  1. I have a chronic back problem and needed a better riding vehicle than my 05 Escape. I had researched for several months and test drove the Murano, Mazda CX9 and the Edge. The result? The Murano had no chance, as noisy inside as my Escape and too stiff a ride. The CX9 was great, plenty of power, comfortable for my back and quiet, but just a little on the stiff side. Then I drove the Edge and it was a no brainer! The ride was near perfect for me, smooth and controlled and really quiet inside! In fact the only quibble I have is that the seat cushions are a tad short for my legs, but not a deal breaker.

Picked it up on June 29 and already have 1500 miles on it! :happy feet:

  2. You are probably right - I'm sure after I became use to it I would never want to do without.

OnStar - emergencies and the "fun-toy" factor. I think it would be pretty cool when traveling to punch a button and have them download directions to a new restaurant, etc. I know I could enter the address of the same restaurant and have it displayed on the Nav but....

I wouldn't have to Nav it or call and ask directions.

I've got the nav and I have to say that even if you never use it for directions or a route its really valuable as a map. It's already helped me find my way after the person I was following lost me at a light in a location I was unfamiliar with.

  3. My Edge is probably the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever owned and is definitely the most luxurious. Mine is loaded with everything but the DVD rear entertainment system. I paid cash for mine, so I can't help with the lease, but it was $36k out the door.

The bamr is fantastic, and when closed is perfectly quiet. The only thing that might annoy some people is the sound it makes during a heavy rain. It makes sort of a metallic tapping sound. Interestingly the metallic bit goes away when you open the shade and its just rain. It's apparently some sort of echo in the space created by the shade. I don't mind it, but some may.

  4. Hi, I am new to this forum. First post.

I test drove the Edge a few months ago for the $50 Target gift card (just got it in the mail today).

At the time, I had too many months left on my '04 Pacifica lease.

Well, time is flying by and my lease is up at the end of Sept.

In my area (Southern CT), the pickings of '07 Edge's are getting slim.

Will dealers still be getting inventory for the next few weeks or am I stuck with what they have?

Also, if I order one now would it be an '07 or '08 and would it be ready by the end of Sept?

There are some good incentives on the '07 now but I like some of the new features of the '08.

Who knew buying (or in my case leasing) a car would be such a dilemma.

Any help from the group is appreciated.

    Ellen in Ct.

I live in southwestern CT and my dealer was able to search other Ford dealers from Maine to Pennsylvania for the model I wanted. It turned out that they had one coming in that fit my needs so I took that one. But if you know what you want your dealer should be able to see if any other dealer in the area has one. I don't know where in CT you live but I bought mine from Stamford Motors 2 weeks ago. They are a reputable dealership with a good service department.

  5. Hear, hear!

I have the Audiophile Edge. A 6 cd-mp3-changer with an mp3 input AND Sirius radio pumped thru 190 watt amp to 8 speakers and a nice 8 inch bass?!? What else would you need? After adjusting the Bass and Treble, it sounds just as good as the custom stereo in my Jeep that I traded in.

    1 cd = 700 mb

    700 mb * 6 cds = 4200 mb

    Average mp3 song = 5 mb

    4200 / 5 = 840 songs

That's one h*** of a playlist for a road trip.

    I agree as well.

I was supposed to have the Audiophile with the factory nav, but the dealer made a mistake. What he apparently didn't know was that if the dealer installed the nav, you only get the Audiophile headend and not the speakers, amp or sub. :banghead:

I'm a little dissappointed, but at least the business end is correct. I'll replace the door speakers and that will satisfy me, since I want the two way speakers in the doors even if I don't get the sub!

  6. :hysterical: Since it is HER car, I would then become the 'significant-other-stand-behind.' She got used to the reverse sensing on her Expy and while I brought home the right color, I missed on one option that she now considers a must (she doesn't like going to car dealers).

I'd really like a factory system, but it looks like I may have to go with one of these after market products if it contiues to be an issue.

My dealer told me before I bought mine that they can install reverse sensing if the vehicle didn't already have it and the only difference between their system and the factory system would be that the sensors in the bumper are black, not body colored. He never specified whether the system was in fact the factory version or not, and I never asked, because the Edge I bought already had it.

  7. well, traded our 02 Suburban for an 07 Edge day before yesterday. so far, we just love it. I don't miss the BIG machine when I park for sure! I am sure I will love the gas mileage comparison as well! My 6'1" son says that there is more room in the back seat than there was in the suburban.....go figure. He enjoyed driving the Edge yesterday too and decided it was 'pretty cool' . I had several people gawking trying to figure out what kind of car it is.......and already many questions from people about it.

I am happy to have found this forum to keep updated on any new things coming out etc.

I do have a question........is there anyplace I could have seen the cargo organizer thing? I saw one on the edge website.....is it the same as what would have come from the factory? and is there any kind of cargo cover you can add? that I will miss on trips..........I guess covering things with a blanket on a trip would work.......but rather have a cover of some type.

Happy :hyper: to be an Edgie person!

    Kay

Congrats on your new Edge and welcome!

As to your questions, I'm assuming that you visited the accessories website. The cargo management system that you get from the factory is an under the cargo floor arrangement that uses the space around the spare. The one on the accessories website is a mat with velcro corner pieces to keep things from sliding. So they are not the same.

There is now a cargo cover offered, it attaches to all three headrests on one end and the other end I'm not sure about. There may be aftermarket alternatives, but I don't know of them. Myself, I bought two Neatsheets to both protect the floor and cover anything I carry. You can get them at Target, Walmart, etc, for around $6 each.

  8. Hey all.

SO... we went to test drive an Edge, thinking we would wait and order a 2008. After all was said and done, we just took the one off the showroom floor cuz of the deal they offered.

Dune colored, two tone interior w/ 2 tone matching leather, special made in town. SEL with audiophile system. We LOVE this vehicle.

OH, and it's my b-day today, so the wife said Happy B-day, here's a car.

Happy Birthday and congrats on the nice ride!

  9. I have always played my own Cd's with no problems, But I write the title with a sharpie as I have had problems with paper lables in other cd players and computers.

Agreed, I have also played many a homemade cd in various cars without trouble. I always used a sharpie as well.

However, I burn fewer cds since I got my mp3 player. Now if I can just get the dealer to fix the aux jack I'll be fine. (It only plays through the passenger side speakers. Yes, I've already checked the balance!)

  10. Thats what they tell you about ABS. Try steering on a sheet of ice while using constant breaking pressure and you will end up in a ditch. Till some redneck like me comes along to pull you out. :yup: Pump them...not fast...and steer in between pumps to keep you headed in the right direction. The only time ABS kinda works on slick roads is if you are stopping while driving in a straight line. If you have to stop quick going around a turn and use constant pressure either you will not be able to stop quick enough or if too much pressure your rear end may start to come around. It depends how slick the roads are. Don't be afraid to use the shoulder or median to avoid an accident. Done it a few times myself. Just don't hit something worse like a telephone poll, tree, etc. I was driving a 90 300zx, which had 4 wheel ABS, on 85 one night while it was snowing lightly. Could still see the lines on the road so I didn't worry. I tried lite break pressure to check how slick it was and all of a sudden the car turned 90 degrees and I was sliding down the interstate sideways at 60 mph. Took three lanes, about a half mile of road and lil bit of grass median to get her strait again. Think my rear bumper was leading the way a couple times. Luckily... there were no cars around me. Regained control using the gas pedal only. I didn't go over 35 mph the rest of the trip. lol That happed because I was driving too fast, had tires with nonexistent snow traction and used constant break pressure for too long. Didn't own that car long after that. Traded it for a 94 blazer which I rolled on an icy country road about a year later. Learning can be painfull sometimes. Just remember to slow down, have extra stopping room in front and behind you and have good tires for the conditions.

That's all good advice in a vehicle without stability control, however, if you're going around a corner and begin to lose control the stability control is going to kick in and work its voodoo. I'm not saying its gonna save your ass, but its certainly going to add another variable to the equation, such as reducing engine power when you don't expect. What I'm saying I guess is that it imposes a whole new set of rules for slippery surfaces that you will have to learn to deal with. Or maybe it will save your ass and you can sit back and relax!

Of course my thoughts are completely hypothetical since I haven't gotten the stability control to activate in my Edge yet! :shades:

  11. Am I missing something or does the Edge not come with tie-downs in the cargo area? If so, that would be a major oversight (IMHO) on Ford's part. Any objects placed back there could come flying towards the front in a hard braking situation. There doesn't even appear to be any kind of hook for a cargo net. Someone please tell me I'm wrong.

You are not wrong, there are no hooks. For me I can't say I miss them as I've never used them in an vehicle, but I keep any small potential projectiles in a bin on the floor cargo area hard against the rear seat back. It isn't secured, but it is very stable and doesn't slide around.

  12. Alternator whine? Its caused by a difference in electrical potential between two points. You need to isolate your power to your head unit from the engine. Wait....is this a factory system with no modification? If so, is the whine only coming from one speaker?

    Edit: This may help...

    Noise Problem Troubleshooting: Whining noise

    reh

This is a factory system, but the whine is most noticeable when the unit is off and as far as I can tell it doesn't eminate from a speaker at all. I had my ear against the rear seat driver's side speaker and it was no louder than when sitting in that seat. Although, its gotta be coming from somewhere, so maybe I just can't isolate it.

Thanks for the Crutchfield article, I'll check out some of the things.

  13. After 14 years of faithful service, my wifes Honda Civic croaked two weeks ago. We bought a new Edge yesterday off the lot (Dune, tan interior). Because of a mix up with another dealership that had the Edge we wanted, when we came back in the evening to pick up the new car, they offered us the one we test drove at the same exact price. The only difference in the cars was the Panaramic Moon Roof. We did not want that, but they threw it in for no additional cost. Score!

Congrats on the new Edge and on scoring the roof for free!

  14. I've noticed it as well. It is usually when the car is accelerating. I thought it might've been some engine noise through the stereo myself.

It really wasn't enough to upset me. If you can't notice it, what's the big deal anyways? :shift:

It wasn't a big deal to me either until a passenger mentioned it, and then I heard it all the time. Of course once the stereo is turned up, no more whine!

  15. I have the same charcoal interior, and I didn't notice bad reflections any more than I've noticed reflections from the top of the dash in any other car. I guess I do notice the top of the center stack now that I've read this thread, but the reflection is nothing that bothers me.

I'm of your opinion entirely, the reflection with the charcoal interior is minor. What bothers me more is the reflection of the outboard vent trim in the side window when I'm trying to use the side mirror.

  16. nice very nice .........! congrats. How long take from the day the you place tha order? I order one 5 weeks a go?

Lucked out, dealer had one ordered that had everything I wanted except nav, so I bought it and they installed factory nav. From test drive to pickup, 1 week! :happy feet:

  17. One touch completely open.

The "first" touch will close the vista roof 3/4 of the way.

The "second" touch will close the vista roof the rest of the way.

But you must hold the button on the second touch. Also the sunshade is manual to open and close, unless you "one touch" open the roof itself, then the shade opens with it.

  18. Yes, I thought it was stereo related as well, but I don't have the sub yet, and the door speaker is not the source as far as I can tell.

I asked the dealer to check it out for me and explained as clearly as I could what the sound was like, so hopefully it won't be a "couldn't reproduce customer complaint"! Both the service assistant and the business manager of the dealership are personal friends of mine, so they'll follow through on it. If necessary I'll sit them in the back seat until they hear it themselves!

Looks like I'm going to have to tie them up in the back seat! They said they can't hear anything! :banghead:

    So much for friendship!

  19. Alright, just got back from Ford, and they ordered me a new tail light and a new rim. I was so happy when they said they would order the rim (I thought they might try touching it up) that I didn't even tell them about the paint. I decided I can live with the paint.

    I am satisfied.

Congratulations! I love good customer service!

  20. I noted it as well, it usually happens when the car is first started, and seems to die off (or i get used to it) after a bit of driving. I think it might be an electrical noise possibly around the sub in the trunk area. It can be annoying, but i just turn up the stereo and cant hear it anymore. It happens with the radio on or off though. Let us know what you find. It is intermittent, some days i dont hear anything even with the radio off.

Yes, I thought it was stereo related as well, but I don't have the sub yet, and the door speaker is not the source as far as I can tell.

  21. One of my rear seat passengers heard a high pitch sound which I had never heard. Now of course, I can't stop listening to it! It almost sounds like a ringing in the ears or a whistling and it has no apparent cause. It is most noticeable in the rear driver's side seat. I've ruled out the door speaker and it doesn't change when the engine is revved so I'm at a loss as to the cause.

Has anyone else heard this noise? If so, do you have a clue about what causes it?

I'm bringing it in tomorrow anyway to get my nav and sat radio installed, so I'll ask the dealer to check it out as well.

    Thanks in advance.

  22. Just curious what others in here think....

Our dealer told us when we bought our AWD Edge that it's best not to use the AWD in snow/slush. As a relative newbee on all things AWD, I've no idea if this is true or not. I had always assumed that AWD was desirable in those conditions, and that it improves traction where a FWD might fail.

Does anyone in here have experience in these conditions with an AWD model?

    2 things:

First, you are absolutely correct in your assumption, the dealer has his head up his butt. The AWD is designed for slippery conditions for pete's sake! :redcard:

Second, ask that dealer, how exactly you're not supposed to use something that is automatically engaged when needed! :banghead:
