  1. Hello, My wife and I bought our 2008 edge during the winter and didn't know the suprise we were going to get this summer. The air conditioner was terrible barely blew out at all.

The dealership said "oh suuuure we'll check it out for you but if theres nothing wrong we'll charge you $95, that didnt sit well being I have a warranty. Doesn't matter they are legal conartists.

I just got back from the Ford dealership after being ripped off $95 service fee to tell me/change my AIR CONDITIONER FILTER. I am so pist I could spit kick stomp cuss etc.

I can only pray that someone comes along and sees this before getting ripped by the dealership.

How to change this filter I am yet to discover, however I am sure I will find out because I refuse to go back to the dealership.

Just back track through this thread and you can find detailed instructions. It is behind the glove box. There is an easy way to remove the entire glove box without tools. Once you've done this you will see a small retrangular door. Open it and the filter is behind it. If you think you're pissed now wait until you see how much the dealer wants for the replacement. :censored: None of the usual auto parts stores carry the filter or at least they didn't when I changed mine in May. You can find them on the internet cheap. I was able to buy 2 and including the shipping it was still cheaper than buying fromt the dealer.

    Good Luck

  2. In late May, I purchased a 2008 Edge Limited with 46,000 miles. Within two weeks of picking it up, the Check Engine Light came on. I took it to Autozone to read the codes and found it could be a cam-shaft sensor and/or solenoid issue. One physical symptom I observed was that the car would "rock" a bit when stopped at an intersection.

Local Ford dealer took 4.5 days to diagnose, order parts and fix it. They replaced the cam-shaft sensors all around and a couple of other parts (don't have the invoice handy to give specifics). Fortunately, all was covered under the 5/60,000 powertrain warranty. Unfortunately, the cost of the rental car for the week was out of my pocket.

Since then, the CEL came on about a week after the repair. I brought it back to the dealer and after having it for a day, they diagnosed it as a loose connection. (They paid for the rental car this time)

All was fine for about two weeks when the CEL light came on again. Since my commute is rather short, I drove it for a couple of days and the CEL went off on its own. I was NOT feeling the rocking sensation like before.

Fast forward three weeks and the CEL came on again. It stayed on for four days and went off on its own for about two hours when it came back on again.

I called the dealer and will be bringing it back for a third time in three months.

Has anyone else had chronic issues with the cam-shaft sensors, solenoids, valves, etc? I've seen several posts on the boards regarding similar issues. Just looking for outcomes. I love the Edge, but am getting sick of having to worry about when and if the light will come on again. Plus, it's not easy to spend that kind of money on a car and have issues like this. The CarFax report was clean - not that it matters much.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Based on your description I would check the O2 sensor(s). Some cars have more than one. I have had a couple of cars with the problem you describe and that has been the most common result. Next time the CEL is on take it to dealer or somewhere else that can read the code. Don't turn off the engine until the code has been read.

    Good Luck!

  3. The AC issue isnt with the AC itself I dont think. Mine seems like it takes longer than usual to get the cabin cool but its blowing out 48-50 degree air which is more than plenty cold. I think its more to do with the design of the vents. They look nice and large but put your hand up to one and it feels like the air is being blown out of a straw. Im guessing the opening behind the vent is not very large. Its not a huge deal for me. It does get the cabin nice and cool, it just takes a little longer than normal.

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/4901-attention-ford-edge-owners/

The A/C issue is vent design. My 2008 will blow 40 degree air at the Max setting. I tested with a analog and infrared thermometer. I made a small deflector and placed it just below the opening inside the vent on the driver's side and it has helped. It allows the air to concentrate to the top half of the vent with little to no air coming out of the bottom half. If you pull the trim off, you will see the opening on the drivers side is half of the passenger side. I don't know why Ford thought that was going to work :finger:

  4. I didn't get the Vista Roof on my '08 because I opted for the DVD entertainment system. Now with the DVD being installed in the headrests I have options. My only worry is there may be added heat radiating from the ceiling when I have it closed and am trying to cool the vehicle (even with the sun shade closed). I'm guessing it's not insulated as well as a normal roof. What are your experiences with the heat factor?

I'm in central Oklahoma where it is 105 today. No problems with the BAMR radiating heat. One thing I have learned is not to keep my sunglasses in the roof mounted sunglass holder during the summer. Too hot to handle when I took them out. :censored:

  5. Anyone know what the specs are, or if there is a requirement for the oil used in this car? Haven't given it much thought until Big O put a 5w/30w synthetic blend in today when my wife took it in for a change. "Its better for the car" was the reasoning. Has 38k on it. Is that the right weight? Can you go back to regular oil once a synthetic is used? Live in CO, car used mostly on hwy. Thanks for any information. Looked on the Ford Owners site, no specs, and their links to further docs are dead.

Another reason you want to stay with the 5W20 is the winter's in Colorado. If you are in the moutains where temperatures can drop well below zero the lighter oil will make the car easier to start. I found that out after living in Gunnison for 5 years.

  6. Funny thing is I test drove a 2010 today to see if I liked it. Hot as hell outside, cranked up the A/C and ""WHAT"" is this...seems like they forgot a blower speed on the system. Mind you, this was a brand-spanking-new Edge with 20+ miles on it. Tried to readjust the vents, crank the temp down on the auto A/C, but nothing happened. Will it stop me from buying my 2011 Sport? Hell no. But the wife's $20k 2010 Mustang blows harder and colder than the Edge.....hell so does my Raptor.

Personally I think they had some left over Pinto A/C systems that they were dying to get rid of. :)

I couldn't agree with you more. What is it with Ford's HVAC engineer assigned to the Edge that he/she can't figure out most of us are spoiled to good A/C :finger: It will be interesting to see if there is any hope on the 2011 models.

I have put together a diverter that fits into the drivers side air vent that concentrates the air and provides a stronger flow. As soon as my mechanical engineer son refines it I will post some pics.

  7. I'm looking at getting a 2009 Ford Edge with a Vista Roof. It only has 12k miles on it, but I've been reading a number of posts here and in other Ford forums where people complain that their Vista roof breaks down or explodes!

I would assume there'd be a TSB on this - but I checked, and couldn't find one. In fact, very few TSBs on Edge's in general JD Powers gives Edge a very reliable and safe ranking....

If I get this, worth getting extended warranty I assume?

I have a 2008 with a Vista (BAMR) and it has worked fine. There are some posts where people have had trouble. I bought the extended warranty because I have the AWD and there have been so many issues regarding the PTU. So far mine is fine.

There are several posts on the extended warranties to view on this site. Some say save your money and others have got their money back plus some. In the end it is really your decision. The one thing I read the other day is if you are going to purchase the extended warranty get on line. These are negotiable and you can get different pricing from different Ford dealers for the same coverage. Try that and then you have something to work with when you purcahse your 2009.

    Good luck!

  8. I read Strongwind's report on his vacation  and thought it would be good to report mine. I have a 2008 Limited AWD that I purchased in December of last year. It was replacing a CX-9.

We decided to head to the high country of Colorado from Oklahoma :shift: . We drove from an altitude of 1,000 feet to 8,000 feet. I had my son and my wife who has a clothing and shoe fetish. That results in enough luggage for 4 people.

I was pleased with the overall ride and performance. The CX-9 has more room, but I felt more comfortable in the seats of the Edge. Never got tired or had to move around. The ride was quiet and the response of the Edge was good when required to pass. I did notice that as we increased in altitude the Edge did downshift more than the CX-9, but to be fair the CX-9 had a bigger engine.

My mileage going to Colorado was about 21.3 overall with an average speed of 70. Coming back (downhill) I saw it increase to almost 24. Kept the tires inflated at 35 psi. Overall range was about 415 miles to the tank.

We did some exploring in the mountains on some rather steep gravel roads. The AWD did great. Never felt any tire spinning, it just seemed to grab and go. We didn't do any serious 4 wheeling (boulder climbing, river crossing, etc...). The once feature that I liked on the CX-9 was the ability to switch over to the manual trasmission and downshift when you were going down steep roads. With the Edge I would shift into Low and disengage the overdrive and it seemed to do well. Didn't have to ride the brakes as much as I thought I would. One thing that you gotta have in the mountains is the BAMR. We had that puppy open as much as possible.

Overall I was very pleased. :hyper: We plan on keeping this one for a coupld more years until we see how the new 2011 changes work out.

  9. Hello, has anybody this problems too??

Normaly i have fogging tail lights and panel after carwash. Now it´s raining here since weeks. So they are fogging all the time, don´t dry out. Water on the bottom of the light. I dryed them in my place, now i have huge spots on the inside from water, it really look bad.

Do you know if Lincoln changed anything on models 2009 or 2010?

I removed the lights, on the backside the have two holes, but they are sealed with blue stickers. I removed them for better "breathing", but it is just a little help.

Is there a solution? I don´t want to buy new ones if i have the same problem again. They are really expensive!

I drive the car in Europe, so if you bring it outside US - no guarantee :finger:

    Ralf

I convinced a former girl friend that water in tail lights is the break fluid :headspin: She also believed that marshmellows grow on trees and the "C" in the Colorado flag was for Coors. Gotta luv gullible people.

  10. Disconnecting might reset it. Here's something to do that will fix the problem on your trip:

Notice the thing on the dash with an E on the left and F on the right. When the pointer gets close to E stop and fill up.

Seriously though - your trip mileage will probably be a lot higher than what you've been getting recently therefore the DTE calculation will be much more pessimistic, at least for the first 500 miles or so.

    akirby-

Funny you should mention the E & F thing. After my wife ran out of gas for the second time in her car, I had to reminder her that "E" does not stand for Enough. :finger:

  11. I have a 2008 Limited AWD. The other day it was over 100 and I had two small kids in the car. I needed gas so I filled up without shutting off the engine. According to the owners manual that is a sin :redcard: . Now my DTE is goofed up and is giving me inaccurate readings. I realize it may not be totally accurate but it was doing a good job before this. The reset button does not work on this reading and the manual gives you no help. :banghead:

Any ideas on how to get it to recalculate. Will disconnecting the battery reset it? Getting ready to take the family on a road trip and would like to have an reasonible estimate of fuel.

I live in Oklahoma and it has already been over 100 this year. I agree with everyone's response. BAMR is a must have. Even with the poor A/C design for 2008 it doesn't add that much more heat to the vehicle. I did tint the front windows and use a sun shade. I am heading for the mountains of Colorado in two weeks and can't wait to have the BAMR open for the view and mountain air!

  13. Today it was 94 degrees here in Houston and my '08 edge sat in the sun for over and hour. The A/C system had no trouble cooling off the vehicle's interior and it vwas all done in the "Automatic" setting--- I don't know what the problem is with your system, but mine works OK---

What changes were done to the '09 that makes it work better?

I have not been in a 2009 or later Edge but from what I have read in other posts on this site, Ford changed the size and design of the supply lines under the dash to provide more balance from the vents and stronger air flow. You can search this topic on in this forum and see many complaints on the A/C for 2007 & 2008.

I was traveling last week and rented a 2010 Escape in south Texas. I was amazed at the air flow. The air flow in my 2008 Edge on Max air, recirculating, and fan on high was the equivalent of the Escape's fan speed of 2 out of 6. If you cranked the speed up to 6 there was so much air blowing it was like having the window down. That's what I call A/C!

  14. My girlfriend has a 2007 Edge that she got a few weeks back. When the blower motor is turned on high, the sound is about right (it sounds like it is turning fast and moving lots of air) but very little air comes from the vent. On high it is like most cars on low. I thought there might be some blockage, but I would think it would only make one or two vents blow less air, but all of them are equal. Anyone have a problem like this? Could it be a clogged cabin air filter? The air flow is low when the system is set to intake air from the outside or to recirculate and when temp is set to hot or cold. Thanks.

I would change the cabin filter behind the glove box as akirby suggested. You will not find the air filter in most auto parts stores. Your best bet is to buy from a Ford dealer or purchase over the internet. I found a site in this forum where I bought two filters online for what one would have cost from the dealer.

The A/C system on the 2007 & 2008 Edge was a design disaster. From what I have read on other posts, this was corrected for the 2009 on models. There should be decent flow on the passenger side but you will find the flow is not good on the drivers side. You would think that as long as Ford has been putting A/C into cars it would be hard to screw up but they somehow managed. I guess we all have our off days or in their case years.

Other than the A/C she should love her Edge. I have a 2008 and it is a great vehicle.

  15. I have a 2008 Edge AWD Limited that just hit 30k miles. In the Scheduled Maintenance Guide it says,"Vehicles equipped with the TorqShift transmission and the eternally-mounted remote filter element, replace the automatic transmission fluid and the externally -mounted remote filter element (if equipped)." The Transmission/Transaxle Code on my Safety Compliance Label shows code "J" which according to the owners manual is a 6F50 6-Speed Automatic Transmission. Does this mean I don't have the TorqShift transmission?

The Maintenance Guide also says to replace the fuel Filter, but once again, according to the owners manual it says that I have a life-time fuel filter which does not need to be replaced. True?

  16. Happy with my 2008 Limited AWD. Bought it just before a record setting snow fall in December and it handled great. Better than my old Explorer with 4WD. My only complaint is the flow of the A/C towards the driver. I understand they fixed it in the 2009 on up models.

  17. yes, same here on my 2007.. I think '09-up corrected this.

    DJ-

Thanks for the reply. Living in Florida you know about heat and humidity. Overall how does the Edge do for cooling? Do you have any recommendations or do anything to help with the air flow on the driver's side?

  18. I've seen many topics on the A/C air flow but I can't seem to find what my question is. I have a 2008 Limited AWD. I seem to have decent air flow from all vents except the left center vent. Living in Oklahoma we tend to get in the 100's during the summer with high humidity. So good cool air flow is a necessity. Has anyone else experienced the reduced air flow on just the one vent?

  19. I recently purchased a used 2008 AWD Limited Edge with 25k on it. When I asked about the warranty the saleman told me it might be outside of the factory warranty even though it doesn't have 36k miles on it due to when it was manufactured. Is there a way to determine when a vehicle's born on date is to see if it is within the three year period?

  20. I bought a 2008 Edge Limited AWD just two days before a record setting winter storm dropped 13" of snow on Oklahoma. We are a state that is more use to tornados than snow so the state doesn't invest in much snow removal equipment. I was very impressed with the handling and traction. I currently have the 20" Pirelli all season tires that came on it. Then yesterday we got over an inch of ice and now we have 3" of snow on top of the ice. This thing is still driving solid! I have 4WD SUV's in the past that didn't handle as well as the Edge.

  21. After changing our oil I figured why not install a drain valve to make oil changes simpler [as if its not already simple as it is  ] So I came across a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve [i believe the F-106 fits our Edge]

Does anyone have any inout on the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve.

I was going to create one from the supplies from our local hardware store, but not sure if the Fumoto would be better or not :banghead:

I have used them before in other cars. They work great. The only down side is the oil will drain slower due to the smaller opening. The upside is you don't have to worry about stripping out your oil plug.
