the smell is back!!! its been 3 months since i had the seal replaced..

i took it to the dealer and they say there is no leak, i can only recreate the smell after driving for 20+ minutes and coming to a stop, how can i show this to the dealer, if its intermittient, and they have some tech with no sense of smell!!

any suggestions?

it smells like rotten eggs, or some foul farts...

yeah i took mine in on friday for the 2nd time but went to a different, BETTER dealer this time...

the repalced the seal and it was still leaking with a new designed one, so they gave me free loaner, while hopefully the new part comes tomorrow, they are hoping ot have it fixed properly this time...

My concern now is if i should try and get an extended warranty i have 10k miles left on my bumper to bumpber and if this keeps happening than what?

got her back today, all seems well again, no smell, its warmer out so i feel like i wont know for sure how the new seal will hold until it gets cold again...this dealer i goto now is probably one of the best ive dealt with so hope all will be well...

i am definitely interested...keep us posted. i am looking to upgrade to a 10 inch... an option for ported vs sealed would be nice too...or even a spot to mount an amp on the box for easy access....

Every now and then my 3gs will skip a little bit but it works it self out, sometimes if it doesn't I just cycle bt on and off and exit out of any addition apps. If u jb ure phone u can free up extra memory and it smooths things out a bit

i installed second skin audio damplifier light in and on my doors, followed by the infinitys, they sounds pretty good, and the cabin is a little quieter.

I do wish the speakers had a little more mid range, its kind of lacking in that department. the Metal tweets are also a little harsh i have the db -3 button on the tweet pushed in to bring it down..

it would be nice to find a better speaker that fit better, but i have not had luck with that..

Well it's only been a few weeks since I had the ptu seal replaced with the new parts, and today while diggin the snow out from my edge I notice some yellowish orangish maybe even pinkish fluid. I'm guessing this is the ptu again. I'm getting a little dissapointed with this crap,

I'm going to try and go to the dealer when the snow clears up. What a pain

from looking at the pictures, i can see the infinitys are a little larger than the polks i was looking at, at least the mounting area is a little bigger, so i wouldnt have an air gap..

Im having a crucial time pulling the trigger thats for sure...too many options for me.

The reason I'm asking is because they also say 5x7 on then.

I bought a pair of Polk mm571 crutchfield advisor said they would fit and they do but there is a tiny air gap on one of the sides. Which I am not approving of.

Off to find a different pair. I only like silk dome tweeters and they seem to be harder to find in a 6x8. I may have to go the component route.

The door panel is different. Yes it's easy to take odd but the fact the speakers mount to a plastic panel bolted to the door, makes me wonder how much bass I really want goin to the doors.

Have any of you used second skin or another dynamat alternative for sound dampening.

I noticed in a few pictures there is a black plastic casing on the door, i have yet to take it off, i am wondering if it is glued on or screwed on?, i havent decided if i should remove it and add some dampening material, or just say screw it...

Im looking at damplifier lite from second skin, its a reasonable price and doesnt add to much weight to the edge.

im planning on doing the doors, and the bare metal where the spare tire is.

any feedback would be much appreciated.

btw i ordered some Polk MM571 speakers, hopefully they are decent enough to keep me happy. I had CDT audio in my last car and i loved them but finding speakers with a shallow 2.5 inch mounting depth is harder than i thought!

i just received mine today, i put them in but the driver side has a weierd curve towards the back of the driverside front window, anyone else with that issue? i wil take a pic tomorrow to compare.

 

I also broke my passanger side trying to put it in, maybe its just too cold out to bend it properly... ive had these on 2 of my cars prior and never had this issue.

 

hopefully weathertech is understanding being a return customer..

They were very understanding, i was on hold for about 15 minutes, but the guy was very nice and said today was my lucky day, and sent me out a replacement free of charge!! Restored my faith in Weathertech 100%!!

hey fellas, i was wondering if the stock 6 cd headubit in an 08 limited has a factory amp near the sub

i want to add an aftermarket amp but am not too fond of running new speaker cable all around the vehicle my old jeep had an amp under the rear seat that fed all the speakers so it was much easier to replace the amp

I went to my dealer yesterday service writer had to take pictures and send to ford windshield so distorted it showed up in picture.ford has no idea why,will replace

I noticed mine does the same thing has anyone else had luck with getting replacement at the dealer?

Yes there is, only drivers side mirror has auto dimming(MKX)

and i ican put that on my 08 edge then? 9T4Z17K707D correct?

do any of you guys know if there is an auto dimming version of the heated ones?

Please see if you can get more info about the new design for us - is it a newly designed PTU, or just a new seal? I'd personally like to know to see if it is the same info that my dealer is giving me. Here's to hoping they finally have a fix after 2 years of the problem(I doubt it though). Kind of funny Ford advised them not to fix it with the current seals - they actually admit they don't have a way to correct the problem right there.

unrelated, the 2.1 sync update is nice, my accelleration seems to be much smoother since they had to update the ECM...

I'm at the dealer now getting an oil change a sync update and the smell diagnosed.

 

They said they could do anything about the windshield, just sucks I'll have to drop 300 or so more, I know it's not their fault bit it's kind of shady advertising, oh well

UPDATE: the ptu is leaking and they have the stuff to fix it, but ford advised them not to replace because they have issued a new fix for it, new ptu design and they should have them in by the 1st of the year.

So I'll deal with the stench until then.

Hi jourabchid. :D No, a "sulfuric eggy smell" is from the catalytic converter and is not uncommon in modern cars. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not, but it would not be due to the PTU leak issue.

 

In addition, it is also possible that the odor is not coming from your car, but from another car in front of you on the road. Try setting the HVAC system to "Recirculate' to help keep outside odors outside. See if that helps.

 

Also, you do not mention whether your Edge is FWD or AWD. Only the AWD Edge's have the leaking PTU problem (and a small percentage of them besides). So if you have a FWD Edge, forget about leaking PTU worries.

 

A leaking PTU is easy to diagnose. You will either have fluid drips on your driveway, or you can have the car put on the lift and check for leaks/running/drips around the PTU. It is a simple check-up.

 

And if you have an AWD Edge and see any PTU leakage, take it back to the Dealer immediately and ask them to repair it. Even with a non-certified vehicle purchase, you still have certain rights concerning the driveability of a vehicle when it is purchased from a Dealer.

 

In addition, if your windshield is scratched, that is due to the previous owner/owners. Since you purchased used, you certainly can not blame Ford for that. Not saying you definitely are, I only mention that due to you stating "I don't know what I go myself into".

 

But again, a sulfuric acid, rotten egg smell is the catalytic converter. Take your car to the Dealer and ask them to see if the engine management system may need a little fine tuning.

im having a hard time telling if i have this issue, i just but an 08 edge sel, with 20k miles on it used from a dealer, not certified.

About 20 minutes into my morning commute on the highway i get this very mild sulferic eggy smell, maybe a little sewagey, or like an over heated electrical motor? its so mild that its hard to tell if its there or if its the newish car smell, im a smoker so my sense of smell isnt the best, but i dont smoke in the car.

Will you see a little smoke from under the hood, or does it only come in the cabin, also is the smell as i described, so many people have there own way of describing smells that i dont know if its comparable?

i got the car on friday, not only is the windshield all scratched up that i could only see at night (i test drove during the day) but now this smell thing....i dont know what i got my self into do i?
