  1. wouldnt that scrape the paint?

Hi there. I'm the owner that originally did Yakima rack install (see here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/1890-yakima-q-towers-and-bamr/).

I can tell you that it did not scrape the paint, even after repeated installs/removals. The clips have a soft rubbery coating and the clips exert much of their pressure evenly across the flat surfaces on both the clips and the body surfaces. There have been no issues. Read the thread and you'll find many Q & A.

    Enjoy your Edges, folks !

  2. FOR THOSE WHO CARE:

Checked in at the body shop today,.. they shot one fender as a test panel to see if i liked the color,... it was alittle too shiney and had to much metallic in it. Had them reshoot it with a flatter matte finish and knock the metallic out of it.... rechecked it 3 hrs later when the paint had dried, and we are almost there! I was telling the paint guy that i wished it was just a hair darker and a hair less shiney even still, so he places a paint sample right next to it that he had found, and BAM that was it! So he is reshooting the fender for the 3rd time with that last color that was on the paint sample, and i'll check it out on Monday. I'm pretty sure it is gonna be exactly what i'm looking for, in which case they will then shoot the whole car, and i should have it in my hands by Friday of next week. Well, thats all there is to update you guys on. If the fender looks good on monday, i'll take a pic and post it to give you guys a idea of what's in store.

Great !! Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing it !!

  3.

THANKS SO MUCH for your research, trials and posts. Really appreciate it. Curious if this roof rack could void the warrantee on the vista roof? Anyone know or have experience with this issue?

Thank you too ! Shouldn't be a problem. The vista roof operates the same with or without the rack installed. Of course, if you mount something on the rack that would obstruct the roof's movement and the roof jams, that would be your fault . . . can't see how anyone could claim a warranty issue on that . . .

Happy Summer ! Enjoy it !

    :-)

  4. Bobbyz - in your write up about the Yakima Q Tower set up you use with your Edge you provide 4 measurements. What exactly are they? Where are you measuring from? I have all the parts off of e-bay and am ready to throw it together. Thanks!

These are the foot pad/Q clips/bar position measurements relative to the edges of the roof - front back left right.

The easiest answer is to go to Yakima's website at www.yakima.com and go to the Fit My Car link.

    - Enter your make/year/model information.

    - Select: On top of roof > Naked > Build your own [Next] > Let's Go

    - At the bottom of the Base System screen, select Fit Notes + Measurements. Here you will see the measurement reference points and recommended distances.

These instructions are also included in the boxes for the foot pads and the Q-clips.

Happy motoring and Happy Summer !!

    :-)

  6. I am looking to find a bike carrier for my '07 Edge. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that mounts on the back like a trunk style carrier for a car. I do not want to use the hitch as I am pulling a camper that maxes out my tongue weight. Also, I was thinking about building something that would attach to the roof rack to haul 3 bikes. My roof rack did not come with the crossmembers. I thought I could use wood to go across the top of the roof rack and attach it to the rack with U-bolts. It would not look pretty, but iI think it would work. Any suggestions?

You need to look at what I did:

  7. You are the man or woman(couldnt tell by your user name)!!!!

I just purchased a used 2008 MKX and love it, but was so dissapointed when the ford dealer told me no to the roof rail rack.

I am heading to the local sporting goods store this afternoon to purchase, and need a bike/kayak kit to add to make everything perfect.

    Thanks again!!

    Josh

Josh, you can definitely make it happen with those parts. Good deal man !!

    . . . and yes, I AM a guy . . . :-)

  8. HEEELLLPPPP!

I just got through installing the factory roof rack with cross bars and there is not enough distance between

the crossbars to accomodate my ski bindings when I try to mount them in my Thule ski racks.

Why in the hell would Ford design the racks this way. Ridiculous!! Should I return them and go with aftermarket or what.

I went aftermarket. You have the factory rack, so you will have to work around this or try another route.

    See what I did . . . http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?sho...;hl=bamr+yakima

  9. looks nice that's about what I am going for, the factory crossbars that I have are further back than that though and that has me concerned. probably a foot and a half further back. I was concerned about having to chop the tray, but I found those cheapo racks that the tray is 2 pieces so I can shorten that without cutting.

do you leave the rack on all the time or do you take it off? any significant noise or mpg problems.

with the factory crossbars I have noticed no extra noise at all.. it's a shame it didn't come with them. It's worth it just to stiffen the rails when I have to climb up and wash the roof even if my bike rack doesn't work out.

I put on the rack only when I need it. No significant noise, just enough that you know it's there but nothing that would deter you from having a decent conversation. Any time you had add something to the roof or anywhere that detracts from the natural aerodynamics of a vehicle, there will be some drag. How it effects your mpg and whether it is troublesome for you, only you can make that determination. Because I use the rack intermittently, it is not an issue for me. If you need it, it fits, it does what it needs to do without problem, go for it !

  10. just bought a '10 with Vista roof.

so far no luck finding a ski rack for the roof- because of the way it all opens - out and UP.

    option?

    rear lift gate rack.....or?

higher profile rack? any out there?

traded in the Suburban. It held 6 to 8 pairs on top, no problem.

of course it only got 11 MPG, at best. But drove thru anything.

Ski season comes up soon, any help is appreciated.

You need to read and see what I did . . .
