  1. My edge has a hodge podge of tires.. I bought it used and it had cooper discovery hts on it. Replaced 2 of those immediately due to wear with maxxis bravo h/ts .. I like these better than the coopers as they are super quiet. Then I had my tires rotated at the dealer and of course an unfixable nail puncture was found. All they had was hankook so I now have 2 of those on the back and the maxxis on the front. The hankooks don't seem as bad as everyone says. I think some of it is just the fact of new vs older tires.

  2. can you put a front hitch?

no joke. you could 'maybe' do front hitch and hitch rack. just not sure if it is even possible on the Edge - doubt it, but maybe. Seen people do this on bigger trucks, vans, campers.

I wouldn't want to drive with a front hitch on an edge, I guess you could do it though. If you're putting on hitches why not just put a hitch on the back of the camper and a bike rack there.

  3. I am looking to find a bike carrier for my '07 Edge. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that mounts on the back like a trunk style carrier for a car. I do not want to use the hitch as I am pulling a camper that maxes out my tongue weight. Also, I was thinking about building something that would attach to the roof rack to haul 3 bikes. My roof rack did not come with the crossmembers. I thought I could use wood to go across the top of the roof rack and attach it to the rack with U-bolts. It would not look pretty, but iI think it would work. Any suggestions?

if you have the roof rails on your edge you can get the crossbars from ford for 100... you can also get some cheap roof racks that will not hinder the hatch opening.. I use these http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Locking-Upright-Roof-Rack-Pack-of-2/667469/product.html?cid=123620&fp=F&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=946589-000-001

I'd only recommend 2 bikes o the roof though.

here is the thread I started when looking for racks http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/4267-bike-rack-for-factory-crossbars/

  4. Nothings been added, and like I said earlier, the wiring that tapped into the tail lights was totally disconnected in case that was the cause and apparently its not because I keep blowing fuses....

    (Dumbfounded...):banghead:

I'd remove both bulbs then try another fuse.. if this doesn't work take a multimeter and look for one of the wires that may be shorted to ground somewhere.

  5. Mine is getting worse so Im gonna break down and take it to the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully I wont experience any of the horror stories Ive read about with them taking 3 weeks and changing the entire front end out.

Im betting its a motor mount. Here's hoping they get it figured out and fixed in one day. I need to get started on my new install for the 2010 car audio competition season but have been kinda waiting to figure this out.

Make sure to post some pics of your audio stuff once you get it in.

  6. just an update, I've had the rack on for a couple of tanks of gas an no noticeable drop in mileage. i usually get 20 to 22 and I got 20.5 on my last tank. I think the vehicle is inefficient anyway and there isn't enough wind resistance to make a difference. now if it would warm up I could report on driving with a bike on top, but I have not done that yet. I now carry a milk crate to stand on to put a bike up there though,

  7. Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. Unfortunately even the aftermarket crossbars are not much help - since as you rightfully noted - the factory installed roof rails are too far back... any further thoughts would be much appreciated!

you have to add a crossbar further up with aftermarket towers that clip inside the door. then use the rails for the other crossbar.

  8. just had the seat pan thing put on my edge.. still creaking... Haven't decided if I'm going to complain about it again or not as it's a hassle taking it in for service. I guess they thought they fixed it as when I got in the seat was adjusted straight up. and in that position it may not do it as bad.

I'm going to check it myself, it sounds like a creaky chair I'm sure it's the spring things, but I'm not sure if what they replaced included those.

  9. HELP!!!!! We recently picked up our new 2010 Edge Limited AWD (a few months ago now) - which we had specially ordered since we forwent the Vista Roof for factory installed roof rails and cross bars. We needed the extra storage capacity of a cargo box (which we explained to the dealer). I just attempted to install our Thule Atlantis 1200 box on the roof - which is too long (it interferes with the tailgate fully opening). SO - I went to pick up a new - somewhat shorter box (that would still accommodate our ski equipment) ONLY to discover that there is now box that fits on the Ford rails and cross bars which doesn't interfere with the tailgate opening. I have now been in touch with our dealer... Ford Canada AND Thule - and there doesn't seem to be a solution?!?!???? Given that these are factory installed rails - we can't remove them to try a complete after market solution (i.e. Thule, Yakima or Inno bars)... and since the roof rails are installed so far back on the roof line - even Thule cross bars won't work. HELP?!?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <so much for ordering factory installed roof systems from Ford)

researching roof racks lately I have found that you can add a clip on tower and crossbar in the front door area and use an after market crossbar on the factory rails for the back. kind of a hacked solution, but if you must have a cargo box that'd be an ideal.

I was looking for bike racks for the factory rails and bars and the ones that are a fork mount would probably interfere with the hatch. I bought one where you leave both wheels on and it appears to fit, just got it in today.

I'd call the factory rack system on the edge poor as it is too far back and the crossbars are too close together and not movable.

  10. Here . . . look at my Thule Sidearm . . .

looks nice that's about what I am going for, the factory crossbars that I have are further back than that though and that has me concerned. probably a foot and a half further back. I was concerned about having to chop the tray, but I found those cheapo racks that the tray is 2 pieces so I can shorten that without cutting.

do you leave the rack on all the time or do you take it off? any significant noise or mpg problems.

with the factory crossbars I have noticed no extra noise at all.. it's a shame it didn't come with them. It's worth it just to stiffen the rails when I have to climb up and wash the roof even if my bike rack doesn't work out.

  11. Yes these are for the roof.. I don't have a carbon bike yet, but I know the dangers of overclamping the downtube.. for the price I couldn't pass it up, I'd like a fork mount for the roof, but I fear the hatch would contact it. This one seems like it would move the bike and tray forward by leaving the wheel on. my bikes are currently cheap I have a worn out trek fuel and an cheap road bike.

  12. Took the edge in for an oil change and reported the seat issue... I didn't speak with a tech, but the service guy said they are ordering a "seat pan" will give an update after they do this..

I was pleased that they did anything with it at all with out arguing. That's really the only issue I have with the car except the spoiler gasket, which I think I'm just going to leave as I think it may do more damage removing it than it's worth.

  13. did you got your box from this seller greenleafprime on Ebay?

no, I seen some on there for 100 bucks and found another one listed for 35 and 15 shipping.. noone else bid so I got it for that. I forgot the sellers ID it started with C and they had a bunch of used car parts.

it also came with an amp and speaker, but I discarded those.

    is the one i purchased

  14. Yeah, the wizzer cones do suck. Having speakers amped you must have speakers that can handle the juice. The more power you have driving the speaker, the louder you can crank it without getting any distortion. I would like to change the sub out but I would also like to amp it at the same time.

the sub was a pain to swap, probably because of my choice of sub.. check the magnet structure the narrower the better. I'd try the polk sub at crutchfield if i had it to do over I'm thinking it may just drop in with some new mounting holes, but not sure. I had to raise my sub out of the box 3/4 inch to get ti not to contact a bump on the box which contacted the side of the magnet. I amped my 8 inch jbl sub with a 400 watt kenwood, but then swapped that amp for a 75x4 infinity where the rear is bridged to the sub and the fronts are stereo.. sounds about the same on the sub. It works surprisingly good though, but plays too deep for my tastes as I stuffed too much poly in it and am too lazy to take some out.

I'm never 100% happy with my audio equipment, I think it's an addiction. If I didn't throw a bike in the back on a regular basis I'd throw in a couple of 10 inch subs in a regular box and let it eat. At this point in my life though I just want something that sounds good playing pearl jam and not bass that shakes my mirrors off, and that's pretty much what my setup does.
