that the issue could be intermittent.

Has anyone else had this problem and what was the solution?

At this point, we are demanding a replacement Edge.

See my post here. Have not brought it into dealer yet.

  10. '09 Edge, less than 1,000 miles, second time it has done this - stopped at a red light facing uphill, fairly steep. Light changes, step on gas, loud clunk from trans, trans won't engage. Rev the gas like crazy, then trans engages and off we go. Other than these two incidents car rides like a dream, any clues? Obviously bringing it into dealer but would like some input. Thanks.

  11. Jeff, based on your comments in the sport peddle thread, I don't think you have the kill switch. Look at the pics posted in the original thread again. The port pictured in the peddle thread is also shown to the right in the pics in this thread. That is the OBD 2 port. The kill switch is the second connector to the left in the pics in this thread.

BTW, I have hooked up a code reader to the OBD 2 port, so I know it is not a kill switch.

No, I know I have the kill switch. I have two connecters, the OBD 2 port to the right which is tucked up in the dash, and the kill switch to the left which is screwed to the bottom of the dash.

  12. I missed the part where you said you were in Canada. This is obviously a Canadian thing. They are not on U.S. vehicles nor are they in the U.S. owner's manual.

OMG, No, no, no,no. When did I say I was from Canada? This is not a Canadian thing! I am in NJ. Please read all posts before jumping to conclusions. All I said was kill switches are common in Canada.

  13. That's still the OBD-II port. If there was a kill switch then it would be mentioned in the manual and it's not. Go back and look at the pictures again - the kill switch is to the left and mounted vertically, not horizontally like the obd-II port.

I have the kill switch in my 2009 edge, so believe me, I know what it looks like. I think what we are all trying to find out here is why so many Edge's have them installed, and yes, why there is no mention of them in the Owner's Manual. Like I said in an earlier post, they are very common in Canada, where the Edge is assembled. Do a search for used Edges from Canadian Ford dealerships and you will see "Kill Switch" listed as an option more often than not.

  14. First post, 4th picture plug on the right is what I found. Is the one on the left what we are talking about?

I will look again and see if it coiled up underneath or something.

igciting - yes, the plug on the left is the one we are talking about. I doubt you will see it coiled up, they mount these so you can easily insert or take out the key.
