  1. I decided on the FWD SEL Plus for several reasons.

    1- Our winters are not too bad here in the Northwest, and I have always been able to get around in our FWD cars in bad weather, which is never too bad.

    2- I have a 4 X 4 truck for pulling the boat

    3- Less weight with a FWD and better M.P.G.

    4- I was not happy with my last AWD. I had 1 tire go bad with 3/4 tread left on all tires, but because it was AWD, I had to replace all 4.

    5- As the car got older I had a ton of repair costs, all related to the AWD. Front differential, transfer case and so on.

    6- Torque steer is not a problem on the Edge or the Fusion that my wife drives. Nothing like earlier FWD vehicles.

     

    So far we love the Edge and are happy with our decision. 7,500 miles to date.

  2. Wow...so what you are saying is that this guy was trying to get around you because he wanted to drive faster then you. He waited for a passing lane to make a nice legal pass. THEN you decided to be a complete jackhole and block him. Well done. Wanker.

     

    These vehicles are not in the same class. Strap a 6000lbs boat to the back of each and see what blows up, the Truck or the Car. They are made to totally different levels of luxery also. Sure one costs more, it should.

     

    Do you always go through life making assumptions? And then assuming that your assumptions are correct begin name calling? "Jackhole", "Wanker", nice.. You sound like a REALLY nice guy.

    I NEVER said the Escalade was trying to get around me at the time. (wrong assumption#1) He had been tailgating me and others for some time.

    For the record, I had let the Escalade pass. Then he decided to play games and he slowed, and then speed up, and so on, at the bottom of a hill he slowed again. In a passing lane, I pulled out, just like I wrote the first time and HE hit the gas trying to keep me from making the pass. (wrong assumption #2, he was trying to block me) I was tired of his games and made the pass anyway, without too much trouble. THAT was the point, and not all the details leading up to it.

    Nobody here has represented the Edge as a truck capable of pulling 6000 pounds, or even a hot rod for that matter, but some seem to think the Escalade has superior performance, in my experience, it does not. You are correct about one thing, it is in another class as far as luxury, (at least one of us can spell the word) worth twice what an Edge costs, that is open for debate.

    Blue smoke towing power. Mine had power...when and if it would start. Done with 'em. Weight doesn't matter with enough room under the hood and places to hide a big bottle or two. Beware! Trucks may look stock...but rarely are. Ive lost to more trucks than cars at the strip and paid $ to learn it. :yup:

    740 HP...10.41 1/4 mile! OUCH! Pony didn't expect that I bet. As you saw, diesel ft-lbs are king off the line. Have to catch up to them. Never do less than 1/4m against the D's! Black smoke is a warning Don't mess.

    How does it go, Figures lie and liars figure. Real life experience shows the Escalade to not be all that fast. Certainly not what is being claimed by the posted drag slip. Refer to Edmonds test of a 2007 Escalade for a trusted source and accurate results.

    Highlights, (or low lights depending on perspective)

    1- Price as tested, $66,000. more than double and Edge.

    2- Recommended fuel, premium

    3- Observed MPG 12.5 MPG. Ouch, (and on premium no less.)

    4- 0-60 7.5 Seconds

    5 1/4 mile 15.8 at 87.9 MPH

     

    Lets sum it up, you can buy a fully loaded Edge for less than half the Escalade, You burn regular gas in the Edge as opposed to premium in the Escalade and get close to twice the MPG in the Edge Vs. the Escalade, AND the actual performance is nearly identical. Based on personal experience I give the nod to the Edge in the performance department. In reality it is a comparison of apples and oranges, do you want an overpriced gas hog (12.5 MPG) SUV for status, or the latest in crossover technology. Our need for our family calls for something along the lines of the Edge. On our family vacation we drove the Edge 2700 miles and averaged 28 MPG for the trip. Not too bad and 7 MPG better than the Explorer we replaced.

    But this is America and we are free to make the choice we want. If an Escalade fits someones needs better than another type vehicle, great, at least it is an american car.

  4. While driving over a mountain pass and being annoyed by an overly aggressive, tailgating Escalade driver, I remembered this post.

    We came upon a nice uphill climb that had a passing lane. When I pulled in the other lane he rammed the gas and I did the same. The outcome, The Edge ate his lunch. Maybe it was the hill and his weight became an issue, but I do not consider the Edge on the lite side . Either way, I won't make excuses for him. Funny how his hot shot driving went away after that.

    I am not saying the Edge is some sort of speedster, but it CAN handle an STOCK Escalade.

    Mine is a FWD SEL Plus and it got 27 MPG on this 450 mile round trip. Nice performance and nice MPG, and a great work vehicle for business trips.

  5. heh, it was in a straight line and there were no vehicles in the area to hit other than each other. Two lane straight away without any crossroads. I'm here to discuss performance/customization issues, not to get lectured on vehicle saftety, otherwords i'd go to Soccermom's website. I'm too old for that.

     

     

    And the other guy paid how much for the Escalade? Gotta love the performance that the Edge delivers for the dollar. Similar story to the hot shot in the BMW M-5 that thought he would pick on my little pony. What he did not know was that tucked under the hood of my stock 06 GT Mustang is a Roush Blower. Enough said on that one. Ü And he paid what for that Beamer?

    My Edge is my daily driver and I just love it. Rock solid and very good on gas. And yes, surprisingly quick. It goes without saying that responsibility must come with performance.

  6. My dealer wants mine back at 1000 miles for the first oil change. They also check things over and look for any problems. This is what I have done for all my new cars and have never experienced a problem. Based on that and the dealerships instructions to me upon delivery, I will be going in at 1,000 miles for the first oil change. The added bonus is that I do not have to fight the over tightened oil filter. After the first change, I do all my own from there out. I prefer to stick with the Motorcraft synthetic blend and find it costs about the same from my dealer as other brands at the parts stores.

  7. After the first tank of gas on my Edge FWD SEL Plus, (ten miles on the odometer at delivery) with 50/50 city/Highway, I averaged 22.3 MPG. I expect this will be the worst I will see.

    This included a few lead footed, test out the power accelerations. (and one very surprised Pontiac V-6 Fiero Owner)I suspect the MPG will improve over the next 3000 miles, just as my wife's 2006 V-6 SEL Fusion did.

    As for the Edge itself, We love it. It is quiet, comfortable and without a rattle anywhere. The same can be said for our Fusion which now has 14,000 miles on it.

    Great job Ford, you are building a really nice lineup of cars. Keep up the good work.

    For all those that are saying that they are getting really bad gas mileage, I find it really hard to believe. If you want to go fast and drive hard, get a Roush Stage 3 Mustang, then drive the Edge the way it was designed to be driven and it will do just fine in the MPG department.

    If someone is out there sitting on the fence about buying an Edge because of gas concerns, don't be. The new 3.5L runs like a swiss watch.
